Determination of representative volume element in concrete under tensile deformation

  • The 2D representative volume element (RVE) for softening quasi-brittle materials like concrete is determined. Two alternative methods are presented to determine a size of RVE in concrete subjected to uniaxial tension by taking into account strain localization. Concrete is described as a heterogeneous three-phase material composed of aggregate, cement matrix and bond. The plane strain FE calculations of strain localization at meso-scale are carried out with an isotropic damage model with non-local softening.

  • In solar industry, numerous researchers reported about cold spray method among various electrode formation technic, but there are no known a bonding mechanism of metal powder. In this study, a cross-section of copper electrode formed by cold spray method was observed and heterogeneous phase between silicon substrate and copper electrode was analyzed using morphology observation technic. SEM and TEM analysis were performed to analyze a crystallinity and distribution shape of heterogeneous copper phase. Molecular dynamics simulation was performed to calculate glass transition temperature of copper metal. In the result, amorphous copper phase was observed near interface between silicon substrate and metal electrode. The results of the molecular dynamics simulation show that an amorphous copper phase could be formed at a temperature below the melting point of copper because cold spraying resulted in a lower glass transition temperature.

  • 포스핀(phosphine) 리간드(ligand)가 도포된 메조포러스 실리카(mesoporous silicas)에 팔라듐 나노입자를 도입하여 새로운 팔라듐(Pd) 불균일 촉매(heterogeneous catalyst)를 제조하였다. 제조된 촉매는 브롬화벤젠 유도체(bromobenzene derivatives)들의 Suzuki cross-coupling 반응에 대하여 뛰어난 촉매활성을 나타내었고 촉매를 두 번째 사용하였을 때는 수율이 감소하였다.

A transport model for high-frequency vibrational power flows in coupled heterogeneous structures

  • The theory of microlocal analysis of hyperbolic partial differential equations shows that the energy density associated to their high-frequency solutions satisfies transport equations, or radiative transfer equations for randomly heterogeneous materials with correlation lengths comparable to the (small) wavelength. The main limitation to the existing developments is the consideration of boundary or interface conditions for the energy and power flow densities. This paper deals with the high-frequency transport regime in coupled heterogeneous structures. An analytical model for the derivation of high-frequency power flow reflection/transmission coefficients at a beam or a plate junction is proposed. These results may be used in subsequent computations to solve numerically the transport equations for coupled systems, including interface conditions. Applications of this research concern the prediction of the transient response of slender structures impacted by acoustic or mechanical shocks.

  • Tensile stress-strain and dynamic acoustic resonance tests were performed on Fe-C-Ni-Cu-Mo high-strength steels, characterized by a heterogeneous matrix microstructure and the prevalence of open porosity. All materials display the first yielding phenomenon and, successively, a continuous yielding behavior. This flow behavior can be described by the Ludwigson equation and developes through three stages: the onset of localized plastic deformation at the pore edges; the evolution of plastic deformation at the pore necks (where the austenitic Ni-rich phase is predominant); the spreading of plastic deformation in the interior of the matrix. The analytical modeling of the strain hardening behavior made it possible to obtain the boundaries between the different deformation stages.

슈퍼 칩 구현을 위한 헤테로집적화 기술 (Ultimate Heterogeneous Integration Technology for Super-Chip)

  • 삼차원 집적화기술의 현황과 과제 및 향후에 요구되어질 새로운 삼차원 집적화기술의 필요성에 대해 논의를 하였다. Super-chip 기술이라 불리우는 자기조직화 웨이퍼집적화 기술 및 삼차원 헤테로집적화 기술에 대해 소개를 하였다. 액체의 표면장력을 이용하여지지 기반위에 다수의 KGD를 일괄 실장하는 새로운 집적화 기술을 적용하여, KGD만으로 구성된 자기조직화 웨이퍼를 다층으로 적층함으로써 크기가 다른 칩들을 적층하는 것에 성공을 하였다. 또한 삼차원 헤테로집적화 기술을 이용하여 CMOS LSI, MEMS 센서들의 전기소자들과 PD, VC-SEL등의 광학소자 및 micro-fluidic 등의 이종소자들을 삼차원으로 집적하여 시스템화하는데 성공하였다. 이러한 기술은 향후 TSV의 실용화 및 궁극의 3-D IC인 super-chip을 구현하는데 필요한 핵심기술이다.

폴리에틸렌을 지지체로한 4-Vinylpyridine-divinylbenzene 불균질계 음이온교환막의 제조 및 그의 특성에 관한 연구 (The Preparation and its Properties of Heterogeneous Anion Exchange Membrane from Polyethylene Matrix with 4-Vinylpyridine-divinylbenzene)

  • 본 연구는 붕소이온 분리를 위하여 4-Vinylpyridine-divinylbenzene(이하 4-VP-DVB라 칭함) 음이온 교환수지를 합성하고, polyethylene(이하 PE라 칭함)을 지지체로 사용하여 불균질계 음이온교환막을 제조하였다. 또한 그들의 구조와 기계적 성질 및 전기화학적 특성ㅇ르 FT-IR, conductometer와 pH meter 등의 기기로 측정하였으며, 유속과 전압의 변화에 따른 막의 성능을 평가하였다. 막의 분리성능은 PE 지지체 내에 4VP-DVB 이온교환 수지의 함량이 50wt%인 불균질막이 가장 우수하였으며, 산처리한 막이 수처리한 막의 그것보다 우수하였다. 막을 이용한 전기투석 실험에서 붕소이온 분리시 최적유속, 전압 및 시간은 각각 10mol/min, 18volt, 4시간이었다.

Preparation of a Composite of Sulfated Zirconia/Metal Organic Framework and its Application in Esterification Reaction

  • A porous metal-organic framework (MOF), MIL-101, was synthesized in the presence of sulfated zirconia (SZ) to produce acidic SZ/MIL-101 composites for the first time. The composites were characterized with XRD, nitrogen adsorption, FT-IR, scanning electron microscope, chemical analysis and so on. The composites (SZ/MIL-101s) were successfully applied in a liquid-phase esterification for a high yield of ester. This catalytic result of SZ/MIL-101, compared with that of pure SZ or MIL-101 (showing a negligible yield of ester), suggests that the SZ in the composite is highly active in the acid catalysis probably because of the well-dispersed active species of SZ. Moreover, the esterification is catalyzed in heterogeneous mode as confirmed by negligible esterification after filtration of the catalyst. Finally, microwaves can be efficiently applied both in the synthesis of the composites and the esterification reaction to accelerate the two processes of synthesis and esterification by about 5 times.
