Objectives : The purpose of this study is to present the effect of subcision, microneedle therapy system and herbal peeling therapy which is treatment of Korean medicine to atrophic acne scar patients. Methods : We administered subcision, microneedle therapy system and herbal peeling therapy to atrophic acne scar patients and tested the results by Qualitative Global Acne Scarring Grading System and Korean Acne Grading System as well. Results : After the treatment, all of the patients showed improvements in Qualitative Global Acne Scarring Grading System and Korean Acne Grading System as well. Qualitative Global Acne Scarring Grading System of patients changed from grade 2.71±0.71 to grade 1.14±0.86 along with the change of Korean Acne Grading System from grade 1.57±0.57 to grade 1.00±0.00. Conclusions : Subcision, microneedle therapy system and herbal peeling therapy may be effective in the treatment of moderate to severe acne scars, and could be applied in clinical practice.

Objective : Chronic renal failure(CRF) is defined as a permanent reduction in glomerular filtration rate(GFR), resulting in Structural and functional abnormalities. The purpose of this thesis is to report the improvement of a CRF stage4 on stroke patient through integrative medicine therapy.Methods : We treated the patient with herbal medication(Sibjeondaebo-tang gagambang), acupuncture and moxibustion as well as Western medication. We measured the Creatinine, BUN, eGFR in the serum and observed clinical symptoms During 4monthsResult : After treatment, the level of BUN and Creatinine was decreased and eGFR was increased. And the symptoms of CRF(edema, anorexia, general weakness) were improved.Conclusion : This study suggests that Integrative Medicine Therapy is effective in the treatment of CRF symptoms. In the future, for the effective management of CRF, It is considered necessary to build a systematic integrative medicine therapy.

This study was designed to evaluate the effects of oriental medicine therapy on a chronic pelvic inflammatory disease. The patient was admitted to the OBGY department of Dong-Shin University in Kwang-Ju, on September 15, 2004 and remained until October 20, 2004. She was treated with herbal medicine, herbal retention enema, herbal acupuncture etc. After treatment, improvement was seen in pelycalgia, low abdomen pain, dysuria, leukorrhea. The study suggests that oriental medicine therapy is significantly effective in the treatment of chronic pelvic inflammatory disease.

Background: Ramsay Hunt syndrome is a disease that cause faical palsy, ear pain, ear vesicle, tinnitus, hardness of hearing by geniculate ganglion herpes. Ramsay Hunt syndrome could be taken two sides view of herpes zoster and facial palsy. In traditional oriental medicine Ramsay Hunt syndrome could be diagnosed as heat and dryness syndromes. Object: These studies are clinical observations about two Ramsay Hunt syndrome patient cases that is recovered under the treatment by herbal-acupuncture therapy and moxibustion. Methods: For treatment in acute state, acupuncture therapy was used and in convalescent stage, herbal acupuncture therapy and moxibustion therapy were used. For diagnosis system, House-Brackmann system, Yanagihara's system used as diagnosis scales. Result&Conclusion: The results as follows. 1. Generally, to treat Ramsay Hunt syndrome, it is knwon that from invasion of virus to period of first effect a short term bring about good result, but in these two cases, though a long term. considerable effect was braught out. 2. In treating two cases, herbal acupuncture therapys what are called CF, JSD were used. satisfactory results was produced.

Objectives : This study is designed to investigate the effects of Korean medical therapy on 2 Alopecia areata. Methods : This is a case report on 2 patients who has been suffering from alopecia areata. To reduce their symptoms, we provided with internal herbal medicine 2 times a day, acupuncture therapy and Hwangryunhaedok-tang herbal-acupuncture therapy for three or four months. Results : After series of treatments, the symptoms of Alopecia areata were remarkably improved. Conclusions : This study shows us that Korean medical treatment effects on Alopecia areata.

