  • Herpes zoster is a viral disease characterized by skin rash and persistent pain. Early treatment with epidural analgesia provides very effective pain relief and reduces the incidence of postherpetic neuralgia. However, epidural analgesia in elderly, deliberated or hypovolemic patients may complicate circulatory depression such as hypotension and bradycardia. Even if temporary, a major decrease in blood pressure may decrease coronary blood flow of patients with arteriosclerosis and ischemic accident may occur. We experienced a case of unstable angina pectoris after lumbar epidural blockade in a herpes zoster patient with chronic stable angina pectoris.

  • 1. Objectives : The Purpose of this case is to report that a Tae-eumin patient diagnosed as Herpes Zoster was treated with Yeoldahanso-tang and then his symptoms improved. 2. Methods : We diagnosed the patient as Tae-eumin-Kanyeol-byung(太陰人肝熱病). So we treated him With Yeoldahanso-tang, and used Visual Analogue Scale(VAS) and pictures of the affected part for the assessment. 3. Results : After we treated the patient with Yeoldahanso-tang, the vesicles were cleared and his symptoms improved. 4. Conclusions : This case study show an efficient result of using Yeoldahanso-tang in Tae-eumin diagnosed to Herpes Zoster.

  • Blazed up Herpes zoster lesions have been described in very few patients after free and pedicled flap transfer for reconstructive purpose. Although sensory recovery after flap reconstructions has been studied extensively most studies addressed subjective perceptions of sensation. Objective investigations of spontaneous reinervation of free and pedicled flaps are rare. We would like to present a witnessed herpes zoster infection of a latissimus dorsi skin flap 2 years after breast reconstruction.

  • 1. Objectives The purpose of these 2 case studies is to evaluate the effects of Gihwangbeakho-tang which is based on the Sasang Constitutional Medicine for the Herpes zoster. 2. Methods We used Visual analogue sign(VAS) and pictures of the affected part for the assessment. 3. Results After two patients were treated with Gihwangbeakho-tang, the vesicles were cleared and the pain was decreased. 4. Conclusions These 2 case studies show an efficient result of using Gihwangbeakho-tang in the treatment of Herpes zoster.

  • Brachial radiculoplexitis is characterized by acute onset of shoulder and arm pain followed by weakness and sensory loss. Brachial radiculoplexitis by herpes zoster is a rare disease, which can be diagnosed by careful history, electrodiagnosis and MRI. It has remained uncertain about clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis. Better understanding of this disease helps earlier diagnosis and prompt treatment to minimize neurologic sequale. We present two cases of subacute brachial radiculoplexitis preceded by herpes zoster infection.

  • Numerous treatment modalities for acute or subacute herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia have been introduced. Therefore, we updated the treatment modalities by conducting a wide review of the medical literature and we created a new treatment algorithm for herpes zoster and postherpetic neuralgia.

  • Herpes Zoster Oticus is a reactivation of latent varicella-zoster infection associated otalgia, facial nerve palsy, sensorineural hearing loss and vertigo. Facial nerve palsy is rapid in onset, usually severe degree, and poor is prognosis. And pain in the form of acute neuritis and postherpetic neuralgia is by far the most frequent and most debilitating complication of Herpes Zoster. The pain of Herpes Zoster may severe, but it is usually transitory. Some patients, with the elderly at particular risk, go on to develop postherpetic neuralgia. In the two cases, pain (especially postherpetic neuralgia) which is often severe and, unfortunately, refractory to most forms of treatment was reduced using herbal medicine and acupuncture but facial nerve palsy was not improved.

  • The etiology of neuralgia amyotrophy remains unclear. Herpes zoster induced neuralgia amyotrophy has been reported in extremely rare cases. In this case report, we describe the clinical features and electrophysiologic findings in a 68-year-old patient with neuralgia amyotrophy associated with herpes zoster infection. We suggest that brachial plexus inflammation due to viral infection may be a direct cause of reversible neuralgia amyotrophy.

  • Shingles is a latent viral infection of the sensory ganglia. It can be accompanied by a variety of neurologic complications, including polyradiculitis and myelitis. A 66-year-old man with diabetes mellitus presented with progressive weakness, hypethesia and neuralgic pain in his right arm after herpes zoster infection in right C5 dermatome. He was diagnosed with zoster polyradiculomyelitis and treated with intravenous acyclovir and corticosteroid. It is a rare case of zoster neurologic complication in spite of oral acyclovir treatment.

  • Herpes zoster is an infection by the varicella zoster virus in a partly immune compromised person such as old age, cancer, immune deficiency disease. When either the upper lumbar or sacral segments are involved, serious urinary retention caused by central spread of herpes zoster from dorsal root ganglion can occur. The urinary disturbance appears to have been due to motor dysfunction of detrusor muscle, trigone muscle, and internal sphincter. We experienced two cases of zoster affecting different segments of the spinal cord and resulting in urinary retention.
