  • The purpose of this study is a proposal about the flexibility of the performance category to revitalize the "Housing Performance Grading Indication System". This system consists of 5 main performance parts, 14 performance categories and 20 detailed performance lists. 5 main performance parts are Noise and Acoustics(Light-weight impact sound control, heavy-weight impact sound control, sound control of toilet, sound control of party wall), Long-life(flexibility, remodeling & maintenance, durability), Landscape & Indoor Environment(landscape, formaldehyde control& ventilation, daylighting, thermal environment), Welfare & Barrier-free(playground and community center, welfare space, barrier-free design), Fire Safety(fire safety, safe place, fire-resisting quality). The flexibility of the performance category is conformed to Long-life housing related grading and can realize the Long-life housing in response to resident needs about the space rearrangement. Now, The flexibility of the performance category is limited to the evaluation of the private space, that is, the Skeleton evaluation. This study would suggest alternatives to improve uppermost limits through analyzing 60 examples from January 9th 2009 to October 30th 2008. The flexibility of the performance category is possible to estimate not only the Skeleton evaluation but also the Infill evaluation in response to social changes.

The purpose of this research is to analyze characteristics and assessment results of 20 detailed performance items on "Housing Performance Grading Indication System" which was enforced 240 cases from Jan 9th, 2006 to Sep 30th, 2010. The analysis of approval condition of detailed performance items will be important comments for understanding the current domestic level and development of technology.

  • Previous experimental results performed by many researchers for a couple of decades in South Korea have shown that an absorbing sheet inserted in a conventional floating slab system for thermal insulation or vibration absorption may amplify the vibration of the slab system at specific frequency ranges depending on the material properties of the sheet. The amplified vibration, consequently, results in the heavy weight floor impact noise exceeding the sound level limit for an apartment house, 50dB. In this study, the amplification mechanism is examined through numerical analysis and a new slab system is proposed to reduce the amplification and control the noise. The new slab system consists of studs connecting the base slab and upper concrete finishing yielding the dramatically increased stiffness of the slab. The numerical simulation is performed to investigate the effect of the slab system with studs on the vibration and noise control. The results show that the performance of the slab is sensitive to the number and location of studs, and the heavy weight floor impact noise can be reduced up to 6-7dB compared to the conventional slab system at the optimal stud location.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect of energy saving and sound insulation of building materials mixed with charcoal. To investigate the functionality of building based on the difference of construction materials, three different experimental buildings were constructed. They were buildings built with the conventional construction materials (A), the charcoal construction materials (B), and the charcoal-sericite construction materials (C). The study showed that energy consumption could be reduced approximately 9.5% and 14.5% by replacing A with B and C, respectively. Especially, it is revealed that the lower outdoor temperature was, the higher energy saving effect was. Also, after shutoff the boiler switch the decrease rate of room temperature of the one using B was lower than those of others using A and C so that the room temperature at the building using B was higher by $3.5{\sim}4.2^{\circ}C$ in the 1 meter air above the ground and by $4.4{\sim}5.4^{\circ}C$ on the floor surface after 12 hours passed. In the building noise test the heavy-and light-weight impact sound of the plate, represented by criterion of noise between floors in multi-story building, tended to decrease in the test sample containing charcoal.

  • As remodeling market is growing and peoples' concern on health and well-being is getting high, there is a need to apply environmentally friendly approach to remodeling an apartment houses. But, in point of the impact noise concerned, the thickness of the concrete slab and the limited ceiling height of the remodelling houses are the main constraints to improve the impact noise performance. In order to investigate the effect of the impact noise isolation as structural treatments for the structural elements, heavy-weight impact noise and tapping noise were measured in an remodeling building. As a result, structural strengthening method by H-beam was successful to enhance the impact noise level at about 3 or 4 class by the sound classification system.

  • The purpose of the present study is to establish structural noise analyzing method for apartments building floor with structural-acoustic coupling analysis modeling. Noise through floor in the room is recognized as a significant problem with the consequence that noise isolation technique has been studied in the various fields of industry. From among noise factors, resonance sound is the main reason for solid noise of the floor, which is occurred by mechanical vibrations of the acoustic boundary line and the change of velocity. To analyse this phenomenon, numerical computation methods are provided in many fields, In this study, evaluation method for slab is established using finite element method, and a case study for analyzing acoustic phenomenon was suggested. The results show that numerical method, especially F.E.M, has a good approximation to predict noise at floors.

  • This study attempts to identify the ways of reducing the floor impact sound, by applying six different types of the reinforced bar girders and stirrup arrangements to the Structure: (1) the longer-direction girder arrangements (2) the shorter-direction girder arrangements (3) the diagonal-direction arrangements (4) the longer-direction girder arrangements with stirrups (5) the shorter-direction girder arrangements with stirrups (6) the diagonal-direction arrangements with stirrups. In order to identify the most effective structural changes, each slab was tested with bang machines, measuring the level of the sound impact. The results showed that the longer-direction girder arrangements with stirrups were the most effective one. In addition, the effectiveness of slab was found to be remarkable, showing the level of minimum 1dB to maximum 5dB, where the slab was compared with the control models without girders and stirrups. In conclusion, it is suggested that the longer-direction girder arrangements with stirrups could possibly be applied to the Wall Structures to minimize the floor impact sound.
