Against the backdrop of the clear impact of climate change, it has become essential to analyze the influence of climate change and relevant vulnerabilities. This research involved evaluating the impact of heat waves in Seoul, from among many local autonomous bodies that are responsible for implementing measures on adapting to climate change. To carry out the evaluation, the A1B scenario was used to forecast future temperature levels. Future climate scenario results were downscaled to $1km{\times}1km$ to result in the incorporation of regional characteristics. In assessing the influence of heat waves on people-especially the excess mortality-we analyzed critical temperature levels that affect excess mortality and came up with the excess mortality. Results of this evaluation on the impact of climate change and vulnerabilities indicate that the number of days on which the daily average temperature reaches $28.1^{\circ}C$-the critical temperature for excess mortality-in Seoul will sharply increase in the 2050s and 2090s. The highest level of impact will be in the month of August. The most affected areas in the summer will be Songpa-gu, Gangnam-gu, and Yeongdeungpo-gu. These areas have a high concentration of residences which means that heat island effects are one of the reasons for the high level of impact. The excess mortality from heat waves is expected to be at least five times the current figure in 2090. Adaptation plan needs to be made on drawing up long-term adaptation measures as well as implementing short-term measures to minimize or adapt the impact of climate change.
Hot environment can cause unseen economic loss by slowdown of human activities owing to the accumulation of heat stress. The attack of a strong heat wave to the highly populated urban areas was even evaluated to result in the more fatal damages than any other natural disaster such as flooding or blizzards (Changnon et al, 1996). This study has attempted to figure out the effects of the surface heat of perm rods on hair. For this, after forming perm waves, hair damage and its causes have been investigated with a different hair bleach method. If hair was bleached immediately without shampooing after a perm using the heat of rods, great perm waves were formed. However, severe damage was found on the hair because of the heated rods. In addition, when hair was shampooed and dried after the perm, hair bleach was more effective. It has been confirmed that hair was damaged because of high temperature of the surface of the rods. In fact, the heated rods had a direct effect on hair damage. According to these results, it has been confirmed that heat-based perms can accelerate hair damage. Therefore, it is necessary to perform a study on the minimization of the heating of permanent tools.

Global warming has also increased the number of casualties caused by heat-related diseases caused by heat waves along with an increase in global temperature. The vulnerable groups from heat wave damage are outdoor workers and the elderly in particular, and it is necessary to respond the increasing heat wave damage. We propose a real-time control platform in order to reduce casualties of the vulnerable group from heatwaves, this research collects and analyzes user's vital signs data from wearable devices that generates alarms out of the suspected victims who are expected to be affected by heat-related illness and to respond quickly.
Objectives : To explore the possible effect of an interaction between summertime heat waves and ozone on cardiopulmonary mortality during the 1994 heat wave in Korea. Methods : The unusually hot summer of 1994 in Korea was defined as the heat wave in this study. We examined the associations of air pollutants with daily cardiopulmonary deaths between 1991-1995, considering the product term of the heat wave and each pollutant, weather and time trends. Results : During the heat wave, while temperatures were uniformly higher than those of other summers, the within-heat-wave difference in mortality paralleled that in the regional ozone levels. In terms of the influence of the heat wave, the results of ozone were different to those of total suspended particles (TSP) and sulfur dioxide $(SO_2)$. The ozone association (relative risk (RR) : 1.036; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.018-1.054) was observed only under heat wave conditions, while the TSP (RR : 1.006, 95% CI = 0.999-1.012) and the $SO_2$ (RR = 1.018, 95% CI : 1.011-1.024) associations were found under normal weather conditions (per interquartile increase of each pollutant; results of three pollutants model). The ozone association under heat wave was attributable to the statistical interaction between the heat wave and ozone. Conclusions : These results support the possibility of a biological synergy between the heat wave and ozone, one that is not evident between the heat wave and other major pollutants like particles or $SO_2$.

Thermo-acoustic waves can be thermally generated in a compressible flow field by rapid heating and cooling, and chemical reaction near the boundary walls. This mechanism is very important in the space environment in which natural convection does not exist. Also this may be a significant factor for heat transfer when the fluids are close to the thermodynamic critical point. In this study, the generation and transmission characteristics of thermo-acoustic waves in an air-filled confined domain with two-step pulsed heating are studied numerically. The governing equations are discretized using control volume method, and are solved using PISO algorithm and second-order upwind scheme. For the purpose of stable solution, time step was set to the order of $1\times10_-9s,\;and\;grids\;are\;50\times2000$. Results show that temperature and pressure distributions of fluid near the boundary wall subjected to a rapid heating are increased abruptly, and the induced thermo-acoustic wave propagates through the fluid until it decays due to viscous and heat dissipation. Pressure waves have sharp front shape and decay with a long tail in the case of step heating, but these waves have sharp pin shape in the case of pulsed heating.
This article is concerned with a two-dimensional problem of micropolar generalized thermoelasticity for a half-space whose surface is traction-free and the conductive temperature at the surface of the half-space is known. Theory of two-temperature generalized thermoelasticity with phase lags using the normal mode analysis is used to solve the present problem. The formulas of conductive and mechanical temperatures, displacement, micro-rotation, stresses and couple stresses are obtained. The considered quantities are illustrated graphically and their behaviors are discussed with suitable comparisons. The present results are compared with those obtained according to one temperature theory. It is concluded that both conductive heat wave and thermodynamical heat wave should be separated. The two-temperature theory describes the behavior of particles of elastic body more real than one-temperature theory.

