In this study, we tried to describe the quantitative model of TiN film structure which was deposited by PECVD process. The macro-grain growth behavior was studied at the various deposition pressures and times. As a result, It was confirmed that TiN films had the typical Zone 1 structure, and macro-columnar grains were, without reference to the deposition pressure, grown ballistic type by the growth-death competition following the equation, $Y=aX^2$, approximately obtained by regression analysis. Also, the thickness and the crystallization of TiN thin films were increased, the chlorine contents were decreased according to the decreasing of deposition pressure.
The heat treatment charaterristic of SCM 440 and B 16 steels has been investigated in various condition(A, B and C) to the effect of heat treatment on mechanical properties, and the following results were obtained. 1. We are obtained a good nitriding characteristic in bainitic structure than other heat treatment cycle in our experiment. 2. Fatigue characteristic has shown in order of B)C)A condition as heat treatment cycle. 3. The effective hardening depth and fatigue characteristic has been excellented in B 16 than SCM 440 after the nitriding and Q. T for Band C condition. 4. Nitriding depth has been increased in addition of Cr, V and the nitriding efficiency is increased as easiness of banite formation to wide range of cooling rate by addition of Mo. 5. The depth of compound layer in parallel surface, notched slop plane and notched bottom has been varied to the nitriding depth of 5, 4 and 3 ${\mu}$ in relatively uniform pattern after 10h nitriding treatment for SCM 440 into A condition.

In this paper, the effect of solution and age heat treatment to the corrosion behavior for the Ti-6Al-4V alloy were studied by cyclic polarization methods. Ti-6Al-4V was solution heat treated at $1,066^{\circ}C$ and $966^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours, and followed by age heat treated at $650^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$ and $550^{\circ}C$ with 1, 2, 4, 8 and 16 hours under vacuum environment. Test solution was 3.5% NaCl with temperature $25^{\circ}C$. The obtained results were as follows: 1. Base metal was exhibited higher electrical charge than that of solution and aged material. With decrease of solution-treatment temperature from 1066 to $966^{\circ}C$, the electrical charge was increased due to softening of micro structure. 2. The corrosion resistance of specimen that solution treated at $966^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours and age heat treated at 650, 660 and $550^{\circ}C$ were increased with increase of aging time to 4, 8 and 16 hours respectively, and then decreased. 3. In case of 316L stainless steel, measured charge and corrosion potential was 0.0627 coulomb and -614 mV respectively. Corrosion resistance of Ti-6Al-4V was higher than that of 316L.

Recently, silk sericin has attracted attention because of its unique properties as a biomaterial, including its UV resistance, moisturizing effect on skin, and wound-healing effect. Therefore, the preparation of sericin in various forms such as gel, film, fiber, and sponge is studied for cosmetic and biomedical applications, and the effect of the preparation conditions on the structure and properties of sericin forms is examined to maximize its performance. In this study, silk sericin films were prepared under different preparation conditions and heat-treated at high temperatures ($100-250^{\circ}C$) to examine the effect of heat treatment on the film structure. The order of the crystallinity index of the untreated sericin film is as follows: F25 (sericin film cast from formic acid) > WE25 (ethanol treated sericin film cast from water at $250^{\circ}C$) > W25 (sericin film cast from water at $250^{\circ}C$) > W100 (sericin film cast from water at $100^{\circ}C$). As the heat-treatment temperature was increased, the color of the sericin films changed gradually from colorless to yellow, brown, and black depending on the temperature. The crystallinity of the sericin film changed after the heat treatment, depending on the preparation condition. Whereas a sericin film cast from formic acid (F25) started to lose its crystallinity at $200^{\circ}C$, thus undergoing the highest loss of crystallinity among the sericin films studied, the rest (W25, WE25, and W100) showed a decrease in crystallinity at $250^{\circ}C$, owing to the disruption of the ${\beta}$-sheet crystallites due to heat.

