An Nd:YAG slab structure was designed for a high-power zigzag slab laser amplifier based on computational simulation of the wavefront distortion. For the simulation, the temperature distribution in the slab was calculated at first by thermal analysis. Then, the optical path length (OPL) was obtained by a ray tracing method for the corresponding refractive index variation inside the slab. After that, the OPL distribution of the double-pass amplified beam was calculated by summing the results obtained for the first and second passes. The amount of wavefront distortion was finally obtained as the peak-to-valley value of the OPL distribution. As a result of this study, the length and position of the gain medium were optimized by minimizing the transverse wavefront distortion. Under the optimized conditions, the transverse wavefront distortion of the double-pass amplified beam was less than $0.2{\mu}m$ for pump power of 14 kW.
This study is essential for advancing our knowledge about the interaction between long-range high-power lasers and energetic materials, with a particular emphasis on understanding the response of a 155-mm shell under various surface irradiations, taking into account external factors such as atmospheric disturbances. The analysis addresses known limitations in understanding the use of non-realistic targets and the negligence of ambient conditions. The model employs the three-dimensional level-set method, computer-aided design (CAD)-based target design, and a message-passing interface (MPI) parallelization scheme that enables rapid calculations of the complex chemical reactions of the irradiated high explosives. Important outcomes from interaction modeling include the accurate prediction of the initiation time of ignition, transient pressure, and temperature responses with the location of the initial hot spot within the shell, and the relative magnitude of noise with and without the presence of physical ambient disturbances. The initiation time of combustion was increased by approximately a factor of two with atmospheric disturbance considered, while slower heating of the target resulted in an average temperature rise of approximately 650 K and average pressure increase of approximately 1 GPa compared to the no ambient disturbance condition. The results provide an understanding of the interaction between the high-power laser and energetic target at a long distance in an atmospheric condition.
In this study, effect of laser power on hardness and microstructure of SKD61 Hot Die steel of which surface was melted and hardened with Yb:YAG disk laser was investigated. Beam speed was fixed at 70 mm/sec and distance between them was 0.8 mm about Laser surface melting. The only thing that was changed laser power. Laser powers were 2.0, 2.4 and 2.8 kW. No defect was found under all conditions. As the laser power increased, the penetration depth were deepened and the bead width was also widened. There was no hardness deviation of fusion zone at same laser power and it was higher than that of heat affected zone. In addition, the more laser power increased, the more hardness in fusion zone decreased. Fusion zone was macroscopically dendrite structure. However, core matric in dendrite was lath martensite of 100 nm size. There were $M_{23}C_6$ of 500 nm and the VC and $Mo_2C$ of a nano meters on boundary of dendrite.
A new technique for control of size and shape of flame-made particles is Introduced. The characteristic sintering time can be controlled Independently of collision time by heating the particles with irradiation of laser because the sintering time strongly depends on temperature. A coflow oxy-hydrogen diffusion flame burner was used for $SiCl_4$ conversion to silica particle. Nanometer sized aggregates irradiated by a high power CW $CO_2$ laser beam were rapidly heated up to high temperatures and then were sintered to approach volume-equivalent spheres. The sphere collides much slower than the aggregate, which results in reduction of sizes of particles maintaining spherical shape. Light scattering of Ar ion laser and TEM observation using a local sampling device were used to confirm the above effects. When the $CO_2$ laser was irradiated at low position from the burner surface, particle generation due to gas absorption of laser beam occurred and thus scattering intensity increased with $CO_2$ laser power. At high irradiation position, scattering intensity decreased with $CO_2$ laser power and TEM image showed a clear mark of evaporation and recondensation of particles for high $CO_2$ laser power. When the laser was irradiated between the above two positions where small aggregates exist, average size of spherical particles obviously decreased to 58% of those without $CO_2$ laser irradiation with the spherical shape. Even for increased carrier gas flow rate by a factor of three, TEM photograph also revealed considerable reduction of particle size.
