  • A transparent film was fabricated based on bacterial cellulose (BC), BC has excellent physical strength and stability at high temperature and it is an environmental friendly flexible material. In order to improve the conductivity, silver nanowire (AgNW) and/or graphene were introduced to the BC membrane. The aspect ratio of the AgNW synthesized in this study was 214, with a length of $15{\mu}m$ and width of 70 nm. The higher aspect ratio improved the conductivity by reducing the contact resistance. The thermal and electrical properties of 7 types of films prepared were investigated. Each film was fabricated with rectangular shape ($2mm{\times}2mm{\times}50{\mu}m$). The films were scored with a net shape by a knife, and filled with AgNW and graphene to bestow conductivity. The film filled with AgNW showed favorable electrical characteristics with a thickness of $350{\mu}m$, electron concentration of $1.53{\times}10^{19}$, electron mobility of $6.63{\times}10^5$, and resistivity of 0.28. The film filled with graphene had a thickness of $360{\mu}m$, electron concentration of $7.74{\times}10^{17}$, electron mobility of 0.17, and resistivity of 4.78. The transmittances at 550 nm were 98.1% and 80.9%, respectively. All the films were able to light LEDs bulbs although their brightness differed. A thermal stability test of the BC and PET films at $150{\pm}5^{\circ}C$ showed that the BC film was more stable, whereas the PET film was quickly banded. From these results, it was confirmed that there it is possible to fabricate new transparent conductivity films based on BC.

  • ERT imaging, especially 3-D method, is a very powerful means to obtain a very high resolution image of the subsurface for geotechnical or hydrogeological problems. In this paper, we introduce two examples of successful case histories, where the imaging targets were three-dimensional. First example is the case of 3-D fracture imaging for hydrogeologic application. In this example, the borehole deviation was a critical problem in the ERT imaging and we could obtain real 3-D attitude of fracture system by including the borehole deviation in the inversion. In the second case, we did field experiment to image the empty tunnel with the size of $2m{\times}2m$ and the target was very clearly imaged in 3-D space. In these examples, we could show that 3-D ERT imaging is a very powerful tool for the 3-D subsurface imaging and the method can provide enhanced imaging capabilities especially for the 3-D targets such as fractures and cavities or tunnel.

  • Chemical functionalization of carbon nanomaterials (CNMs) is generally carried out for increasing interfacial adhesion between filler and polymer matrix for CNM-polymer nanocomposites. The chemically functionalized CNTs can produce strong interfacial bonds with many polymers, allowing CNT based nanocomposites to possess high mechanical and functional properties. Hence, increased surface adhesion can be measured indirectly by observing increased mechanical properties. However, there is a more direct way to observe interfacial bonds between polymer and CNM by measuring piezoresistivity behavior so that we can imagine the behavior of CNM particles in polymer matrix under deflection. Fuctionalization of MWCNT and rGO was carried out by oxidization reaction of MWCNT and rGO with $H_2SO_4/HNO_3$ solution. Electrical resistivities of MWCNT-PMMA and rGO-PMMA composites were decreased after functionalization because of the destructive fuctionalization process. Meanwhile, piezoresistivities of functionalized CNM-PMMA composites showed more sensitive behavior under the same deflection as compared to pristine CNM-PMMA composites. Therefore, mobility of CNM in polymer matrix was found to be improved with chemical functionalization.

  • We performed a magnetotelluric (MT) survey to delineate the geological structures below the depth of 20 km in the Gyeongju area where an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 occurred in September 2016. The measured MT data were severely distorted by electrical noise caused by subways, power lines, factories, houses, and farmlands, and by vehicle noise from passing trains and large trucks. Using machine-learning methods, we classified the MT time series data obtained near the railway and highway into two groups according to the inclusion of traffic noise. We applied three schemes, stochastic gradient descent, support vector machine, and random forest, to the time series data for the highspeed train noise. We formulated three datasets, Hx, Hy, and Hx & Hy, for the time series data of the large truck noise and applied the random forest method to each dataset. To evaluate the effect of removing the traffic noise, we compared the time series data, amplitude spectra, and apparent resistivity curves before and after removing the traffic noise from the time series data. We also examined the frequency range affected by traffic noise and whether artifact noise occurred during the traffic noise removal process as a result of the residual difference.

  • The n-type GaN semiconductor has excellent properties as a photoelectrode, but it has disadvantage that its reliability is deteriorated due to the photocorrosion because the oxygen reaction occurs on the surface. For this reason, there are fundamental attempts to avoid photocorrosion reaction of GaN surfaces by using the p-type GaN as a photoelectrode where hydrogen generation reaction occurs on the surface. However, p-type GaN has a problem of low efficiency because of its high resistivity and low hole mobility. In this study, we try to improve the photocurrent efficiency by activation process for the p-type GaN. The p-type GaN was annealed for 1 min. at $500^{\circ}C$ in $N_2$ atmosphere. Hall effect measurement system was used for the electrical properties and potentiostat (PARSTAT4000) was used to measure the photoelectrochemical (PEC) characteristics. Consequently, the photocurrent density was improved more than 1.5 times by improving the activation process for the p-type GaN. Also, its reliability was maintained for 3 hours.

