The Zienkiewicz-Zhu(Z/Z) error estimate is slightly modified for the hierarchical p-refinement, and is then applied to L-shaped plates subjected to bending to demonstrate its effectiveness. An adaptive procedure in finite element analysis is presented by p-refinement of meshes in conjunction with a posteriori error estimator that is based on the superconvergent patch recovery(SPR) technique. The modified Z/Z error estimate p-refinement is different from the conventional approach because the high order shape functions based on integrals of Legendre polynomials are used to interpolate displacements within an element, on the other hand, the same order of basis function based on Pascal's triangle tree is also used to interpolate recovered stresses. The least-square method is used to fit a polynomial to the stresses computed at the sampling points. The strategy of finding a nearly optimal distribution of polynomial degrees on a fixed finite element mesh is discussed such that a particular element has to be refined automatically to obtain an acceptable level of accuracy by increasing p-levels non-uniformly or selectively. It is noted that the error decreases rapidly with an increase in the number of degrees of freedom and the sequences of p-distributions obtained by the proposed error indicator closely follow the optimal trajectory.

P-version finite element model for the computation of stress intensity factors in two dimensional cracked panels by J-integral method is presented. The proposed model is based on high order theory and hierarchical shape function. The displacements fields are defined by integrals of Legendre polynomials which can be classified into three part such as basic mode, side mode, integral mode. The stress intensity factors are computed by J-integral method. The example models for validating the proposed p-version model are centrally cracked panel, single and double edged crack in a rectangular panel under pure Mode I. And the analysis results are compared with those by the h-version of FEM and empirical solutions in literatures. Very good agreement with the existing solution are shown.
In this paper, a size-dependent dynamic investigation of a porous metal foams microbeamsis presented. The novelty of this study is to use a metal foam microbeam that contain porosities based on the refined high order shear deformation beam model, with sinusoidal shear strain function, and the modified strain gradient theory (MSGT) for the first time. The Lagrange's principle combined with differential quadrature hierarchicalfinite element method (DQHFEM) are used to obtain the porous microbeam governing equations. The solutions are presented for the natural frequencies of the porous and homogeneoustype microbeam. The obtained results are validated with the analytical methods found in the literature, in order to confirm the accuracy of the presented resolution method. The influences of the shape of porosity distribution, slenderness ratio, microbeam thickness, and porosity coefficient on the free vibration of the porous microbeams are explored in detail. The results of this paper can be used in various design formetallic foammicro-structuresin engineering.

Adaptive finite element analysis, in which its solution error meets with the user defined allowable error, is recently used to improve the reliability of finite element analysis results. This adaptive analysis is composed of two procedures; one is the error estimation of an analysis result and the other is the reconstruction of finite elements. In the (p-method, an element size is controlled by relocating of nodal positions (r-method) and the order of an element shape function is determined by the hierarchical polynomial (p-method) corresponding to the clement solution error by the enhanced SPR. In order to show the effectiveness and the accuracy of the suggested rp-method, various numerical examples were analyzed and these analysis results were examined by comparing with those obtained by the existed methods.

In order to show the effectiveness and accuracy of the suggested rp-method, various numerical examples were analyzed and these analysis results were examined by comparing with those obtained by the existed methods. As a result of this study, following conclusions are obtained. (1) rp-method is more accurate and effective than the r- and p-method. (2) The solution convergency of the rp-method is controlled by means of the iterative calculation numbers of the r- and p- method each other.
The current hierarchical model of galaxy formation predicts that galaxy halos contain merger relics in the form of long stellar streams. In order to find stellar substructures in galaxy, we focused our investigation on the stellar spatial density around globular clusters and on the quantitative properties of the evolved sequences in the color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs). First, we investigated the spatial configuration of stars around five metal-poor globular clusters in halo region (M15, M30, M53, NGC 5053, and NGC 5466) and one metal-poor globular cluster in bulge region (NGC 6626). Our findings indicate that all of these globular clusters show strong evidence of extratidal features in the form of extended tidal tails around the clusters. The orientations of the extratidal features show the signatures of tidal tails tracing the clusters' orbits and the effects of dynamical interactions with the galaxy. These features were also confirmed by the radial surface density profiles and azimuthal number density profiles. Our results suggest that these six globular clusters are potentially associated with the satellite galaxies merged into the Milky Way. Second, we derived the morphological parameters of the red giant branch (RGB) from the near-infrared CMDs of 12 metal-poor globular clusters in the Galactic bulge. The photometric RGB shape indices such as colors at fixed magnitudes, magnitudes at fixed colors, and the RGB slope were measured for each cluster. The magnitudes of the RGB bump and tip were also estimated. The derived RGB parameters were used to examine the overall behavior of the RGB morphology as a function of cluster metallicity. The behavior of the RGB shape parameters was also compared with the previous observational calibration relation and theoretical predictions of the Yonsei-Yale isochrones. Our results of studies for stellar spatial distribution around globular clusters and the morphological properties of RGB stars in globular clusters could add further observational evidence of merging scenario of galaxy formation.

