Cobalt ferrite thin films on Corming glass substrate were fabricated by a sol-gel method. Cobalt ferrite thin films with the grain size of 20-35 nm and thickness of 50nm were obtained. Rapid thermal annealing (RTA) and Annealing processes were adopted for comparison of characteristics of the films. Coercivity values were changed with thermal condition and magnetization values were increased as a function of soaking time. With prolonged soaking time, however, it was decreased because of the diffusion of cations from the glass substrate. The RTA process in preparation of cobalt ferrite thin film was the effective way to prevent and to form a single spinel phase in reduced soaking time. The film heated at 600$^{\circ}C$ for 30 minutes by RTA had coercivity of 2,600 Oe, saturation magnetization 460 emu/㎤, and Mr$.$$\delta$ of 1.43 memu/$\textrm{cm}^2$.
Glasses of different compositions were synthesized by substituting each component of 56ZrF4-14BaF2-6LaF3-4AlF3-20NaF(ZBLAN) with HfH4, SrF2, GdF3, InF3 and LiF3, each of similar size and chemical property with the component being substituted, respectively. The heating rate used in the DSC runs was 10K/min. All ofthe glasses exhibit glass transition temperatures of 510$\pm$10K, while crystallization temperatures vary between 625 and 720K depending upon different glass compositions. For most glasses crystallization temperatures obtained while cooled are lower than those obtained while heated, but InF3 or SrF2 containing glasses showed opposite trend. HBLAN, ZHBLAN and ZHBLANLi glasses, which were made by substituting HfH4, LiF for ZrF4 and NaF of ZBLAN respectively, showed improvement in the glass stability.

This study incorporates fine waste glass (GS) as a replacement for natural sand (NS) in fly ash (FA) based alkali activated mortar (AAm). AAms were heated at elevated temperature of 200℃, 400℃, 600℃, and 800℃ to explore the residual mass, compressive strength, thermal expansion and change in microstructure of matrix. Results showed greater resistance of AAms with increasing GS content to 50% at each temperature. Owing to the melting of GS at 800℃, the greater matrix bond was observed for AAm incorporating 75% and 100% GS as a result, the residual compressive strength was increased.

COG (Chip on Glass) technology using solder bump reflow has been investigated to attach IC chip directly on glass substrate of LCD panel. As It chip and LCD panel have to be heated to reflow temperature of the so]der bumps for COG bonding, it is necessary to use low-temperature solders to prevent the damage of liquid crystals of LCD panel. In this study, using the Sn-52In solder bumps of $40{\mu}m$ pitch size, solder joints between Si chip and glass substrate were made at temperature below $150^{\circ}C$. The contact resistance of the solder joint was $8.58m\Omega$, which was much lower than that of the joint made using the conventional ACF bonding technique. The Sn-52In solder joints with underfill showed excellent reliability at a hot humid environment.
Li2O-Al2O3-SiO2 system glasses contained P2O5, TiO2 and ZrO2as the nucleating agents were melted and formed. The glass was subsequently heated first to nucleate and then to grow the crystals. At constant nucleating agent content the base glass compositions were varied and the influences of these variations on the crystallization behaviour were investigated. The study was made by measurement of thermal expansion coefficient, differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron microscope observation and transmission measurement of crystallized glass specimen in visible region. It was shown that the content of crystalline phase decreased with increasing SiO2 content as well as decresing Li2O in the base glass compositions. As the result of X-ray diffrection analysis, the major crystal was $\beta$-quartz solid solution. The degree of crystallinity which was calculated using the noncrystalline scattering methods increased in S-shape with increasing heat treatment time. This change was similar to that in thermal expansion coefficient. The transmissions of 5mm thick samples were 80-90% in visible ray region.

The paste on the glass or fabrication of the PDP(Plasma Display Panel) barrier rib was selectively etched using focused A $r_{+}$ laser(λ=514 nm) and Nd:YAG(λ=532, 266 nm) laser irradiation. The depth of the etched grooves increase with increasing a laser fluence and decreasing a laser beam scan speed. Using second harmonic of Nd:YAG laser(532 nm) the etching threshold laser fluence was 6.5 mJ/c $m^2$ for the sample of PDP barrier rib. The thickness of 180 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of the sample on the glass was clearly removed without any damage on the glass substrate by fluence of 19.5J/c $m^2$beam scan speed of 20${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ /s. In order to increase the etch rate of the barrier rib material barrier rib samples heated by a resistive heater during laser irradiation. The heated sample has many defects and becomes to be fragile. This imperfection of the structure compared to the sample without heat treatment allows the effective etching by the focused laser beam. The etch rates were 65${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/s and 270 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/s at room temperature and 20$0^{\circ}C$, respectively.y.