  • For the development of gas hydrate as new future energy resources, the drilling was carried out at the five locations where have high potential as gas hydrate bearing sediments in Ulleung basin, offshore Korea in 2007. Well log data were obtained from all wells and core data were procured from 3 wells, UBGH1-04, UBGH1-09 and UBGH1-10. In this study, user-friendly software, "KMU GH Logs 2010", is developed and this software is based on the estimation methods developed in previous study for gas hydrate bearing sediments and the properties estimated from UBGH1-04, UBGH1-09 and UBGH1-10. Petrophysical properties in un-cored wells, UBGH1-01 and UBGH1-14, are also estimated by using well log data. Porosity is estimated by density log and gas hydrate saturation is calculated by sonic log and resistivity log. Sedimentary facies are estimated by applying the linear discriminant analysis using both well log and sedimentary facies data from core analysis. It is confirmed that DITM facies and MSS facies appeared signs of gas hydrate disassociation are able to be distinguished by the method.

  • We integrated and correlated datasets from surface and subsurface geophysics, drilling cores, and engineering geology to identify geological interfaces and characterize the joints and fracture zones within the rock mass. The regional geometry of a geologically weak zone was investigated via a fence projection of electrical resistivity data and a borehole image-processing system. Subsurface discontinuities and intensive fracture zones within the rock mass are delineated by cross-hole seismic tomography and analyses of dip directions in rose diagrams. The dynamic elastic modulus is studied in terms of the P-wave velocity and Poisson's ratio. Subsurface discontinuities, which are conventionally identified using the N value and from core samples, can now be identified from anomalous reflection coefficients (i.e., acoustic impedance contrast) calculated using a pair of well logs, comprising seismic velocity from suspension-PS logging and density from logging. Intensive fracture zones identified in the synthetic seismogram are matched to core loss zones in the drilling core data and to a high concentration of joints in the borehole imaging system. The upper boundaries of fracture zones are correlated to strongly negative amplitude in the synthetic trace, which is constructed by convolution of the optimal Ricker wavelet with a reflection coefficient. The standard deviations of dynamic elastic moduli are higher for fracture zones than for acompact rock mass, due to the wide range of velocities resulting from the large numbers of joints and fractures within the zone.

  • Lithium doped zinc oxide(ZnO:Li) films are prepared by rf magnetron sputtering on Corning 7059 glass substrate using specifically designed ZnO targets containing different amount of $Li_2CO_3$ powder as the Li doping source. The structural properties of the Li doped ZnO films are investigated by XRD, SEM and AFM. The electrical properties of the ZnO:Li films are measured for various deposition conditions, such as the substrate temperature, $O_2$/Ar gas ratio and rf power. The effects of the $Li_2CO_3$ content in target and the deposition conditions on the structural and electrical properties were studied. When ZnO:Li films were sputtered at the substrate temperature of $200^{\circ}C$, $O_2$/Ar gas ratio of 100% and rf power of 100W with a target containing less than 1wt% content of $Li_2CO_3$, showed good surface morphology, strong c-axis orientation and high resistivity of more than $10^8{\Omega}cm$.

  • Transparent conducting oxide (TCO) films are widely used for optoelectronic applications. Among TCO materials, zinc oxide (ZnO) has been studied extensively for its high optical transmission and electrical conduction. In this study, the effects of $O_2$ plasma pretreatment on the properties of Ga-doped ZnO films (GZO) on polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) substrate were studied. The $O_2$ plasma pretreatment process was used instead of conventional oxide buffer layers. The $O_2$ plasma treatment process has several merits compared with the oxide buffer layer treatment, especially on a mass production scale. In this process, an additional sputtering system for oxide composition is not needed and the plasma treatment process is easily adopted as an in-line process. GZO films were fabricated by RF magnetron sputtering process. To improve surface energy and adhesion between the PEN substrate and the GZO film, the $O_2$ plasma pre-treatment process was used prior to GZO sputtering. As the RF power and the treatment time increased, the contact angle decreased and the RMS surface roughness increased significantly. It is believed that the surface energy and adhesive force of the polymer surfaces increased with the $O_2$ plasma treatment and that the crystallinity and grain size of the GZO films increased. When the RF power was 100W and the treatment time was 120 sec in the $O_2$ plasma pretreatment process, the resistivity of the GZO films on the PEN substrate was $1.05\;{\times}\;10^{-3}{\Omega}-cm$, which is an appropriate range for most optoelectronic applications.

  • In this paper, we discussed the fabrication and characterization of bulk type CdZnTe detector for pocket surveymeter. The resistivity of CdZnTe single crystal grown by the High Pressure Bridgman method is in the mid of $10^9$ ohm-cm. The detector structure is Au/CdZnTe/Au and gold electrode is formed by electroless deposition method. Resolutions of 4.8keV and 2.2keV were observed at 22.2keV line of $^{109}Cd$ and 59.6keV line of $^{241}Am$ at room temperature, respectively. We also constructed the small size pocket surveymeter using home made CdZnTe detector. It shows the good linearity over a range from 1mR/hr to 10R/hr with deviation less than 5%. The sensitivity of the surveymeter developed is $2.2{\times}10^3 cps/Rad\;hr^{-1}$ for the 662keV of $^{l37}Cs\;{\gamma}-ray$.
