  • The purpose of the study is development and investigation about basic performance of the system operation on a dual fueled cogeneration system(CGS), which is operated with biogas and gas oil. As often seen in dual fueled CGS performance, the electric generating efficiency was obtained about 26□. Methane contained in the biogas could not bum completely at lower load, and it was discharged into exhaust gas. Considerable amount of the methane burned in the exhaust pipe, and the heat recovery ratio was 42□ on heat balance. As a result, the total heat efficiency, which is a summation of generating efficiency and heat recovery efficiency reached to about 70□. The supply of biogas into the engine reduces smoke density and NOx concentration in exhaust gas. At lower load, methane burned slowly and large portion of it was discharged without burning. Therefore the measures are desirable that promotes combustion of methane at lower load.

  • Performance factors such as the EER(Energy Efficiency Ratio) and the COP (Coefficient of Performance) are being replaced by seasonal energy efficiency factors, like the SEER (Seasonal EER) and the SCOP (Seasonal COP) to evaluate the performance of a heat pump by the time of the year. Seasonal performance factors, such as the CSPF (Cooling Seasonal Performance Factor) and the HSPF (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor) are used to describe the heat pump's performance during the cool and hot seasons. In this study, the optimization of all heat pump's operating parameters was experimentally conducted to enhance the SEER based on the EU standard (EN 14825). Moreover, the SEER was improved by the compressor frequency, as well as indoor and outdoor fan speeds. In addition, the performance characteristics of the heat pump were studied under partial load conditions. As a result, the SEER was enhanced by 17% when the compressor frequency was optimized. An additional 2% improvement was achievable with the optimization of indoor and outdoor fan speeds.

  • An one-zone heat release analysis was applied to a 4 cylinder indirect injection diesel engine. The objective of the study is to calculate heat release accurately considering the effect of specific heat ratio. heat transfer and crevice model and to find out combustion characteristics of an indirect diesel engine considering the effect of the pressures in main and swirl chambers. Especially specific heat ratio indicating combustion characteristics is adapted. instead of that indicating matter properties, which has been used in former studies Moreover by adaption of blowby model, cylinder gas mass became accurately calculated. Therefore, with ideal gas equation, calculating cylinder gas temperature, it was found to affect heat transfer loss and heat release. Determining heat transfer constants $C_1$. $C_2$ as 0.6 respectively. the integrated gross heat release values were predicted well for the measured value at various engine speed, full load operating conditions. The curve of heat release rate was similar to SI engine rather than DI engine. That is originated from that swirl chamber reduce an instant combustion which occurs in DI engine due to ignition delay on early stage of combustion.

  • Ground temperature restoration characteristics are the crucial factors to evaluate whether a ground source heat pump system can keep long time steady operation. They are mainly dependent on soil thermal properties, layout of pile group, operation/shutoff ratio, cooling/heating load, thermal imbalance ratio and so on. On the one hand, several types of vertical pile foundation heat exchangers are intercompared to determine the most efficient one by performance test and numerical method. On the other hand, according to the layout of pile group of a practical engineering and running conditions of a GSHP system in Shanghai, the temperature distribution during a period of five years is numerically studied. The numerical results are analyzed and are used to provide some guidance for the design of large-scale GSHP system.

  • In this paper, a method to obtain the probability distribution of room temperature and cooling load is presented, when the internal heat generation is applied to the system as a disturbance in the air conditioning system with slab cooling storage. The probability distribution of room temperature and the cooling load due to the disturbance were examined in one room of an office building. When considering only the electric power consumption as a probability component, it was found that the effect on room temperature and cooling load is small, because the probability component of the measured electric power consumption in the building is small. On the other hand, when considering the stochastic fluctuations of electric power consumption together with the heat generated by human bodies, the mean value of the cooling load was about 2,300 W and the ratio of the standard deviations was 19% (10 o'clock in second day). It was revealed that the stochastic effects of internal heat generation acting on the air conditioning system with slab cooling storage are not small.

  • An one-zone heat release analysis was studied for a 6 cylinder direct injetction compressionignition engine. The heat transfer constants in this anlysis were calibrated to match the measured fuel energy at 1,000 rpm full load, which was the fuel mass multiplied by the fuel's heating value. The integrated gross heat release values were close to the measured fuel energy at various full load operating conditions. The combustion inefficiency from this calculation was proportional to the smoke of exhaust gas.

  • In the gasoline engine industry. there has been a trend towards the development of high performance engines with improved fuel efficiency, reduced weight and smaller sizes. These trends help to solved engine problems related to thermal load and abnormal combustion. In order to investigate these Problems, a thin film-type probe for instantaneously measuring temperatures has been suggested. A method for manufacturing such a probe was established in this study. The instantaneous surface temperature of a constant volume combustion chamber was measured by this probe and the heat flux was obtained through Fourier analysis. A peak instantaneous temperature was obtained after 55∼60 ms from ignition and the temperature increased according to an equivalence ratio and varied differently according to the position of the probe. Total heat loss during combustion period was affected by the equivalence ratio and differed widely in accordance to the position of the probe.

  • Concentric annular heat pipes (CAHP) were fabricated and tested to investigate their thermal characteristics. The CAHPs were 25.4 mm in outer diameter and 200 mm in length. The inner surface of the heat pipes was covered with screen mesh wicks and they were connected by four bridge wicks to provide liquid return path. Three different heat pipes were fabricated to observe the effect of change in diameter ratios between 2.31 and 4.23 while using the same outer tube dimensions. The major concern of this study was the transient response as well as isothermal characteristics of the heat pipe outer surface, considering the application as uniform heating device. A better performance was achieved as the diameter ratio increased. For the thermal load of 180 W, the maximum temperature difference on the outer surface in the axial direction of CAHP was $2.3^{\circ}C$ while that of the copper block of the same outer dimension was $5.9^{\circ}C.$ The minimum thermal resistance of the CAHP was measured to be $0.004^{\circ}C/W.$ In regard to the transient response during start-up, the heat pipe showed almost no time lag to the heat source, while the copper block of the same outer dimensions exhibited about 25 min time lag.
