The chemorheological changes and kinetics during curing reaction of an silica filled epoxy system (DGEBA with curing agent Polyxoypropylenediamine) were investigated. This study concentrates on the influence of silica on the reaction kinetics and rheological behavior of the eopxy system. The concentration of the filler was varied 0~200phr. Curing behavior of the silica filled epoxy system was measured at various heating rates with DSC. Conversion was also measured by integrating the obtained DSC curve and Kinetic parameters measured by using the nonlinear regression method. DSC experiments showed that the presence of silica was found to accelerate the progress of the curing reaction and of reduce the heat of reaction compared with that of unfilled epoxy systems . Rheological experiments were conducted on a Physica by using a disposable parallel plate fixture. Material properites were measured such as the elastic modulus(G′), the loss modulus(G"), the loss tangent(tan $\delta$), and the viscosity was at the initial stahe, and the more the silica filler was added, and the lower the gel temperature was in the epoxy system. In this study it is concluded that the curing of the silica filled epoxy system was found to be accelerated, as silica was added to the epoxy compound.
An experiment was performed to obtain the local heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number in a circular duct with a 180$^{\circ}$ bend for Re=6 x 10$^4$, 8 x 10$^4$ and 1 x 10$\^$5/ under swirling flow and non-swirling flow conditions. The test tube with a circular section was made from stainless steel having a curvature ration of 9.4. Current heat flux of 5.11 kW/㎡ was applied to the test tube by electrical power and the swirling motion of air was produced by a tangential inlet to the pipe axis at 180$^{\circ}$. Measurements of local wall temperatures and the bulk mean temperatures of air were made at four circumferential positions at 16 stations. The wall temperatures showed a reduced distribution curve at the bend for the non-swirling flow, but this effect did not appear for the swirling flow. The Nusselt number distributions for the swirling flow, which was calculated from the measured wall and the bulk temperatures, were higher than that of the non-swirling flow. The average Nusselt number of the swirling flow increased by about 90-100%, compared to that of the non-swirling flow. The Nu/Nu$\_$DB/ values at the 90$^{\circ}$ station for non-swirling flow and swirling flow were approximately 2.5 and 4.8 at Re=6x10$^4$ respectively. The values agree well with Said's results for non-swirling flow.
In this study, the highly sensitive $CaSO_4:Tb$ glass capsule type TLDs are fabricated and their trap parameters are determined. The optimum conditions of fabricating of $CaSO_4:Tb$ phosphor was obtained to be in impurity concentration of Tb 1.0 mol% and sintering of $600^{\circ}C$, 2 hr. The glow curve of $CaSO_4:Tb$ consists of three glow peaks and these peaks are isolated by thermal bleaching method. Activation energy of the three glow peaks measured by the initial rise, the peak shape and the heating rate method are 0.70, 0.87, and 1.03 eV. The frequency factors are $1.76{\times}10^9,\;1.74{\times}10^9$, and $9.77{\times}10^8\;s^{-1}$, and the kinetic orders are 1.12, 1.46, and 1.34, respectively. The isolated glow peaks are fitted by least square method and optimum temperature range of the main peak for radiation dosimetry is $230{\sim}295^{\circ}C$.
Deck plates of ships or offshore structures would make out-of-plane distortion for their thin thickness. These distortions are usually straightened by thermal straightening such as flame heating method. After thermal straightening, the blocks are lifted and moved by cranes to assemble it at dry-dock stage. After this lifting process, out-of-plane deformation again happens frequently. And then, they continuously cause quality and accuracy problems in the final dry-dock process. So, it takes more time for repair and correction working. According to preceding research, the lifting process by cranes would offset the effect on thermal straightening. The target of this study is to develop a methodology analyzing the remaining efficiency of thermal straightening after block lifting. The development was based on the assumption of yield state at straightening region. Therefore the remaining efficiency was obtained by different stiffness slope while lifting & relieving. The efficiency formula was designed using inherent strain, and we made a table of zero-efficiency by cooling speed and class rule's steels. As a result, if the stress orthogonal to straightened line is calculated during lifting analysis by FEA, the efficiency can be obtained linearly to the values in the table. Finally, even optimized carling position can be designed by considering the regional data from series project and welding region on deck.
The study presents structural integrity assessment of ductility degradation of a baffle former assembly by performing finite element analysis considering real loading conditions and stress triaxiality. Variations of fracture strain curves of type 304 austenitic stainless steel with stress triaxiality are derived based on the previous study results. Temperature distributions during normal operation such as heat-up, steady state, and cool-down are calculated via finite element temperature analysis considering gamma heating and heat convection with reactor coolant. Variations of stress and strain state during long operation period are also calculated by performing sequentially coupled temperature-stress analysis. Fracture strain is derived by using the fracture curve and the stress triaxility. Finally, variations of ductility degradation damage indicator with the fracture strain and the equivalent inelastic strain are investigated. It is found that maximum value of the ductility degradation damage index continuously increases and becomes 0.4877 at 40 EFPYs. Also, the maximum value occurs at top and middle inner parts of the baffle former assembly before and after 20 EFPYs, respectively.
