Recently, the design problem of heat insulation have been reappraised in the aspect of energy saving due to the rising trend of energy cost. For example, that design problem is increasingly requsted in the fields of accommodation air conditioning systems, hot water supply systems, cargo handling systems, district heating or cooling systems. The rational design of heat insulation of piping systems can not only improve the overall efficiency of energy transfer but also give energy saving. In this paper, the heat insulation problem of district heating systems is therefore modeled as the multi-stage decision processes, suitable for dynamic programming technique. And take the object function as the sum of heat insulation material cost involved construction cost and heat loss cost, and propose the design method to minimize the object function for overall piping systems by dynamic programing. Effectiveness of design method presented here is proved by a computer simulation.
This paper presents the optimal design of a heating system using radiant heating elements for application in smart farms. Smart farming, an advanced agricultural technology, is based on artificial intelligence and the internet of things and promotes crop production. Temperature and humidity regulation is critical in smart farms, and thus, a heating system is essential. Radiant heating elements are devices that generate heat using electrical energy. Among other applications, radiant heating elements are used for environmental control and heating in smart farm greenhouses. The performance of these elements is directly related to their electrical energy consumption. Therefore, achieving a balance between efficient electrical energy consumption and maximum heating performance in smart farms is crucial for the optimal design of radiant heating elements. In this study, the size, electrical energy supply, heat generation efficiency, and heating performance of radiant heating elements used in these heating systems were investigated. The effects of the size and electrical energy supply of radiant heating elements on the heating performance were experimentally analyzed. As the radiant heating element size increased, the heat generation efficiency improved, but the electrical energy consumption also increased. In addition, increasing the electrical energy supply improved both the heat generation efficiency and heating performance of the radiant heating elements. Based on these results, a method for determining the optimal size and electrical energy supply of radiant heating elements was proposed, and it reduced the electrical energy consumption while maintaining an appropriate heating performance in smart farms. These research findings are expected to contribute to energy conservation and performance improvement in smart farming.
High level of accuracy in forecasting heat demand of each district is required for operating and managing the district heating efficiently. Heat demand has a close connection with the demands of the previous days and the temperature, general demand forecasting methods may be used forecast. However, there are some exceptional situations to apply general methods such as the exceptional low demand in weekends or vacation period. We introduce a new method to forecast the heat demand to overcome these situations, using the linearities between the demand and some other factors. Our method uses the temperature and the past 7 days' demands as the factors which determine the future demand. The model consists of daily and hourly models which are multiple linear regression models. Appling these two models to historical data, we confirmed that our method can forecast the heat demand correctly with reasonable errors.
Steel in a continuous reheat furnace is heated to higher temperature to be treated in the rolling steel process. Due to this reason the continuous reheat furnace system requires an optimal control system to adjust the temperature inside the furnace. Level 2 control systems for continuous reheat furnaces generate automatic heating set points for the level 1 system of the furnace based on the mathematical thermal model which can give a good estimation of steel heating inside the furnace and is used to adjust heating requirements to optimize furnace combustion. For the current study the analytic methodology based on the design procedure from the systems engineering to develop new level 2 control system of a continuous reheat furnace was proposed. The system analysis and the requirements of the level 2 control system were derived using the unified modeling language (UML) 2.0, and the design of database and the graphic user interface (GUI) for the level 2 control system were conducted.
Unlike the previous approaches, we analyzed for economic efficiency of renewed heating and cooling systems as the characteristics of space. The purpose of this study is to analysis the energy consumption and economical efficiency of absorption chillers and EHP systems in renovated library. It is important that equipment selection should be considering energy cost as well as space program. In recently, many EHP systems were installed in the building for reducing the energy cost and for seeking the convenience of individual control. In contrast, though absorption chillers have the disadvantage of a central control, absorption chillers are appropriate for the conditions of the library that needs simultaneous operation. The results by payback period method, show that selection of heating and cooling systems should be consider for space program and the characteristics of space.
In 1937, most Korean compatriot who lived in Yunhaeju moved to Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in Central Asia following the deportation policy of Russia. Korean compatriot have kept their traditional life style for 140 years, without a deep relationship with Korea. This study examined the heating systems of Korean compatriot in Yunhaeju, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, Russia. A literature review and field research, based on Ethnography as a research method, was employed. The results of the research were as following: 1) Korean compatriot in Yunhaeju use a Pechika, which is a radiator that uses hot water, and a Gudul as the main heating systems, but the use of a Pechika was most common. A Pechika functions for cooking as well as for warming the house. The room with the Gudul was connected to the kitchen, so this space was used as a place for cooking and eating, for family members to meet. Many kinds of fuel, like gas and electricity, were used to power the heating systems. 2) Korean compatriot in Kazakhstan use radiators, with hot water as the main heating system, with ratio using Gudul used in this region being the highest of all the three areas. The most common fuels used for a Gudul were wood and coal, and gas was also used in cooking. The room with the Gudul was planned to be located beside the fireplace, without any walls. The people using a Gudul use that place for eating and meeting, as well as for family members to sleep. 3) The main heating system of Korean compatriot in Uzbekistan was a radiator using hot water, and those with pipes containing hot water buried under the floor were very common. The function is very similar to that of a Gudul, so most people using this type of radiator would sleep on the floor. Those people with a traditional Gudul not using them were mostly in Uzbekistan. The reason for this was that the family members had diminished, so it was hard work for elderly parents to manage an extra building containing a Gudul. Gas was the fuel generally used for heating and cooking in Uzbekistan. 4) Guduls were used in the Korean compatriot's houses in all three areas, even though they have changed in structure to adapt to the Russian life style. However, Guduls have still been functioning to maintain a traditional life style in Korean compatriot's houses for the gathering of family members.