When high carbon steel is heated in an appropriate austenizing temperature range and subjected to austempering, the size and shape of lamellar structure can be controlled. The high carbon steel sheet having the pearlite structure has excellent elastic characteristics because it has strong restoring force when properly rolled, and is applied in a process known as patenting-process using lead bath. In the case of isothermal treatment using lead-medium, it is possible to quickly reach a uniform temperature due to high heat transfer characteristics, but it is difficult to replace it with process technology that requires treatment to remove harmfulness lead. In this study, we intend to develop fluidization technology using garnet powder to replace the lead medium. After heating the high-carbon steel, the cooling rate was changed by compressed air to the vicinity of the nose of the continuous cooling curve, and then maintained for 90 s and then exposed to room temperature. The microstructure of the treated specimens were analyzed and compared with the existing products treated with lead bath. The higher the flow rate of compressed air, the faster the cooling rate to the pearlite transformation temperature, so lamellar spacing decreases and the hardness tends to increase.
PURPOSE. To evaluate the effect of various surface treatments on the surface structure and shear bond strength (SBS) of different ceramics. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 288 specimens (lithium-disilicate, leucite-reinforced, and glass infiltrated zirconia) were first divided into two groups according to the resin cement used, and were later divided into four groups according to the given surface treatments: G1 (hydrofluoric acid (HF)+silane), G2 (silane alone-no heat-treatment), G3 (silane alone-then dried with $60^{\circ}C$ heat-treatment), and G4 (silane alonethen dried with $100^{\circ}C$ heat-treatment). Two different adhesive luting systems were applied onto the ceramic discs in all groups. SBS (in MPa) was calculated from the failure load per bonded area (in $N/mm^2$). Subsequently, one specimen from each group was prepared for SEM evaluation of the separated-resin-ceramic interface. RESULTS. SBS values of G1 were significantly higher than those of the other groups in the lithium disilicate ceramic and leucite reinforced ceramic, and the SBS values of G4 and G1 were significantly higher than those of G2 and G3 in glass infiltrated zirconia. The three-way ANOVA revealed that the SBS values were significantly affected by the type of resin cement (P<.001). FIN ceramics had the highest rate of cohesive failure on the ceramic surfaces than other ceramic groups. AFM images showed that the surface treatment groups exhibited similar topographies, except the group treated with HF. CONCLUSION. The heat treatment was not sufficient to achieve high SBS values as compared with HF acid etching. The surface topography of ceramics was affected by surface treatments.
The effect of the thermo-mechanical treatment on the microstructural development and the electric conductivity of Cu-Ca alloys are studied for the thixoforming processed rotor of the induction motor The Cu-Ca alloys containing Ca less than 1.0wt% show the electrical conductivity higher than 80% IACS They also show broad melting range over $150^{\circ}C$ which is desirable for the thixoforming process The semi-solid microstructure of cast alloy changes from the dendrite structure to globular structure by prior deformation before reheating. The details of microstructural changes by the thermo-mechanical treatment are discussed.
Heat treatment which removes internal stress enhances the mechanical properties of the orthodontic arch wire. The main purpose of this experiment was to investigate the effects of the heat treatment on the mechanical properties of the Elgiloy wire. The Elfiloy wire, 0.016' X 0.022' and 0.018' X 0.025', were heat treated in an electric oven for 5, 10 and 15 minutes at selected temperatures between 300 and $900^{\circ}C$. Tensile strength and load deflection rate were measured to reveal the changes of mechanical property at various conditions, and each specimen was observed under metallurgic microscope. Also to trace the precipitation material due to overheat treatment, a qualitative analysis was carried out with EDS system. It was found that heat treatment at a low temperature caused an increase in the tensile strength and bending resistance, and a maintenance in the fibrous in the tensile strength and bending resistance, and a maintenance in the fibrous structure of both sizes of wire. The changes observed in properties and appearance were probably due to the relief of internal stresses incurred in the metal during cold working. In both sizes of wire the tensile strength and the bending resistance continued to decrease at high temperature, and the fibrous structure continued to disappear then was not observed at $900^{\circ}C$. The carbide precipitation founded in grain boundary at $750^{\circ}C$ probably was other elements carbide (Ni, Co) except Cr. The grain growth was observed at $1100^{\circ}C$. Optimum heat treatment for the 0.016' X 0.022' Elgiloy wire was 10 minutes at $500^{\circ}C$, and for the 0.018' X 0.025' Elgiloy wire it was 5 to 15 minutes at $500^{\circ}C$.
In this study, we conducted heat-treatment on freshwater cultured pearls at various conditions in other to improve their color. Also, after heat treatment, we used the UV-Vis, ED-XRF and SEM to investigate changes freshwater cultured pearls' color, composition and internal structure. UV-Vis analysis showed the reflectivity of samples increased at most heat-treatment conditions although the reflectivity decreased at a certain temperature and duration. At $100^{\circ}c$/8 h, $120^{\circ}c$/6 h and $140^{\circ}c$/4 h, the reflectivity increased highest. In proportion to reflectivity increase, freshwater cultured pearls' color was improved. Ca, Mn, Sr and other micro elements were found from ED-XRF analysis. However, changes in composition of elements were not detected. It was found that the content of Mn in freshwater cultured pearl is higher than other micro elements. From SEM analysis, aragonite's shape was shown in narce and some of the narce were condensed after heat treatment.
Objectives: There has been a growing interest in glass ceramic systems with good esthetics, high fracture resistance and bonding durability, and simplified fabrication techniques using CAD/CAM. The aim of this study is to compare flexural strength before and after heat treatment of two lithium disilicate CAD/CAM blocks, IPS e.max CAD (Ivoclar Vivadent) and Rosetta SM (Hass), and to observe their crystalline structures. Materials and Methods: Biaxial flexural strength was tested according to ISO 6872 with 20 disc form specimens sliced from each block before and after heat treatment. Also, the crystalline structures were observed using field-emission scanning microscopy (FE-SEM, Hitachi) and x-ray diffraction (XRD, Rigaku) analysis. The mean values of the biaxial flexural strength were analyzed by the Mann-Whitney U test at a significance level of p = 0.05. Results: There were no statistically significant differences in flexural strength between IPS e.max CAD and Rosetta SM either before heat treatment or after heat treatment. For both ceramics, the initial flexural strength greatly increased after heat treatment, with significant differences (p < 0.05). The FE-SEM images presented similar patterns of crystalline structure in the two ceramics. In the XRD analysis, they also had similar patterns, presenting high peak positions corresponding to the standard lithium metasilicate and lithium disilicate at each stage of heat treatment. Conclusions: IPS e.max CAD and Rosetta SM showed no significant differences in flexural strength. They had a similar crystalline pattern and molecular composition.
