  • $^{99m}Tc$-DMSA planar scan that can analyze the functions of kidney quantitatively provides less information on a lesion than tomography scanning. Therefore, this study applied a high sensitivity all-purpose collimator that is sensitive to photonic signals to $^{99m}Tc$-DMSA and carried out a clinical scan with single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). And diagnostic accuracy and time requirement of were analyzed to know the clinical usefulness of the applied scanning method. 10 subjects were intravenously injected with radiopharmaceutical product (1.0-1.2 MBq/kg) and scanned by a gamma camera with planar scanner (high resolution (HR)-mode, $256{\times}256$, 50 kcts/view, 4 image) and SPECT (HR / high sensitive (HS)-mode, $128{\times}128$, step and shoot, $180^{\circ}$, variable sec/angle, total 64 frame, OSEM reconstruction), respectively. The collected data was compared with an analysis program. The results showed that HS-mode SPECT detected total counts 1.8-5.6 times more than planar scan. Relative renal function evaluated based on the counts was not significantly different by two scanning methods (p=0.96) and it turned out that test time was shortened by 39% when HS-mode SPECT was used. Therefore, SPECT using HR, HS-mode collimator could analyze renal function more quantitatively than using planar scan and the former could diagnose the location information of a lesion more accurately than the latter as well as shortened test time requirement, which demonstrated the clinical usefulness of $^{99m}Tc$-DMSA renal SPECT using high sensitivity all purpose collimator.

  • This paper describes a monocular PSD-based motion capture sensor to employ with commercial video game systems such as Microsoft's XBOX and Sony's Playstation II. The system includes a PSD(Position Sensitive Detector) and active infrared (IR) LED markers that are placed on the object to be tracked. The micro-controller calculates the 3D position of the markers using only the measured intensity and the 2D position on the PSD. A series of experiments were performed to evaluate the performance of our prototype system. From the experimental results we see that the proposed system has the advantages of the compact size, the low cost, the easy installation, and the high frame rates to be suitable for high speed motion tracking in games.

  • High level vibrationional environments induced while launching of spacecraft can damage sensitive equipment or payloads, unless the equipment is properly designed. This is a critical issue for KOMPSAT-2 which will carry a high resolution electro-optic camera and a sophisticated attitude and orbit control system. Thus careful consideration on the launch environment is required in the design stage of spacecraft. This requires generation of vibration specification for each component. This paper describes the generation process of vibrational specification for KOMPAT-2, which is designed and tested by Korean engineers.

  • The pressure sensitive paint (PSP) has recently received a considerable attention in the fields of aerodynamics and fluid mechanics as a new revolutionary optical technique to measure pressure fields on a body surface. In this study, the feasibility and effectiveness of the PSP pressure field measurement technique have been investigated experimentally. Seven different PSP formulations including two porphyrins(PtOEP and PtTFPP) and four polymers(Polystyrene, cellulous acetate butyrate, GP-197 and Silicon-708) were tested to check the performance and characteristics of each combination. The static calibration of each PSP formulation was carried out in a constant-pressure chamber. The PSP technique was applied to an oblique impinging jet flow to measure variation of pressure field on the impinging plate at on oblique jet angle of ${\theta}=60^{\circ}$. Pressure field images were captured by an 12bit intensified CCD(ICCD, $1K{\times}1K$)camera. As a result, the dynamic response of PSP depends on the oxygen permeability of polymer and the photochemical interaction between luminophore and polymer as well as the reaction of luminophore itself. The reaction of luminophore was changed by employing different polymers. In conclusion, Among 7 PSP formulation tested, the combination of PtTFPP and cellulous acetate butyrate show the best performance. In addition, the detail pressure field of an oblique high-speed impinging jet was measured effectively using the PSP technique.

  • This study develops a new device system for measuring a slope of object with non-adhesive, non-contact and non-face-to-face, namely Inclinometer Slope Laser Measuring (ISLM), that is applicable in the field. This system includes cradle, laser, camera, and computer and the filming and is performed after laser projection at programmed intervals. After measuring the amount of displacement converted to numerical values, these values can then be transferred to the office using the selected data transmission method. The obtained results from the test carried out to verify the reliability of the ISLM system indicated that the ISLM system can measure with accurately level of 0.1mm/Pixel at 1m distance and when increasing the camera resolution, the precision might increase proportionally. Therefore, the proposed measure system may widely apply on-site for various constructions, especially, in the case of object with very high surface temperature where exhibits difficulty to directly measure the adjacent structures. However, due to the sensitive reaction to the illuminance, this method can be applied with caution at times of large changes in illuminance, such as at dawn and at dusk.

  • ShadowCam is a National Aeronautics and Space Administration Advanced Exploration Systems funded instrument hosted onboard the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) satellite. By collecting high-resolution images of permanently shadowed regions (PSRs), ShadowCam will provide critical information about the distribution and accessibility of water ice and other volatiles at spatial scales (1.7 m/pixel) required to mitigate risks and maximize the results of future exploration activities. The PSRs never see direct sunlight and are illuminated only by light reflected from nearby topographic highs. Since secondary illumination is very dim, ShadowCam was designed to be over 200 times more sensitive than previous imagers like the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera Narrow Angle Camera (LROC NAC). ShadowCam images thus allow for unprecedented views into the shadows, but saturate while imaging sunlit terrain.

  • ShadowCam is a high-sensitivity, high-resolution imager provided by NASA for the Danuri (KPLO) lunar mission. ShadowCam calibration shows that it is well suited for its purpose, to image permanently shadowed regions (PSRs) that occur near the lunar poles. It is 205 times as sensitive as the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter Camera (LROC) Narrow Angle Camera (NAC). The signal to noise ratio (SNR) is greater than 100 over a large part of the dynamic range, and the top of the dynamic range is high enough to accommodate most brighter PSR pixels. The optical performance is good enough to take full advantage of the 1.7 meter/pixel image scale, and calibrated images have uniform response. We describe some instrument artifacts that are amenable to future corrections, making it possible to improve performance further. Stray light control is very challenging for this mission. In many cases, ShadowCam can image shadowed areas with directly illuminated terrain in or near the field of view (FOV). We include thorough qualitative descriptions of circumstances under which lunar brightness levels far higher than the top of the dynamic range cause detector or stray light artifacts and the size and extent of the artifact signal under those circumstances.

  • We developed a 2-D imaging system to detect ultra weak biophoton by using a high sensitive fast CCD camera. We installed an illumination apparatus to generate delayed luminescence from plant leaves. Shutters at the illumination system and detector were synchronized to each other. The lens system of the CCD camera was newly designed to accommodate the specific requirements to enhance the collection efficiency for biophoton. Based on the lens simulation, commercial lenses were chose for the lens system. All the equipment was installed in a multi-purpose dark box and the delayed luminescence of Euonymus japonica was successfully acquired.

  • This paper introduces a new vision technique for extracting roof edges of polyhedra having specularly reflecting surfaces. There have been many previous works on object recognition using edge information. But they can not be applied to specular objects since it is hard to acquire reliable camera images of specular objects. If there is a method which can extract the edges of specular objects, it is possible to apply edge-based recognition algorithms to specular objects. To acquire the reliable edge images of specular objects, scanned double pass retroreflection method is proposed, whose main physical characteristic is curvature-sensitive. This utility of the physical characteristic is motivated by the idea that roof edges can be characterized as local surfaces of high curvature. In this paper, the optical characteristics of double pass retroreflection are discussed and a series of simulation studies are performed to verify and analyze the sensor characteristics. The results from a series of simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
