  • The finite element method has been used to model and analyze the heat transfer phenomena during manufacturing process of MoSi $_{2}$ by SHS. For this urpose nonlinear transient heat transfer analyses by using ANSYS have been performed to compute the temperature distributiuon and the peak temperature in the test specimen. The effects of manufacturing process parameters such as a pre-heating temperature, the velocity of reaction zone have also been investigated. The results of the analysis have been compared with the experimental results.

  • In this paper, we have developed a submicron Si MOSFET simulator, which is physically based on the hydrodynamic energy transport mode. The simulator was used to investigate the nonstationary transport effects and the transient phenomena in submicron Si MOSFET's. It is found that the velocity overshoot and the carrier heating are dominant transport mechanism near the drain end of the channel and the transient phenomena is more retained in a long channel MOSFET.

  • Thermoacoustic oscillation induced by a heater in a tube with air current is studied theoretically. Linearized perturbation equations are derived in dimensionless form under the assumption that the system is one dimensional. The equation to predict the acoustic power generation from a heating surface is derived and calculated by solving differential equations numerically. The effect of the mean velocity of the air current is illustrated. The energy conversion mechanism is shown by pressure-volume diagram like a heat engine.

  • The combustion characteristics of the disilicides molybdenum system have been studied experimentally. The pertinent reaction parameters that control self-propagating high temperature synthesis reactions have been examined. These include reactant particle size, powder mixing and compaction, reaction stoichiometry, diluents. The inf1uence of experimental variables on integrity, uniformity, structure, and related material properties will be discussed. Formation mechanism of MoSi$_2$ during SHS might be different and depending on experimental conditions.

  • Finite element equations by using fast Fourier transformation were formulated for studying temperatures resulting from frictional heating in sliding systems. The equations include the effect of velocity of moving components. The program developed by using FFT-FEM that combines Fourier transform techniques and the finite element method, was applied to the sliding bearing system. Numerical prediction obtained by FFT-FEM was in an excellent agreement of experimental temperature measurements.

  • The performance of heat exchanger using oscillating heat pipe (OHP) for low temperature waste heat recovery was evaluated. OHP used in this study was made from low finned copper tubes connected by many turns to become the closed loop of serpentine structure. The OHP heat exchanger was formed into shell and tube type. R-22 and R-141b were used as the working fluids of OHP with a fill ratio of 40 vol.%. Water was used as the working fluid of shell side. As the experimental parameters, the inlet temperature difference between heating and cooling water and the mass velocity of water were changed. The mass velocity of water was changed from 30 kg/$m^2$s to 92 kg/$m^2$s. The experimental results showed that the heat recovery rate linearly increased as the mass velocity and the inlet temperature difference of water increased. Finally, the performance of OHP heat exchanger was evaluated by $\varepsilon$-NTU method. It was found that the effectiveness would be 80% if NTU were about 1.5.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the fluid flow characteristics of heat storage in sensible heat storage system for use In cooling and heating of buildings. Heat storage material was gravels and experiments were performed in the condition of constant temperature. The experimental parameters were fluid velocity and size of gravels. The experimental results of the heat storage quantity and the heat storage efficiency by the variation of packing size and fluid velocity were as the follows : The maximum value of the heat storage capacity and heat storage efficiency and the minimum arriving time for maximum heat storage were observed when the packing ratio was 72.5% and the fluid velocity was 0.14m/s.

  • In conventional heat and vent dryer, both sensible and latent heat could not be recovered from the exhaust air, but this problem could be solved by introducing a heat pump to a conventional dryer, having a connection with cooling, dehumidifying and heating of heat pump. In this work, HFC134a as a substitute refrigerant of CFC12 adopted in heat pump and a batch type is also introduced. The variables affected on the system performance are holding temperature of a drying chamber, bypass air ratio, degree of superheat and refrigerant flowrate, etc. The moisture contents were decreased curvilinearly in the range of $86{\sim}75%$ on the wet basis. Under the constant drying temperature, the face velocity plays an important role to the drying performance. The COPs are increased in accordance with the air velocity, on the other hand the SMERs are gradually decreased.

  • MILD (Moderate and Intense Low-oxygen Dilution) combustion using oxygen as an oxidizer is considered as one of the most promising combustion technologies for high energy efficiency and for reducing nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide emissions. In order to investigate the effects of nozzle angle and oxygen velocity conditions on the formation of oxygen-MILD combustion, numerical and experimental approaches were performed in this study. The numerical results showed that the recirculation ratio ($K_V$), which is an important parameter for performing MILD combustion, was increased in the main reaction zone when the nozzle angle was changed from 0 degrees to 15 degrees. Also, it was observed that a low and uniform temperature distribution was achieved at an oxygen velocity of 400 m/s. The perfectly invisible oxy-MILD flame was observed experimentally under the condition of a nozzle angle of $10^{\circ}$ and an oxygen velocity of 400 m/s. Moreover, the NOx emission limit was satisfied with NOx regulation of less than 80 ppm.

  • Zirconium carbide was prepared from the mixture of metal zirconium and carbon powders in argon atmosphere by Self-propagating High-temperature Synthesis (SHS) in order to obtain the best carbon source and dilution contents. The most exellent result was obtained in the case that active carbon was added as a starting material, 20~30 wt% dilution content. From thermal profile analysis an apparent activation energy of 118 KJ/mol was calculated. The maximum heating rate achieved during 15 wt% ZrC reaction by product dilution method was approximately 1.54$\times$105 K/s. Coupling this value with the measured wave velocity of 1.026cm/s yielded a maximum thermal gradient fo $1.5\times$105 K/cm. Using the definition of t* and the measured wave velocity, the effective thermal diffusivity, $\alpha$, was calculated to be 0.62$\times$102 $\textrm{cm}^2$/s.