Nondestructive evaluation for material health monitoring is important in aerospace industries. Composite laminates are exposed to heat cyclic loading and humid environment depending on flight conditions. Cyclic heat loading and moisture absorption may lead to material degradation such as matrix breaking, debonding, and delamination. In this paper, the moisture absorption ratio was investigated by measuring the Lamb wave velocity. The composite laminates were manufactured and subjected to different thermal aging cycles and moisture absorption. For various conditions of these cycles, not only changes in weight and also ultrasonic wave velocity were measured, and the Lamb wave velocity at various levels of moisture on a carbon-epoxy plate was investigated. Results from the experiment show a linear correlation between moisture absorption ratio and Lamb wave velocity at different thermal fatigue stages. The presented method can be applied as an alternative solution in the online monitoring of composite laminate moisture levels in commercial flights.

As abnormal climates occur due to the increase in greenhouse gases at home and abroad, various problems such as human casualties, crop damage, energy depletion, and economic loss due to heat diseases, which are one of the extreme climate phenomena, are following one after another. In response, the government has established the 'Climate Crisis Response Special Committee' since 2018, when it recorded the greatest damage in history due to heat waves, and has been carrying out budget formation and reform of laws and systems every year to respond to heat waves. However, in relation to the heat wave damage reduction facility that is being expanded with a large budget, there is no prior research related to the degree of heat loss due to the use of the facility, the difference in effects between specific groups, and the economic effect that comes back compared to the invested budget. Therefore, from a midto long-term perspective, it is expected that it will be difficult to establish a clear direction for policy making. Therefore, in this study, representative facilities were selected according to the principle of heat reduction among the currently expanded heat damage reduction facilities, and a questionnaire survey was conducted for users of each reduction facility (waterfall, awning, pond, and elastic pavement). Accordingly, the change in the sense of heat according to the use of the heat damage reduction facility was checked, and the change in the sense of heat according to the group characteristics (gender, age, metabolic rate) was analyzed to examine the characteristics of the relationship between the facility and the users.
Objectives : The aim of this paper was to examine the relationship between the summertime (June to August) heat index, which quantifies the bioclimatic apparent temperature in sultry weather, and the daily disease-related mortality in Seoul for the period from 1991 to 2000. Methods : The daily maximum (or minimum) summertime heat indices, which show synergetic apparent temperatures, were calculated from the six hourly temperatures and real time humidity data for Seoul from 1991 to 2000. The disease-related daily mortality was extracted with respect to types of disease, age and sex, etc. and compared with the time series of the daily heat indices. Results : The summertime mortality in 1994 exceeded the normal by 626 persons. Specifically, blood circulation-related and cancer-related mortalities increased in 1994 by 29.7% (224 persons) and 15.4% (107 persons), respectively, compared with those in 1993. Elderly persons, those above 65 years, were shown to be highly susceptible to strong heat waves, whereas the other age and sex-based groups showed no significant difference in mortality. In particular, a heat wave episode on the 22nd of July 2004 ($>45^{\circ}C$ daily heat index) resulted in double the normal number of mortalities after a lag time of 3 days. Specifically, blood circulation-related mortalities, such as cerebral infraction, were predominant causes. Overall, a critical mortality threshold was reached when the heat index exceeded approximately $37^{\circ}C$, which corresponds to human body temperature. A linear regression model based on the heat indices above $37^{\circ}C$, with a 3 day lag time, accounted for 63% of the abnormally increased mortality (${\geq}+2$ standard deviations). Conclusions : This study revealed that elderly persons, those over 65 years old, are more vulnerable to mortality due to abnormal heat waves in Seoul, Korea. When the daily maximum heat index exceeds approximately $37^{\circ}C$, blood circulation-related mortality significantly increases. A linear regression model, with respect to lag-time, showed that the heat index based on a human model is a more dependable indicator for the prediction of hot weather-related mortality than the ambient air temperature.
