Design analysis and simulation of an external helical gear

  • This study optimized the parameters of the helical gear based on the original external meshing helical gear pump, combined with the analysis of the stability and flow of the basic parameters of the equipment; herringbone gears were used to eliminate the axial force generated by the helical gears. An optimized helical gear rotor was built with NX. The error between the simulation and calculation results of pump displacement was 3.95% and the simulation results were valid. Analysis of the outlet pressure and lift changes (maximum change rates of 0.38% and 0.25%), pressure analysis of the XY center plane at different times in the same cycle (no pressure surge or drop), and analysis of the axial force of the primary and driven rotors (axis The axial force is close to 0) were performed. The results showed that the flow pulsation of the external gear pump was slight, the operation was smooth, vibration and friction were reduced, the wear of bearings and other components could be diminished, and the service life of the equipment was extended. The simulation results showed that the external gear pump met the design requirements.

Theoretical Shape Analysis of Continuous Contact Helical Gear for Low Noise Pump (저소음 기어펌프용 연속접촉 헬리컬기어의 형상 설계에 관한 연구)

  • The use of external gear pumps is an effective way to achieve adequate performance at low cost when composing hydraulic systems. The biggest drawback, on the other hand, is the accompanying noise. Gears of continuous contact shape are actively used for the pump recently. The continuous contact shape must be the helical type due to the nature of the gear pump that is driven only by the drive gear. In this paper the theoretical shape of continuous contact gear is analyzed using simple rack shape of straight lines and two circular arcs. Using such geometry, the theoretical equation will be developed by envelope curves according to the conjugate gear shape rules. After checking the validity of the theory by the shape of gear rules, the grinding shape was also developed. The 3D shapes using equation can be also drawn. It was also shown that contact ratio and radius of curvature are easily developed by the theoretical equations.

A Study on Fluid Flow Analysis of High Pressure Positive Displacement Pump without Clearance (클리어런스가 없는 초고압 회전용적형 헬리컬기어 펌프의 유동해석에 관한 연구)

  • For the purpose of high-pressure and suction of fixed amount, the development of ultra-high pressure rotating helical gear positive displacement pump with no clearance had been proceeded. The CFD analysis was performed to verify the internal pressure and the discharge flow velocity of the pump. Accordingly, a flow analysis were performed by FVM technique and we were unable to obtain a successful result since the fluid domain is separated because the grid is not configured in a row in FVM flow analysis of the fully enclosed type without clearance. Because of these problems, the flow analysis was performed by MPS method which grid configuration is not needed and the internal pressure and the discharge flow velocity of the pump were confirmed through the MPS flow analysis. At 1,000 rpm rotation speed of the rotor, the minimum internal pressure of the pump was 19.5 bar, maximum pressure was 44.6 bar and average pressure was 33.9 bar. And the minimum discharge flow velocity was 64.5 m/s, maximum discharge flow velocity was 84.8 m/s and average discharge flow velocity was 76.1 m/s. Through this study, we could confirm that MPS method was more suitable than FVM method in terms of flow analysis with no clearance. In addition, the relationship of the flow velocity according to the change of ultra-high pressure rotating helical gear positive displacement pump could be identified through this study.

Rotordynamic Analysis of a Dry Vacuum Pump Rotor-Bearing System for High-Speed Operation (고속 운전용 건식진공펌프 로터-베어링 시스템의 회전체동역학 해석)

  • A rotordynamic analysis was performed with a dry vacuum pump, which is a major equipment in modern semiconductor and LCD manufacturing processes. The system is composed of screw rotors, lobes picking air, helical gears, driving motor, and support rolling element hearings of rotors and motor. The driving motor-screw rotor system has a rated speed of 6,300rpm, and was modeled utilizing a rotordynamic FE method for analysis, which was verified through the results of its 3-D finite element model. As loadings on the bearings due to the gear action were significant in the system considered, each resultant bearing load was calculated determinately and indeterminately by considering the generalized forces of the gear action as veil as the rotor itself. Each resultant hearing loading was used in calculating each stiffness of rolling element bearings. Design goals are to achieve wide separation margins of critical speeds and favorable unbalance responses of the rotor in the operating range. Then, a complex rotordynamic analysis of the system was carried out to evaluate its forward synchronous critical speeds, whirl natural frequencies and mode shapes, and unbalance responses under various unbalance locations. Results show that the entire system is well designed in the operating range. In addition, the procedure of rotordynamic analysis for dry vacuum pump rotor-bearing system was proposed and established.

Results show that the entire system is well designed in the operating range. In addition, the procedure of rotordynamic analysis for dry vacuum pump rotor-bearing system was proposed and established.
