  • Effect of gamma irradiation on the softening of dried fernbrake at different moist-heating conditions was investigated. Dried fernbrake packaged in controlled atmosphere $(CO_2\;25\%,\;N_2\;75\%)$ was irradiated up to 7 kGy with $\gamma-ray$. Hardness of dried fernbrake was significantly decreased at the irradiation dose of above 5 kGy. Hardness of cooked fernbrake was significantly decreased with increasing irradiation dose level as well as heating temperature and time. $DT_{50}$ value (The heating time required to reach the $50\%$ reduction of hardness) for irradiated fernbrake was shortened according to dose level as well as heating temperature and heating time: $DT_{50}$ value of control: 23 min, 5 or 7 kGy: $2.2\~5.0$ min at $60^{\circ}C$. Also, the activation energy for softening of irradiated fernbrake ($1.85\~1.88$ kcal/mole for $5\~7kGy$) decreased compared to control (4.30 kcal/mole). Moisture content, swelling and rehydration rate of gamma irradiated fernbrake during moist heating increased according to the irradiation doses. Sensory results showed that scores of off-flavor and odor in irradiated fernbrake upto 7 kGy were not significantly different from control. Based on these results, gamma irradiation was effective for the reduction of cooking time and the activation energy for softening of dried fernbrake with increasing dose levels.

  • By using the heat recovery of water-cooled chillers, it is possible to reduce the energy operating costs positively and at the same time it could fulfill the heating re-heat air conditioning system as well as the hot water requirements. Basically templifiers are designed to economically to turn the waste heat into useful heat. Waste heat is extracted from a fluid stream by cooling it in the evaporator, the compressor amplifies the temperature of the heat and the condenser delivers the heat to heating loads such as space heating, kitchens and domestic hot water. Design of higher water temperature requirements and split condenser heat recovery chiller system (using of templifiers) produced hotter condenser water approximately up to $60^{\circ}C$ and control the entire heat recovery system.

  • It is known that the classical tuning formula for typical PID controllers in general provides unsatisfactory results for industrial plants where the time delay exceeds the dominant lag time. For this reason, alternative strategies have been studied in order to cope with this problem and the most popular scheme is the Smith Predictor(SP). In this paper, the dynamic model of a unit apartment in the district heating system, which is the control process effected by the dead-time, is developed, and the on/off room temperature control method with the SP simulate using Matlab-Simulink. The simulation results show that the SP works effectively in outdoor temperature variation.

  • This paper has been studied the parallel resonant inverter which controlling the constant power and tracking the load resonant frequency with PLL is possible, in order to minimize switching losses. The current-fed full-bridge type parallel resonant inverter of an induction heating system was composed of IGBT in switching device. For regulating the output power of an induction heating system, the Fuzzy controller is used. The Fuzzy controller makes the control signal for a stable power regulating control and when reference is changed, it is superior to adaptability. It has been evaluated a stable behavior for a noise with switching and a load disturbance.

  • Single-frequency induction heating equipment caused by a hardening heat treatment process of the double investment in the issue and allow the heat treatment process in order to shorten the time from one process to work simultaneously on two kinds of processes that allow Simultaneous Dual Frequency(SDF) drive scheme technology are described. In this paper, we propose a dual way to drive a simultaneous dual-frequency drive scheme has been implemented. Through simulations and experiments, we can obtain the validity of the proposed inverter for dual-frequency control and power control.

  • The solar energy retention rate of a flat plate collector can be increased by increasing water flow rate through the collector which also increases the pumping energy incurred in obtaining that solar energy. The problem of optimal flow rate is formulated to fit within the framework of pontryagin's maximum principle and with a few simplifying assumptions, an optimal solution that can be easily implemented is obtaincd, The optimal solution is used in the simulation of a solar heating system using actual climatological data and the results are compared with that of on-off control. The result that not only the object function but, In some cases, also the solar energy retention rate the collector is increased. In is also found that the optimal control gets more advantageous as the solar insolation level gets lower, and also as tile cost of auxiliary heating fuel gets higher.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the microbiological quality of heating and after-heating processed foods for implementation of a HACCP system in day-care center foodservice operations. The evaluating points were microbial assessment and temperature of foods during receiving, cooking, and serving in heating process. In non-heating process, in addition to monitoring microbial assessment of food during preparation, cooking, and serving steps, the microbial populations of employees' hands and utensils and serving temperature were also evaluated. Microbiological quality was assessed using 3M Petrifilm$^{TM}$ to measure total plate count and coliforms for foods and utensils and Staphylococcus aureus for hands in five Gumi day-care centers. Microbiological quality assessment for foods and utensils is summarized as follows. Microbiological quality of the heating processed foods was satisfactory for cooking and serving steps. The internal temperature of food was above 74$^{\circ}C$. However, temperature control before the serving step was not achieved due to inappropriate time management between the cooking and serving steps. In the after-heating process, the total plate counts of boiled mungbean sprouts salad, blanched spinach salad, com vegetable salad were below the standard at the serving step. The majority of samples showed that coliforms exceeded the norm, which is thought to be the result of the cross-contamination from utensils. These results suggest that it is essential to educate employees on the importance of hand washing and of avoiding cross-contamination by using clean, sanitized equipment to serve food in the after-heating process. Establishing Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs) is an essential part of any HACCP system in day-care center foodservice operations.

  • Heating and hot water supply energy consumption of medium and multi boiler systems applied to military officer housing are compared with in-situ experiment and TRNSYS dynamic simulation program. In a multiple boiler system, small capacity boilers are connected in parallel to meet the required capacity. For handling partial loads, medium capacity boiler relies on on-off control, while multi boiler adopts PI control. Since multi boiler has higher efficiency and better control strategy, the results show that energy consumption can be reduced significantly with the multi boiler system.