Geothermal heat pump (GHP) systems have become an efficient alternative to conventional cooling and heating methods due to their higher energy using efficiency. These systems use the ground as a heat source in heating mode operation and a heat sink in cooling mode operation. The aim of this study is to evaluate the heating performance of the GHP system for a residential building ($420m^2$) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. In order to demonstrate the feasibility of a sustainable performance of this system, we installed the water-to-water geothermal heat pump with ten vertical ground heat exchangers and measured operation parameters from October 19, 2013 to March 26, 2014. The results showed that the entering source temperature of brine from the ground heat exchangers was in a range of the design target temperature of $-10^{\circ}C$ for heating. For total values of the representative results, the ground heat exchangers extracted heat of 53.51 MWh from the ground. In addition, the GHP system supplied heat of 83.55 MWh to the building and consumed power of 30.27 MWh. Consequently, the average heating seasonal performance factor ($SPF_h$) of the overall system was evaluated to be 2.76 during the measurement period of the heating season.
Building energy consumption takes up almost 25% of the total energy consumption. Therefore, diversified ways, such as improving wall and window insulation, have been considered to reduce building energy consumption. Recently, green roof system has been explored as an effective alternative for dealing with reducing heating and cooling energy, thermal island effect and improving water quality. However, recent studies regarding a green roof system have only focused on building energy reduction without considering the applied usage, location, and story of the green roof system. Therefore, this study pays attention to the heating and cooling energy in relation to the applied usage, location, and story of a green roof system for investigating its impact on energy reduction. The result of simulations show that the reduction in heating energy consumption is higher when applied to Cherwon-gun province which has a continental climate condition, compared to the city of Busan that is distinguished by its warm climate. Cooling energy saving turns out to be higher when the green roof system is applied to Busan in comparison with Cherwon. As for the applied usage or function of the building, residential space acquires the highest heating and cooling energy saving effect rather than commerce, educational or office space because of HVAC's running time based on usage. When it comes to the story of the green roof, both heating and cooling energy saving become the highest when the green roof is applied to single-storied buildings. The reason is that single story building is affected by the ground largely. Generally, the variations of heating energy consumption are larger than the cooling energy consumption. The outcome of the simulations, when a green roof system is applied, indicates that the energy consumption reduction rate is dynamically responding to the applied usage, location, and story. Therefore, these factors should be counted closely for maximizing the reduction of energy consumption through green roof systems.
The research analyzes the arrangement of boiler and hot water header, the method of radiator pipe setting, hot water supply control, hourly heating situation of each room for underfloor radiant heating systems in Korea and suggests an alternative to improve to efficient heating method. One of the best options for install position of hot water distributor is under kitchen sink which is center point of all rooms, according to previous research of the energy saving strategies. When the radiator pipes are arranged to each individual room instead of bedrooms through livingroom and kitchen, it has energy saving effects. For rooms without occupancy according to a time period, hot water supply method should be intermittent heating rather than continuous heating. For this intermittent heating method, individual control of hot water supply is more practical, and it can lead to massive energy savings. The intermittent heating system has time-lag, so it is more effective in energy saving with mild and comfort condition if the spaces are preheated by automatic control equipment prior to required time.
How to plan the energy system is one of the keys f3r constructing the Environment -Friendly City. for this reason, a great number of surveys for utilizing unused energy have conducted by a planner. In regard to unused energy, the heat from incineration plants classify as a unused energy having high-exergy-energy. From this point of view, It is studied about the plant systems providing heat to district heating & cooling(D.H.C) and producing electric power. It is divided four system models as system I (10K [kgf/cm$^2$) vapor as outlet of boiler, supply far 10K vapor and return to 60$^{\circ}C$ as supply condition of district heating), system II (30 K vapor as outlet of boiler, supply for 5t vapor and return to 60f as supply condition of district heating), system 111 (30 K vapor as outlet of boiler, supply for 85$^{\circ}C$ hot water and return to 60$^{\circ}C$ as supply condition of district heating), system IV (30 K vapor as outlet of boiler, supply for 47$^{\circ}C$ hot water and return to 40t as supply condition of district heating). The results from the upper condition of four system, System II got a proper on economical benefits and system IV calculated as benefiting on energy saving effects, and suggest indifference curve as the total evaluation method of both economical benefits and energy saving.
