Apartment balcony has been remodeled since the government permitted remodeling in January 2006.But extended balcony has great impact on building heat gain and loss. Therefore It has problems such as increase of heating and cooling energy. So $\underline{t}echnical$ solutions about window solar gain in summer is an urgent matter. The Purpose of this study is to evaluate energy performance of a blind in a double-skin facade in residential buildings by using EnergyPlus program. The results show that slat angles of $90^{\circ}$ is best in energy performance if we do not consider daylight. Poorly daylighted living room needs electric light and it also causes high cooling load. On the other hand, the results show that the application of blinds controlled automatically is best for energy performance when we consider daylight. Blind slat angles of $50\sim60^{\circ}$ have best performance when blinds are controlled in this angle throughout the day on a clear day in August. Blind slat angles of $0\sim30^{\circ}$ have best performance when blinds $\underline{are\;controlled}$ in this angle throughout the day on a cloudy day (more than 7 of total sky cover) in August.
This paper presents an experimental work on the post-fire behavior of two kinds of innovative composite stub columns under eccentric compression. The partially precast steel reinforced concrete (PPSRC) column is composed of a precast outer-part cast using steel fiber reinforced reactive powder concrete (RPC) and a cast-in-place inner-part cast using conventional concrete. Based on the PPSRC column, the hollow precast steel reinforced concrete (HPSRC) column has a hollow column core. With the aim to investigate the post-fire performance of these composite columns, six stub column specimens, including three HPSRC stub columns and three PPSRC stub columns, were exposed to the ISO834 standard fire. Then, the cooling specimens and a control specimen unexposed to fire were eccentrically loaded to explore the residual capacity. The test parameters include the section shape, concrete strength of inner-part, eccentricity ratio and heating time. The test results indicated that the precast RPC shell could effectively confine the steel shape and longitudinal reinforcements after fire, and the PPSRC stub columns experienced lower core temperature in fire and exhibited higher post-fire residual strength as compared with the HPSRC stub columns due to the insulating effect of core concrete. The residual capacity increased with the increasing of inner concrete strength and with the decreasing of heating time and load eccentricity. Based on the test results, a FEA model was established to simulate the temperature field of test specimens, and the predicted results agreed well with the test results.
EnergyPlus, which is widely used in various fields, provides Simple Window Model, a window model that can be used practically. However, the results of building load using the model are different from those of the standard model. The main cause of the deviation by Simple Window Model was analyzed to be due to the assumption that all windows were considered as single layer. The purpose of this study is to propose a window model that improves the cause of deviation by Simple Window Model and can be easily calculated from the algebraic relations. The proposed window model solved the heat balance equation algebraically by using seven window characteristic coefficients. The coefficient relationships consisted of the heat transmission coefficient and solar heat gain coefficient as input parameters make practical use and calculation possible. As a result of comparing the deviation between each window model by implementing the dynamic analysis method, the proposed window model showed that the deviation of the total heating/cooling energy consumption was reduced to 1/3 compared to Simple Window Model for one year. Although the maximum energy consumption did not show any significant improvement, the indoor temperature evaluation showed significantly reduced deviation.
Ceiling cooling and heating system that consider load arrangement and space in the ceiling needs to be developed. Therefore, experimental and economic changes were done to verify the performance of compact type VAV. The test results were as follow. 1) Noise test result, measuring approximately 50.4 dB~56.6 dB (before ceiling in landfill), had a better ceiling deadline than the current measure, about a 10 dB noise reduction, so that the office baseline (40~50 dB) noise was judged to be less than test. 2) For the static pressure test result, taking out an outside hydrostatic 25 mmAq, 24.8 mmAq was measured, respectively, at the point. 3) For the life-cycle cost analysis result, the initial investment cost, maintenance replacement costs, and maintenance costs increased 0.2%, but the energy savings ratio was 19.5% while the whole life cycle savings of 40 years LCC was reduced 11.9%.
It is necessary to improve the performance of buildings with respect to the energy efficiency while improving the quality of occupants' lives through a sustainable built environment. During the design and development process, building projects must have a comprehensive, integrated perspective that seeks to reduce heating, cooling and lighting loads through climate-responsive designs. The aim of this study is to find an optimal thermal transmittance (U-values) for building envelope elements for low energy multi-rise residential buildings in the early design phase in Korea. The study found that using small U-values of $0.15w/m^2K$ for exterior walls, ceilings and floors and $1.0w/m^2K$ for south and north facing windows has resulted in energy reduction of 22.1%-59.4% in the south facing rooms and 43%-77.6% of the north facing rooms. It has also found the energy load reduction potential of using small U-values are higher on the north facing rooms. The findings of this study can be suggested to be used as a baseline case for low energy consumption studies. It can also be used to determine appropriate envelope materials and insulation values.
Purpose: Generally, 30% of the total energy consumption in office building is used for artificial indoor lightings, and almost 75-85% of electric power in fluorescent and Light-Emitting Diode (LED) lightings can be dissipated as a form of heat into indoor environment. The heat generated by indoor lightings can cause the increase of cooling load in office buildings. Thus, it its important to consider indoor lightings as a heat and light source, simultaneously. Method: In this study, we installed two kinds of indoor lightings including fluorescent and LED lightings and measured surface temperature of both indoor lightings. In addition, we obtained ambient temperature of indoor space and finally calculated total heat dissipated from plenum area and surface of lightings. Result: Total indoor heat gain was 87.17Wh and 201.36Wh in cases of six 40W-LED lightings and 64W-fluorescent lightings, respectively.
As outdoor environment become worse due to concentration of population in large cities, the importance of environmental control strategies such as the arrangement of green space or water space and ventilation paths, has been increasingly recognized. However, most of the studies focus on the assessment on outdoor thermal environment, few studies focus on the interrelationship between thermal environment in residential block and human thermal comfort. The aims of this study is to develop the outdoor planning method to reduce the heating/cooling load in an apartment unit or entire block by the sustainable approaches in outdoor environmental design. In this paper, on the basis of the prior studies, the effect of the outdoor thermal environment on human thermal comfort will be analysed.
Building Integrated PV(BIPV) is one of the best fascinating PV application technologies. To apply PV module in building, various factors should be reflected such as installation position, shading, temperature, and so on. Especially a temperature should be considered, for it affects both electrical efficiency of a PV module and heating/cooling load in a building. This study investigates a semitransparent PV module that is designed as finished material for windows. Therefore it needs to considerate about the optical characteristics of the transparent module. It reports the effect of thermal and optical characteristics of the PV module on generation performance. The study was performed by measuring sun spectrum and luminance through the PV modules and by monitoring the temperature and experiment. The results showed that 1 degree temperature rise reduced about 0.48% of output power.