Borosilicate glass was prepared in the composition of 81% $SiO_2$, 4% $Na_2O$, 2% $Al_2O_3$, 13% $B_2O_3$. The albite phase($NaAlSi_3O_8$) increased with the $ZrO_2$(0~10wt.%) addition. For measurement of glass transition temperature($T_g$), crystallization temperature($T_{c,max}$) measured by differential thermal analysis. The $T_g$ and $T_{c,max}$ were $510{\sim}530^{\circ}C$$650{\sim}670^{\circ}C$, respectively. The crystallized glass was heated at various conditions(temperature, time). After nucleation at $550^{\circ}C$ for 2hours prior to crystal growth at $650^{\circ}C$ for 4hours, the resulting Vickers hardness, fracture toughness and bending strength were about $736H_v$, $1.0779MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, and 493MPa, which were 17%, 45% and 149% higher than parent borosilicate glass, respectively. Crystal size and transmittance of crystallized borosilicate glass were analyzed by FE-SEM, EDX and UV-VIS-NIR spectrophotometer. Transmittance of crystallized borosilicate glass was decreased with increasing $ZrO_2$(wt%) at visible-range. The results prove that light-weight bulletproof can be fabricated by the crystallization of borosilicate glass.

To improve pool boiling heat transfer in an vertical annulus with closed bottoms, the length of an outer tube has been changed from 0.2m to 0.6m. For the test, a heated tube of 19.1mm diameter and water at atmospheric pressure have been used. Annular conditions are made using glass tubes fabricated around the heated tube. The gap size of the annulus is 3.65mm. To elucidate effects of the outer tube length on heat transfer results of the annulus are compared with the data of a single unrestricted tube and the annulus with wider gap size of 6.35mm. Throughout the tests much higher heat transfer coefficients are observed for the annulus of 3.65mm gap size comparing to the other two cases. The change in the outer tube length results in much variation in heat transfer coefficients. Moreover, with shortening the length of outer tube the possibility of the CHF occurrence can be removed.
In this study, the glass fiber drawing from a silica preform in the furnace for the optical fiber manufacturing process is numerically simulated by considering the radiative heating of cylindrically shaped preform. The one-dimensional governing equations of the mass, momentum, and energy conservation for the heated and softened preform are solved as a set of the boundary value problems along with the radiative transfer approximation between the muffle tube and the deformed preform shape, while the furnace heating is modeled by prescribing the temperature distribution of muffle tube. The temperature-dependent viscosity of silica plays an important role in formation of preform neck-down profile when the glass fiber is drawn at high speed. The calculated neck-down profile of preform and the draw tension are found to be reasonable and comparable to the actual results observed in the optical fiber industry. This paper also presents the effects of key operating parameters such as the muffle tube temperature distribution and the fiber drawing speed on the preform neck-down profile and the draw tension. Draw tension varies drastically even with the small change of furnace heating conditions such as maximum heating temperature and heating width, and the fine adjustment of furnace heating is required in order to maintain the appropriate draw tension of 100~200 g.
Mass manufacturing of optical fiber includes the process of very thin glass fiber drawing by heating and softening the high purity silica preform and applying the draw tension on the softened tip of preform neck-down profile in a draw furnace. In this computational study, this process is numerically modeled with simplified geometry of the draw furnace which is comprised of essential parts such as concentric graphite heater, muffle tube, and insulation surrounding the heater. The iterative computational scheme is employed between one-dimensional model of neck-down profile prediction and two-dimensional axisymmetric thermo-fluid CFD computation of radiative heating and working gas convection. The computational results show the experimentally observed neck-down profile in heated section of preform, while yielding the reasonable values of draw tension and heater wattage. Also, this study analyzes and discusses the effects of heating conditions such as heater length and temperature on several important aspects of glass fiber drawing process.