In Oriental medicine, urinary incontinence is defined involuntary voiding of urine. This study was performed to investigate the treatment on urinary incontinence through the literature of oriental medicine. This study reviews the therapy method of urinary incontinence based on 63 books of oriental medicine and 20 papers about the treatment of urinary incontinence. Herbal medicine has been used as urinary incontinence treatment. One of herbal remedy is selected according to the symptoms, and then herbal products are supplemented such as warm-hot, convergence medicines. Acupuncture and moxibustion therapy has been performed with herbal medicine, electroacupuncture, pharmacopuncture, conservation therapy such as Kegel exercise, timed voiding and extracorporeal magnetic innervation for incontinence treatment. The treatment of urinary incontinence by oriental medicine includes auricular acupuncture, external medical treatment and taoist methods. There is a lack of related study about these therapy.

Purpose: The purpose of this case study is to report the effect of oriental and western medicine combination therapy for the Asthma during the period of pregnancy. Methods: We treated the patient who had the Asthma during the period of pregnancy and visited Dongshin University oriental hospital. The patient in this case was admitted for 9days due to the Asthma on the twenty-third week period of pregnancy. In consideration of pregnancy, this patient was treated with oriental and western medicine combination treatments such as herb medicine, acupuncture, herbal acupuncture therapy, and so forth. Results: There was remarkable improvement in condition of the patient, treated by oriental and western medicine combination therapy. Conclusion: We confirmed that western medicine treatment is effective in curuing with an urgent symptoms, but there is a limit to complete recovery or prevention. On the other hand. it proves that oriental medicine treatment is proficient with continuous treatment effect, but further studies are needed.

This study examined the clinical effects of Korean medicine therapy in a patient with hypopharyngeal cancer treated with chemotherapy. A 53-year-old male patient suffering from hypopharyngeal cancer was treated with docetaxel as well as acupuncture and herbal medicine. Tumor size was measured by computed tomography (CT) and adverse events were evaluated according to the National Cancer Institute's Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (NCI-CTCAE) version 5.0. After two months of combined treatment, the size of the tumor mass was reduced at the left side of the neck, posterior to the CCA and at the lymph node in the left retropharyngeal area and medial aspect of the carotid sheath. The adverse events of chemotherapy also improved. This study indicates that Korean medicine therapy, such as acupuncture and herbal medicine, may lessen the side effects of chemotherapy and may be effective in the treatment of hypopharyngeal cancer.

Objectives: The prostatitis is characterized as relatively uncurable chronic recurrent illness. Because it is so difficult to treat, this study was designed to evaluate the clinical effects of herb medicine, acupuncture, and herbal acupuncture therapy on chronic prostatitis. Methods: A clinical observation was made on thirty patients with chronic prostatitis. They were treated with herb medicine, acupuncture, and herbal acupuncture therapy. Before and after treatment we measured NIH-CPSI(National Institutes of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index). Results: After treatment NIH-CPSI was decreased considerably. Conclusions: This suggests a role for oriental medical therapy in treating prostatic diseases. Further study into approach and application of these treatments for prostatitis is needed.

Pediatric epilepsy, a chronic, recurrent brain disorder, is the most common neurological disorder in children. Its prevalence is increasing. Early management is very important since 30~40% of cases persist into adulthood. To provide basic data for future clinical research on pediatric epilepsy using Korean medicine treatment and cooperation between Western medicine doctors and Korean medicine doctors, we reviewed recent clinical research in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) using herbal medicine for pediatric epilepsy. A total of 23 articles (1 clinical practice guideline, 3 systematic reviews, 15 randomized controlled trials (RCTs), and 4 non-RCTs) were reviewed in this study. The authors summarized characteristics of included studies regarding study subjects, diagnostic tools, pattern identification tools, treatment period, evaluation tools, detail of herbal medicines, treatment effects, and adverse events. Combination therapy using both herbal medicine (HM) and anti-epileptic drugs (AEDs) was performed more frequently than herbal medicine alone. Liver-pacifying medicinal, water-draining medicine, and orifice-opening medicine were frequently used. The main single HMs were Cheonma, Boglyeong, Jogudeung, and Seogchangpo. Combined therapy using HM and AEDs had significant benefits in improving total effective rate. It also appeared to be safer than AEDs. However, since the quality of clinical trials was poor and only studies in the last 10 years were included, the clinical evidence was uncertain. Finally, the authors provided limitations of this study and several suggestions for future research based on our analysis results.
