Research on recognition, preference, and consumption of ginseng was conducted with the goal of enhancing the consumption of ginseng, and commercializing local ginseng dishes in Geumsan. With help from the Eulji University hospitals in Daejeon and Geumsan, a survey was completed by a group of 200 patients, including 50 diabetic and 50 hypertensive patients from each center. Results based on a patient's residence (p<0.001), and illness (p<0.001), showed that the percentage of outpatient treatments was very high at the center in Geumsan. Based on a patient's residence (p<0.001) and illness, a preference for ginseng was very high in Geumsan. Based on a patient's residence (p<0.01) and illness (p<0.05), the willingness to try new ginseng dishes was stronger at the center in Geumsan compared to the center at Daejeon. Based on residence and illness (p<0.001), hypertensive patients were more enthusiastic towards taking ginseng herbs. Based on residence (p<0.001) and illness (p<0.001), percipience concerning the effects of ginseng was more positive in Geumsan. Based on residence (p<0.001) and illness, the frequency of ginseng herb intake was higher in Geumsan. The research provides the basis for establishing changes in the perception of ginseng, providing accurate information, and promoting ginseng in local economies.
Objectives: This study was aimed to develop a Korean medicine clinical practice guidelines (CPG) of Climacteric and Postmenopausal Syndrome Methods: We conducted a questionnaire survey targeting Korean medicine doctors belonging to the Association of Korean Obstetrics and gynecology by e-mail and analyzed the answers. On October 18, 2016, we sent questionnaires to 583 people, and on October 31, 2016, we sent questionnaires to 581 people again. A survey ended on November 15, 2016. A total of 56 responded. Results: 1. 91.07% of respondents knew the concepts and contents of CPG, and all respondents agreed about the necessity of CPG. 2. Most common symptom of climacteric and postmenopausal syndrome that 65.75% of the respondents answered was the hot flush 3. To diagnosis a climacteric and postmenopausal syndrome, 69.64% of the respondents used pattern identification diagnosis mainly. 4. 36.84% of the respondents answered that herbal medicine and acupuncture are the most effective treatments for climacteric and postmenopausal syndrome. The most commonly used herb medicine was Kamisoyo-san. Conclusions: We figured out Korean Medicine doctors' recognition of Korean medicine clinical practice guideline, clinical diagnosis, treatment on climacteric and postmenopausal syndrome to make the contents of the CPG reflecting the clinical situation. Further research will be needed in the future.

Backgrounds & Objectives : The aim of study was to evaluate post stroke cognitive deficit. We applied CERAD-K for post-stroke cognitive deficit, and revalued after treatment for 4 weeks. Methods : We applied CERAD-K test to 25 patients with post stroke cognitive deficit and compared with previous literature. After acupuncture treatment, moxa treatment, herb medicines, physical and occupational therapy for 4 weeks, we revalued changes by CERAD-K to 13 people that received treatment. Results : The stroke group's points were lower than the normal group in general cognition. Verbal fluency, MMSE-KC, and constructional praxis scores was lower than the AD group. Boston Naming Test, word list immediate recall, word list delayed recall, wordlist recognition, and praxis delayed recall scores were higher than the AD group. Verbal fluency (p=0.017), MMSE-KC (p=0.026), and word list immediate recall (p=0.005) scores of 13 patients participating in this study showed a statistically significant increase after treatment. Conculsions : Acupuncture treatment, moxa treatment, herb medicines, physical and occupational therapy are effective for improvement of post-stroke cognitive deficit, but this study could not demonstrate whether some treatments influenced cognition and there was a limitation in lacking a control group.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for the development of medicinal herbs, which are useful for the treatment of chronic diseases and physical characteristics of the elderly. A total of 151 adult women aged 65 years or older currently living in Daejeon were enrolled. The contents of this study were parents' health status, recognition of the necessity for a dietary therapy, awareness of medicinal herbs, requirements for medicinal herbs, physician of medicinal herbs and obstacles to medicinal herbs. Based on these results, the differences in the perception of medicinal herbs according to the dietary needs group as well as differences in the perception of medicinal herbs according to medicinal herbicidal groups were analyzed. Of the 151 subjects, 90.7% were married, and 44.4% of them were aged between 40 and 49. Most of the patients were aged in their 70s (68.9%), and 79.5% of had chronic illnesses such as high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, arteriosclerosis, and heart disease. It is recognized that dietary therapy is necessary for the treatment of diseases, and awareness of medicinal herbs is low but necessary. As for the requirements for medicinal herbs, the most favored was 'porridge for the prevention and treatment of diseases', and 72.2% of medicinal herbs were physicians. However, problems cited were availabitity of ingredients, cooking technique, price of ingredients, and others. In addition, both groups requiring dietary therapy and having high awareness of medicinal herbs felt that medicinal herbs would be helpful in treating diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to provide a simple medicinal herb recipe for each disease and to develop anti cooked medicinal herbs.