This paper proposes a moving object tracking algorithm by using hierarchical search method in dynamic scenes. Proposed algorithm is based on two main steps: generation step of initial model from different pictures, and tracking step of moving object under the time-yawing scenes. With a series of this procedure, tracking process is not only stable under far distance circumstance with respect to the previous frame but also reliable under shape variation from the 3-dimensional(3D) motion and camera sway, and consequently, by correcting position of moving object, tracking time is relatively reduced. Partial Hausdorff distance is also utilized as an estimation function to determine the similarity between model and moving object. In order to testify the performance of proposed method, the extraction and tracking performance have tested using some kinds of moving car in dynamic scenes. Experimental results showed that the proposed algorithm provides higher performance. Namely, matching order is 28.21 times on average, and considering the processing time per frame, it is 53.21ms/frame. Computation result between the tracking position and that of currently real with respect to the root-mean-square(rms) is 1.148. In the occasion of different vehicle in terms of size, color and shape, tracking performance is 98.66%. In such case as background-dependence due to the analogy to road is 95.33%, and total average is 97%.

The objective of this study is to develop a spatial analysis modeling technique to evaluate the functional suitability of forest lands for land slide prevention. The functional suitability is classified into 3 categories of high, medium and low according to the potential of land slide on forest lands. The potential of land slide hazards is estimated using the measurements of 7 major site factors : slope, bed rock, soil depth, shape of slope, forest type and D.B.H. class of trees. The analytic hierarchical process is applied to determining the relative weight of site factors in estimating the potential of land slides. The spatial analysis modeling starts building base layers for the 7 major site factors by $25m{\times}25m$ grid analysis or TIN analysis, reclassifies them and produces new layers containing standardized attribute values, needed in estimating land slide potential. To these attributes, applied is the weight for the corresponding site factor to build the suitability classification map by map algebra analysis. Then, finally, cell-grouping operations convert the suitability classification map to the land unit function map. The whole procedures of the spatial analysis modeling are presented in this paper.

A 'flowered-wall,' which are also called a 'flower plant patterned wall,' or a 'flower patterned wall,' is a wall of a building or a fence with various patterns on it. A flowered-wall can be an external mean to look into the owner's authority and values while internally it possesses the symbolic meaning of wishing the well-being and peace of the household. In the research area of the flowered-wall, the walls located in the palace were well researched in various studies across architecture, horticulture, and art design, however, the walls belonging to the local regional traditional folk houses and temples have been involved in little to no research in the landscape architectural area. Taking notice of this perspective this study researched and analyzed the cases of the flowered-walls of the traditional folk houses and the temples that belonged to the national and municipal cultural properties of Jeollabuk-do Province from the landscape architectural perspective. The whole samples were examined and it was shown that there were 9 traditional folk houses with flowered-walls. Among the temples there were 7 cases. Therefore the research focusing on tracing the shape and symbolic meaning of the flowered-walls in the 16 cultural properties located in the Jeollabuk-do Province which consisted of traditional folk houses and temples resulted in the following. Flowered-walls displayed hierarchical differentiation revolving around the main space and its spacial characteristic. This differentiation is variously displayed across the flowered-wall, gable, crack plastering, and chimney. In the case of the folk houses the symbols have the meaning of the prosperity of the household and progeny, exorcism, longevity, number of fortune, harmony, and peace etc that prays for practical wishes such as long life and good health with the prosperity of their descendants. Meanwhile in the temples, symbols indicating an easy passage into eternity, perpetuation of the Buddha-nature, and three marks of existence are applied, differentiating from the folk houses by the appliance of the religious values in the patterns. In conclusion this research resulted in the rightful illumination on the local landscape culture, the possibility of expressing the Korean sentiment through flowered-walls in the contemporary space, the reassessment of flowered-walls, and the provision of basic data for a plan to success the cultural heritage.
