Infrared Transmitting Glass Ceramics for Passive and Active Applications

  • Glass-ceramics transparent above $10\;{\mu}m$ in the infrared, have been synthesized. They are based on germanium and antimony sulphides or selenides associated to alkali halides. They are prepared by heating glass samples at temperatures above the glass transition, as a function of time. Ceramisation can be controlled, so that sub-100 nm crystals are generated in the glass matrix. Then, low light scattering is achieved and the transparency window of the original glass is maintained. When gallium sulphide is added, glass ceramics can be doped with rare-earth ions. Emissions from the $^4F_{3/2}$ and $^4I_{13/2}$ of $Nd^{3+}$ and $Er^{3+}$ ions, respectively, are more intense in glass-ceramics, as compared to their vitreous counterpart. Examination of band profiles and decaytimes show that rare-earth ions are embedded in both crystalline and glassy environments.

  • In this paper, we established baseline information and insight on residual stress relief mechanism associated with furnaced and local PWHT(post weld heat treatment) operation. Based on FEM analysis results, we suggested that furnaced PWHT stress relief mechanism was based on creep relaxation and local PWHT stress relief mechanism involved complicated interactions between plasticity and creep. In case of furnaced PWHT, significant stress relaxation was occurred in the early stage of PWHT. In case of local PWHT, stress relaxation magnitude was increased as PWHT time increased. Finally, We have proposed that detailed furnaced and local PWHT procedure, and qualification criteria to support current codes of practices.

CARS 측정 기술을 이용한 스파크 점화 기관에서의 화염 전 화학 반응에 의한 온도 변화에 관한 연구 (A Study of the Temperature Elevation Due to the Pre-flame Reaction in a Spark-Ignition Engine Using CARS Technique)

  • End-gas temperatures were measured using CARS technique in a conventional DOHC spark- ignition engine fueled with PRF80. The measured pressure data were analyzed using band pass filter method. The measured CARS temperatures were compared with adiabatic core temperatures calculated from measured pressures. Significant heating by pre-flame reaction in the end gas zone was observed in the late part of compression stroke under both knocking and non-knocking conditions. CARS temperatures measured at 10 crank angle degree before knock occurrence was higher than adiabatic core temperatures. These results indicate that there exist some exothermic reactions in low pressure and temperature region. CARS temperatures began to be higher than the adiabatic core temperature when the end-gas temperatures reached look. The temperature elevation due to the pre-flame reaction correlated better with CARS temperature than with cylinder pressure.

태양전지용 CdS 박막의 열처리에 따른 전기 및 광학적 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Electrical and Optical Properties of CdS Thin Film by Annealing for Solar Cell)

  • In this paper, CdS thin films well-known to window layer for solar cell were fabricated by means of vacuum evaporation method treated with different substrate heating. During film fabrication the substrates were heated at 50, 75 and $100^{\circ}C$, respectively. The thin films were then annealed at $200^{\circ}C$ in atmosphere, and the electrical and optical properties were investigated. By annealing, the hexagonal structure of films was changed into cubic structure. Their transmissivity was also increased and moved to longer wave band. It was shown that the film fabricated with the substrate heat-treated at $50^{\circ}C$ had the lowest resistivity.

  • As the necessity of increasing the midnight base load is extensively increased, electric power companies have to increase the demand of midnight electrical power by lowering the electrical charge rate at midnight. One of the most widely used midnight equipments is the heat Storage type's electrical boiler. A Single chip microprocessor controller for the heat-storage type's electrical boiler is developed. This controller call reduce the undesirable peak load at the begining of midnight (i.e.11 P.M.) time band by using backward load control method. Futhermore, this controller enables reservation of heat storge and the effective heating control the field test has been done by use the boiler for 66$m^2$ with the heater of 21KW quality.

  • Specimens of Ti-10Ta-10Nb have been hot upset forged after heating to either the $\alpha$+$\beta$ and $\beta$-phase field. The variety temperatures (At 650, 700, 750, 800, 85$0^{\circ}C$) and strain rates (At 0.001, 0.01. 0.1, 1, 10 $s^{-1}$ ) were used. On the basis of flow stress data obtained as a function of temperature and strain rate in compression, a processing map for hot working has been developed. At strain rates lower than about 0.1 $s^{-1}$ and almost temperatures, processing efficiency exhibited high, but at 0.001 $s^{-l}$, and temperature 80$0^{\circ}C$, low because the Shear band has occurred. On the basis of the processing map, the optimum processing routes available for hot working of this material are outlined.d.

자기신호처리 적외선 감지소자의 온도효과를 고려한 해석적 모델 (An analytical model considering temperature effects in self-signal processing infrared detectors)

  • A theoretical self-consistent thermoelectric model has been developed for optimal thermal design in the self-signal processing infraed detectors. The model is achived by employing the coupled thermoelectric equation which allows which allows the simultaneous investigation of the termal and electrical aspects of device behavior. The thermal limitation of detectivity and responsivity are determined by the enegy gap, carrier concentration, lifetime, and mobility as a function of the temperature. The calculated results indicate that the detectivity is decreased at bias fields above about 50 V/cm, because the performence is limiting by temperature when the bias voltage reached the level associated with Joule heating. It has been also found that the improvement in the mid-band modulation transfer function(MTF) may be restricted by increasing the bias fields. Further, the important paramerers in the thermal optimization of SPIR detector, such as temperature in the device, ambipolar velocity, element thickness and length, are also considered. The analytical study provides a mathematical basis for optimal design of such a photoconductive IR detector and the agreement between the experimental and theoretical results are seen to be good.

  • This paper presents a new efficient method for transient analysis in magnetodynamic systems of linear eddy current problems. This mehtod employs the Fourier transform and the high-order frequency sensitivity of harmonic finite element method. By taking into account the time-constant of magnetodynamic system, the Fourier integral of continuous frequency is converted into the Fourier series of discrete frequency. And with the results of Fourier series expansion of converted input wave form, the responses of each sinusoids is superposed to give the total response of the magnetodynamic systems. But, if the frequency band of input wave form is broad, it takes long computational time since all responses for each sinusoids must be calculated. Therefore, the high-order frequency sensitivity method is employed to estimate the response variation to frequency. The proposed algorithm is applied to an induction heating system to validate its numerical efficiency.

  • The ignition of aluminum particles under high pressure and temperature conditions is studied. The laser ablation method is used to generate aluminum particles exposed to pressures ranging between 0.35 and 2.2 GPa. A continuous wave $CO_2$ laser is then used to heat surface of the aluminum target until ignition is achieved. We confirm ignition by a spectroscopic analysis of AlO vibronic band of 484 nm wavelength. The radiant temperature is measured with respect to various pressures for tracing of required heating energy for ignition. Then the ignition temperature is deduced from the radiant temperature using the thermal diffusion equation. The established ignition criteria for corresponding temperature and pressure can be used in the modeling of detonation behavior of heavily aluminized high explosives or solid propellants.
