  • This paper is for investigation of the noise reduction effect all 20 filters by combining Low Pass Filter(LPF) 5 kinds, High Pass Filter(HPF) 4 kinds, Median Filter(MF) 11 kinds. Noise is added to reduce noise and minimize the quality degradation in medical imaging system. We also compared Peak Signal to Noise Ratio(PSNR), Mean Square Error(MSE) for all the combinations of different filters. As a result, noise decrease appeared in the LPF3*3#1 + HPF3*3#1 + Vertical3*1 of highest filter. We confirmed noise reduction effect by applying the proposed filter combination in many fields of medical imaging applications.

  • This paper presents a design method of programmable low pass filter(PLPF) which reduce an estimation error of a zero crossing point(ZCP) for a high speed brushless DC(BLDC) motor drive. BLDC motor sensorless drive is possible by estimation of ZCP. The ZCP estimated by detecting a change of back-EMF polarity has the estimation error because noises exist on the measured back-EMF. Therefore a calculated commutation timing using the ZCP is inaccurate. And the inexact commutation timing leads to ripples of 3-phase current and degradation of drive performance. This paper proposes the design method of the PLPF to overcome these problems. First, a speed calculated a inaccurate period of the ZCP is analyzed in the frequency domain. Then, the PLPF that has varying cut-off frequency according to change of the speed is designed on the frequency analysis result. The proposed method is verified by the experiment.

  • We propose a turbulence-tolerant Manchester on-off keying (M-OOK) transmission for free-space optical (FSO) communication. At the transmitter end, a M-OOK signal featuring a spectrum with low-frequency components absent is modulated and transmitted into a turbulent channel. At the receiver end, a low-pass filter (LPF) -based adaptive-threshold decision (ATD) with LPF-extracted channel-state information (CSI) and a high-pass filter (HPF)-based fixed-threshold decision (FTD) are employed to compensate for the effects of turbulence, owing to the low-frequency spectral characteristics of the turbulent channel. The performance of LPF-based ATD and HPF-based FTD are evaluated for various cutoff frequencies for the LPF and HPF. Besides, the proposed M-OOK transmission is compared to conventional non-return-to-zero OOK (NRZ-OOK) for different data rates. The proposed technique is verified in simulation. The simulation results show that the proposed M-OOK detection with optimized cutoff frequencies of LPF and HPF has better bit-error-rate (BER) performance compared to NRZ-OOK, and it is close to the theoretical ATD with the knowledge of precise CSI under various degrees of turbulence effects.

  • Chest X-ray image cannot be focused in the same manner as optical lenses and the resultant image generally tends to be slightly blurred. Therefore, appropriate methods to improve the quality of chest X-ray image have been studied in this paper. As the frequency domain filters work well for slight blurring and moderate levels of additive noises, we propose an algorithm that is particularly suitable for enhancing chest image. First, the chest image using Gaussian high pass filter and the optimal high frequency emphasis filter shows improvements in the edges and contrast of the flat areas. Second, as compared to using histogram equalization where each pixel of chest image is characterized by a loss of detail and much noises, in using fuzzy logic, each pixel of chest image shows the detail preservation and little noise.

  • The cause of failure in the AT feeding system is divided into grounding, short-circuit of feeding circuit and internal faults of the railway substation. Since the fault current is very high, real-time current is detected and the failure must be immediately removed. In this paper, a new DC offset elimination filter that can remove component to decrease in the form of exponential function using low-pass filter was proposed in order to extract the fundamental wave from distorted fault current. In order to confirm the performance of the proposed filter method, AT feeder system was modelled by simulation tool and simulations were performed under various conditions such as fault location, fault resistance and fault voltage phase angle in case of trolley-rail short-circuit fault. When applying the proposed DC-offset removal method, it can be seen that the phase delay and gain error did not appear.

  • In this paper, 3-phase hybrid series active power filter for compensate current harmonics, voltage drop and unbalanced voltage in the network presented. The proposed system is implemented with a space vector modulation voltage source inverter and a high pass filter connected in parallel to the power system. Here the load is six-pulses thyristor rectifier. The phase angle detected in order to generation reference voltage at load terminal is synchronized with the positive sequence component of the unbalanced source by using symmetrical component transformation. The proposed system has an function harmonic isolation between source and load, voltage regulation, and unbalance compensation. Therefore, what the power system is improved quality, the source current is maintained as a nearly sinusoidal waveform and the load voltage is regulated with a rated voltage regardless of the source variation condition. To verify the validity of the proposed compensating system, the computer simulation and experiment are carried out.

  • Basic design for single-phase active power filter, which aims at railway applications provided with PWM-controlled converters, is comprehensively studided and its performance is presented in this paper, Active power filters are used to compensate railway signaling and public telecommunication interference due to the high-order harmonic currents generated in railway traction locomotives. A type of hybrid digital filter which is composed of low pass filter and high pass filter is proposed so that the desired harmonic reference current with accurate magnitude and phase shift can be extracted from catenary line current. A design criteria to determine input inductor L and output capacitor C is also described, considering voltage, current. PWM pattern, and switching frequency of the main converters, Finally, computer simulation and DSP-based experiments resulted from laboratory test are presented.

  • This paper presents performance analysis on a low pass filter of a CT saturation detecting algorithm using difference. At the instants of beginning/end of saturation, the shapes of the secondary current are changed significantly though secondary currents are continuous. At the instants, the second-order or third-order difference of the secondary current has big values because of discontinuity of the first order difference. Thus, the third difference of the current is used to detect the beginning/end of CT saturation. An antialiasing low pass filter removes high frequency components and causes phase lag. A CT saturation detecting algorithm using difference of CT secondary currents is affected by the low pass filter. The algorithm is tested with cutoff frequencies of the filter for the two sampling rates of 64[S/C] and 32 [S/C]. The results of various test cases indicate satisfactory performance of the algorithm.

  • A VLSI digital filter design using a semi-custom method is described. The digital filters composed of TDM/FDM Transmultiplexer are designed. Using the polyphase network approach a filter bank composed of only all-pass digital filter sections was designed. The use of all-pass filters as basic building blocks is shown to provide a transmultiplexer structure that has low computational requirements, low quantization noise, and high modularity. The silicon compiler systems is used to reduce the design time and increase the credibility of designed filters. A design of 1st order and 2nd order all pass filters is done using CMOS 2um N-well double metal cell.

  • A miniaturized wideband band-pass filter with a 3-dB fractional bandwidth of 109.3% (1.53 GHz to 5.22 GHz), high out-of-band attenuation greater than 25 dB, and wide upper stopband up to 14 GHz is proposed. The design consists of a dual-composite right/left handed resonator, embedded open-circuited stub, and a pair of quarter-wavelength short-circuited stubs. These elements are coupled in the near distance to form a miniature filter with a compact occupied area of 0.21 λg×0.19 λg (≈ 0.013 cm2). The optimized filter has multitransmission poles in the passband, substantially improving the return loss and insertion loss characteristics. The behavior of the passband and stopband is verified against the results of a lumped element model and matrix analysis with a full-wave moment-based analysis and actual measurements. The results of this verification and a comparison with the performance of filters in other references indicate that the proposed filter is very efficient and applicable to compact microwave systems.