A study was conducted to examine the precipitation phenomena of Al-2.1Li-2.9Cu alloy by differential scanning calorimetry and transmission electron microscopy. DSC curves were measured over the temperature range of $25{\sim}550^{\circ}C$ at a heating rate of $2{\sim}20^{\circ}C$/min.. Three heat evolution peaks and three heat absorption peaks were observed in the DSC curve for the as-quenched specimen. From DSC results and TEM analysis, it was proved that the precipitation sequence in the as-quenched specimen is supersaturated solid solution ${\rightarrow}$ GP zone ${\rightarrow}{\delta}^{\prime}{\rightarrow}T_1{\rightarrow}T_2$ and ${\theta}^{\prime}$ was detected in the peak aged specimen at $160^{\circ}C$. The major phase formed at peak hardeness in the aging at $160^{\circ}C$ was ${\delta}^{\prime}$ phase. The activation energies for the formation of ${\delta}^{\prime}$ and $T_1$ phases were 22.3kcal/mole and 24.3kcal/mole, respectively. These lower activation energies than those for diffusion of Cu and Li in Al are ascribed to the quenched-in excess vacancies.
This paper presents experimental investigations of the fundamental behavior of concrete filled steel tube (CFT) beam-columns under fire loading. A total of thirteen specimens were tested to determine the axial force-moment-curvature-temperature behavior of CFT beam-columns. The experimental approach involved the use of: (a) innovative heating and control equipment to apply thermal loading and (b) digital image correlation with close-range photogrammetry to measure the deformations (e.g., curvature) of the heated region. Each specimen was sequentially subjected to: (i) constant axial loading; (ii) thermal loading in the expected plastic hinge region following the ASTM E119 temperature-time T-t curve; and (iii) monotonically increasing flexural loading. The effects of various parameters on the strength and stiffness of CFT beam-columns were evaluated. The parameters considered were the steel tube width, width-tothickness ratio, concrete strength, maximum surface temperature of the steel tube, and the axial load level on the composite CFT section. The experimental results provide knowledge of the fundamental behavior of composite CFT beam-columns, and can be used to calibrate analytical models or macro finite element models developed for predicting behavior of CFT members and frames under fire loading.
Resistance spot welding of aluminum alloys is based upon Joule heating of the components by passing a large current in a short duration. Since aluminum alloys have the potential to replace steels fur automobile body assemblies, it is important to study the process robustness of aluminum spot welding process. In order to evaluate the effects of process parameters on the weld quality, major process variables and abnormal process conditions were selected and analyzed. A newly developed two-stage, sliding-level experiment was adopted fur effective parameter design and analysis. Suitable ranges of welding current and button diameters were obtained through the experiment. The effects of the factors and their levels on the variation of acceptable welding current were considered in terms of main effects. From the results, it is concluded that any abnormal process condition decreases the suitable current range in the weld lobe curve. Pareto analysis of variance was also introduced to estimate the significant factors on the signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio. Among the six factors studied, fit-up condition is found to be the most significant factor influencing the SM ratio. Using a Pareto diagram, the optimal condition is determined and the SM ratio is significantly improved using the optimal condition.
In the steel production line, the molten metal of a furnace is transformed into billet and then moves to the heating furnace of the hot rolling mill. This paper describes about the development of recognition system for the characters, which was marked at the billet material by use template-marking plate and hand written method, in the steel plant. For the recognition of template-marked characters, we propose PSVM algorithm. And for the recognition of hand written character, we propose combination methods of CCD algorithm and PSVM algorithm. The PSVM algorithm need some more time than the conventional KLT or SVM algorithm. The CCD algorithm makes shorter classification time than the PSVM algorithm and good for the classification of closed curve characters from Arabic numerals. For the confirmation of algorithm, we have compared our algorithm with conventional methods such as KLT classifier and one-to-one SVM. The recognition rate of experimented billet characters shows that the proposing PSVM algorithm is 97 % for the template-marked characters and combinational algorithm of CCD & PSVM is 95.5 % for the hand written characters. The experimental results show that our proposing method has higher recognition rate than that of the conventional methods for the template-marked characters and hand written characters. By using our algorithm, we have installed real time character recognition system at the billet processing line of the steel-iron plant.
