  • In this paper, a DEVS(Discrete EVent Systems Specification)-HLA(High Level Architecture) interface was developed in order to perform the simulation using the combined discrete event and discrete time simulation model architecture in a distributed environment. The developed interface connects the combined simulation model with the HLA/RTI(Run-Time Infrastructure) which is an international standard middleware for distributed simulation. The interface consists of an interface model, a model interpreter, and a distributed environment interpreter. The interface model was defined by using the combined simulation architecture in order to easily connect the existing combined simulation model without modification with the HLA/RTI. The model interpreter takes charge of data transmission between the interface model and the combined simulation model. The distributed environment interpreter takes charge of data transmission between the interface model and the HLA/RTI. To evaluate the applicability of the developed interface, it was applied to the diving simulation of a submarine in a distributed environment. The result shows that a simulation result in a distributed environment using the interface is the same to the result in a single computing environment.

  • Possibility of federation improvement requires flexibility and adaptability of member federates. Moreover, to develop and convert a non-HLA(High Level Architecture) compliant model as a HLA federate and allow this federate to be integrated with a changeable federation, more time and efforts will be necessary. In this research, I proposed a method to design and implement a ROM (RTI Object Model) Framework as a solution to this problem. ROM completely separates RTI (Run-Time Infrastructure) programming and simulation programming therefore providing epochal efficiencies in cost and productivity to the development a HLA federate that supports a changeable FOM. That is, ROM contains two layers : 1) a management layer that manages RTI services between the RTI and the federate and 2) a Foundation Class layer that actually updates/reflects objects and interactions. These two layers allow federate developers to use more generalized HLA services and automates the iterative, low-level RTI programming process.

  • There are some limitations in the analysis and evaluation for area traffic control systems. The area traffic is consist of several intersections interconnected which are very complicated and many traffic strategy are adopted for the control system. This paper features an effective area traffic control system by High Level Architecture(HLA) which is a new developed simulation tool. In this paper, we discuss the design of HLA-based area traffic control simulation. We describe technical motivations for the HLA, the key elements of the architecture and how they are minimum and essential to the goal of reuse and interoperability in simulation arena.

  • There are plenty of optimization models for the signal-system of a single intersection and area traffic. Some of those models are adopted for the real traffic signal control system. The simulators for a single crossroad have been developed, so that we could evaluate optimization models and traffic control systems. However, the simulators for the area traffic are still being developed. Therefore, there are many limitations in the analysis and evaluation for area traffic control systems. • Weapon systems composed of several subsystems execute various engagement missions in distributed combat environments in cooperation with a large number of subordinate/adjacent weapon systems as well as higher echelons through tactical data links. Such distributed weapon systems require distributed real-time simulation test beds to integrate and test their operational software, analyze their performance and effects of cooperated engagement, and validate their requirement specifications. These demands present significant challenges in terms of real-time constraints, time synchronization, complexity and development cost of an engagement simulation test bed, thus necessitate the use of high-performance distributed real-time simulation architectures, and modeling and simulation techniques. In this paper, in order to meet these demands, we presented a distributed real-time simulation system based on High Level Architecture(HLA) and Discrete Event System Specification(DEVS). We validated its performance by using it as a test bed for developing the Engagement Control System(ECS) of a surface-to-air missile system. The proposed technique can be employed to design a prototype or model of engagement-level distributed real-time simulation systems.

  • Since HLA (High Level Architecture) was selected as a standardized distributed simulation architecture by US DoD in order to guarantee interoperability among all types of simulations, weapons system and C4I systems, to improve reusability of developed models in mid 1990s, a large number of federates have been developed and certified in accordance with HLA specifications. This paper illustrates case studies on HLA compliance test which are helpful for developers and managers. Based on experiences obtained from international HLA compliance test of CJ21_NG being developed for ground warfare simulation during ROKA's BCTP and UFL exercises, compliance procedures of US Defense and Modelling Simulation Office (DMSO) are introduced, and detail information at each phase of compliance test is provided.

  • The HLA system architecture, prescribed in IEEE-1516, is a core fundamental technology to build a complex simulation network system which is composed of a number of individual simulation developed for different purposes. The model structure of flight simulation with expansibility and compatability was suggested in this thesis by showing how to implement HLA to a commercial flight simulation software and how the system implemented with HLA to work. In addition, it was judged whether real-time can be guaranteed implementing to a simulation system with integrity through analysis of flight information data collected by comparing real-time simulation based on HLA with commercial flight simulation.