This paper is mainly concerned with the state of the practical developments of a constants PWM bridge type resonants DC-DC suitable converter for Nd:YAG Laser with a Microprocessor. (PIC16C54 & 8051) The use of IGBT power supply with feedback control of flashLamp currents imparts a advantages to Nd:YAG Laser for materials processing. these include the alility to tailor the pulseshape and modify pulse parameters on a pulse- by pulse basis. And Correct choice of pulseshape can enhance the repeatability of the process. as higher power IGBT became available, act ive pulseforming power supplies will find greater user in deep hole drilling machine By Using certain control tecniques, utililized in designing Pic16c54 from Microchip technology and Intel 8051, also Mornitoring from Microsoft Visual Basic 5, And it allowed us to designed and fabricate ahigh repel it ion rate and high power(HRHP) pulsed Nd:YAG laser system, As a result of that, the current pulsewidth could be contort led 200s to 350s(step 50s) , and the pulse repetition rate could be adjusted 500pps to 1150pps. In addition, in the case of one laser head consisting of a Nd:YAG laser rod and two flashlamps , the maximum laser output of 240w was produced at the condition of 350s and 1150pps, and that of about 480w was generated at the same condition when two laser heads were arranged in cascade.
Laser bonding between similar and dissimilar thermoplastics has been investigated by making use of laser transmission weld technique. Spot welding of two layers of plastic materials has been demonstrated by using of a high-quality diode-laser with 808nm wavelength. Weld areas increases according to power density, exposure time. The results of peel out test show that peel strengths increase with the area of molten plastics. Layers, which have the same chemical properties, have good bonding qualities. A bonding method which dye film is coated on the interface is used for laser bonding between plastics with high transmission for laser wavelength. Laser transmission bonding is worthy of attention because it is not in contact, requires a few tooling devices, allows a flexible energy delivery and produces nearly invisible welds
A high power diode-array-pumped slab Nd:YAG laser is described. The resonator consists of three mirrors in folded geometry. The laser is operated in acousto-optic Q-switching mode and intracavity frequency doubling is tried. We demonstrate that the laser exhibits frequency doubling efficiency of ∼60% with a type I LBO crystal.
Spectral Beam Combining (SBC) is used for a high-power fiber laser in order to overcome the power limitation of single fiber laser. In SBC, several laser bwams with different wavelengths are combined to obtain a single-aperture beam by diffraction grating. The combining efficiency is dependent on a linewidth, beam quality and specific wavelength of each beam among others. In this paper, we consider the method of a wavelength monitoring and a feedback control of laser diodes used as seeds of laser beams to obtain optimum combining conditions. In order to measure the wavelengths of multi-beam, we use the high resolution camera and diffraction grating with 1,800l/mm. The experiment results show the possibility of feedback control of a current and temperature of multi-seed laser diodes to obtain optimum wavelengths for SBC.
The gyroscope is the sensor for detecting the rotation in inertial reference frame and constitute the navigation system together an accelerometer. As the inertial reference equipment for attitude determination and control in the satellite, the mechanical gyroscope has been used but it bring the disturbance for mass unbalance so the disturbance give a bad influence to the observation satellite mission because the mechanical gyroscope has the rotation parts. During the launch. The mechanical gyroscope is weak in vibration, shock and has the defect of narrow operating temperature range so it need the special design in integration. Recently the low orbit observation satellite for seeking the high pointing accuracy of image camera payload accept the FOG(Fiber Optic Gyro) or RLG(Ring Laser Gyro) for the attitude determination and control. The Ring Laser Gyro makes use of the Sanac effect within a resonant ring cavity of a He-Ne laser and has more accuracy than the other gyros. It need the 1000V DC to create the He-Ne plasma in discharge tube. In this paper, the design process of the High Voltage Power Supply for RLG(Ring Laser Gyroscope) is described. The specification for High Voltage Power Supply (HVPS) is proposed. Also, The analysis of flyback converter topology is explained. The Design for the HVPS is composed of the inverter circuit, feedback control circuit, high frequency switching transformer design and voltage doubler circuit.
We report a passive Q-switching of an all-fiber erbium-doped fiber laser delivering high pulse energy by using a high quality single-walled carbon nanotube saturable absorber (SWCNT-SA). A side-polished fiber coated with the SWCNT is employed as an in-line SA for evanescent wave interaction between the incident light and the SWCNT. This lateral interaction scheme enables a stable Q-switched fiber laser that generates high pulse energy. The central wavelength of the Q-switched pulse laser was measured as 1560 nm. A repetition rate frequency of the Q-switched laser is controlled from 78 kHz to 190 kHz by adjusting the applied pump power from 124 mW to 790 mW. The variation of pulse energy from 51 nJ to 270 nJ is also observed as increasing the pump power. The pulse energy of 270 nJ achieved at maximum pump power is 3 times larger than those reported in Q-switched all-fiber lasers using a SWCNT-SA. The tunable behaviors in pulse duration, pulse repetition rate, and pulse energy as a function of pump power are reported, and are well matched with theoretical expectation.