Nae-Kyung says the puberty is corresponded to the age of 16~24(male) and 14~21 (female). And that time they are promoted the growth. However, Kidney qi doesn't make average situation during that time. So, the function of five viscera and six entrails fails to be perfect and symptoms appear. I came to the conclusion through the survey of about 200 high school students(male and female) and the theory of oriental medicine the distinctive features (like migraine, amnesia, depression, dysphoria, inappetence, irregular menstruation) came out that time. I defined this distinctive symptoms in boys and girls at puberty ‘synthetic symptoms of puberty’. For the medical cure and prevention I prescribed ‘Sachun-Nyung’ and that has medical benefits for ‘Replenishing qi and relieving the spleen, Soothing the liver and promoting blood circulation’
Toll-like receptors (TLRs), which are pattern recognition receptors (PRRs), recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and regulate the activation of innate immunity. All TLR signaling pathways culminate in the activation of NF-${\kappa}B$, leading to the induction of inflammatory gene products such as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS). Parthenolide, a sesquiterpene lactone isolated from the herb feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium), has been used as folk remedies to treat many chronic diseases for many years. In the present report, we present biochemical evidence that parthenolide inhibits the NF-${\kappa}B$ activation induced by TLR agonists and the overexpression of downstream signaling components of TLRs, MyD88, $IKK{\beta}$, and p65. Parthenolide also inhibits TLR agonists-induced COX-2 and iNOS expression. These results suggest that parthenolide can modulate the immune responses regulated by TLR signaling pathways.

Chelidonii Herba (Baekgulchae in Korean: CHE), a commonly used herb in Korea, Japan and China, is widely used in the treatment of stomach cancer, jaundice, gastric ulcer, edema and pain of stomach. In the present study, we demonstrated that CHE induces apoptosis in AGS cells, human stomach adenocarcinoma cell line. One of the most important recent advances in cancer research is the recognition that apoptosis plays a major role in both tumor formation and treatment response, In this study, CHE caused a decrease of viability in AGC cells. When AGS cells were treated with CHE, cells showed dose-dependent manner apoptotic cell death. Increased apoptotic cell death, exposured to CHE, resulted from induction of Bad translocation to mitochondria, cytochrome-c release from mitochondria to cytosol, activation of caspase-3, 8, 9, and PARP cleavage. These results suggest that CHE may be potential therapeutic approach in the clinical management of stomach adenocarcinoma.
The main purpose of the study is to figure out visitors' intentions for the Suanbo Spa Festival after they participated the events, programs offered from the Suanbo Festival organization. The visitors were also asked to evaluate contents, images, and convenience facilities of the festival. The study found that only visitors over 60s of age positively evaluate the festival, therefore, products such as traditional tea-making, herb-massage will attract old aged group. The findings suggests that event image and convenient facilities have impact on tourists' responses and intentions to their neighbors. The result of the study also recommend traditional participations such as horseback-riding, GaMa-riding, Korean traditional archery shooting to be added to the participating program.
Domestic and imported Cnidium officinale were investigated using GC based on a SAW sensor. Volatile components from the herb were detected by GC with a Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW sensor without any pretreatment. This system produced a frequency proportional to the amount of column effluent deposited on the SAW sensor. It could discriminate between domestic and imported Cnidium officinales. This was achieved by using a pattern recognition and a visual pattern called a $VaporPrint^{TM}$, derived from the frequency and chromatogram of the GC-SAW sensor. The origins of Cnidium officinale was well discriminated with the direct use of $VaporPrint^{TM}$.
'Usul' is a traditional medicinal herb, which has anti-inflammatory activities is distributed in India, Nepal, China, Korea, Japan. Korea pharmacopeia listed 'Usul' as either a species of Achyranthes japonica (Miq.) Nakai or A. bidentata Blume. Recent taxonomic studies in China and Japan delimited these taxa as two varieties, A. bidentata Blume var. bidentata and var. japonica Miq. A multivariate morphometric study of Achyranthes bidentata complex was undertaken to assess the entities of taxa that usefully could be recognized. Five quantitative characters were reviewed and analyzed with 293 specimens from Korea. The univariate analysis of inflorescence length, interval between florets, angle between floret and floral axis indicated that ranges among all taxa were continuous. However, quantitative characters of membrane size and the number of hairs within 4 were useful to identify two varieties. In PCA, the first three principal components accounted for 89.4% of the total variance. PCA revealed that var. bidentata showed distinctions in morphological attributes from var. japonica entity. Therefore, continued recognition at the infraspecifc level for these taxa is supported.
