  • This study analyzed the influence of firing biogas on the performance and operation of a gas turbine combined heat and power (CHP) system. A reference CHP system designed with natural gas fuel was set up and off-design simulation was made to investigate the impact of firing biogas in the system. Changes in critical operating parameters such as compressor surge margin and turbine blade temperature caused by firing biogas were examined, and a couple of operating schemes to mitigate their changes were simulated. Part load operation of the biogas-fired system was compared with that of natural-gas fired system, and it was found that as long as the two system produce the same electric power output, they exhibit nearly the same heat recovery.

  • Purpose: Ground source heat pump system has been attracted in the horticulture industry for the reduction of energy costs and the increasing of farm income. Even though it has higher initial costs, if it uses in combination with heat storage, it is able to reduce the initial costs and operate efficiently. In order to have significant effect of heat storage type ground source heat pump system, it is required to design the capacity considering various conditions such as energy load pattern and operating schedule. Method: In this study, we have designed heat storage type ground source heat pump system in 5 cases by the operating schedule, and examined the system to find the most economic and having superb performance regarding the system COP(Coefficient of Performance) and energy consumption, using dynamic energy simulation, TRNSYS 17. Result: Conventional ground source heat pump system has lower energy consumption than heat storage type, but following the result of LCC(Life Cycle Cost) analysis, the heat storage type was more economic due to the initial costs. In addition, it has the most efficient performance and energy costs in the case of the smallest heat storage time.

  • Within some degree of journal misalignment, maximum pressure, maximum temperature, bearing load, friction and side leakage in high-speed journal bearing operation are examined under the condition of variable density and specific heat. The results are compared with the calculation results under the conditions of constant density and specific heat, and variable density and constant specific heat. It is found that the effects of variable density and specific heat on shaft misalignment are significant in determining the load capacity of a journal bearing operating at high speed.

  • A refrigeration dehumidifier with a recuperative heat exchanger is theoretically analyzed. The recuperative heat exchanger is located between the two air streams from and to the dehumidifying coil, and reduces the sensible heat load in dehumidification process. A simple model is developed to predict performance of the dehumidifier. The model predicts that the recuperative heat exchanger is effective especially in the low humidity condition, where the sensible heat load is relatively large. It is predicted that, by adopting a recuperative heat exchanger, a maximum 30~110% increase in COP is possible for indoor air at $27^{\circ}C$, and 40~60% relative humidity.

  • This experiment was carried out to analyse on the cooling and dehumidifying effects of greenhouse by air-to-water heat pump system employing the air as cooling source. following results were obtained ; 1. The coefficients of performance (COP) of heat pump itself and total heat pump system were approximately 2.71~2.88 and 1.99~2.22, respectively. 2. The night-time cooling load of experimental greenhouse was 64.9 MJ/h, and the heat absorbed (cooling load) from heat pump system was 816.3~1,004.6 MJ/day. 3. The dehumidified moisture amount from experimental greenhouse was 7.0~15.0 kg/h. 4. The night time temperature of experimental greenhouse cooled by heat pump system could be maintained 4~6$^{\circ}C$ lower than that of control greenhouse which was almost equal to outside air temperature.

  • We investigated the heat load imposed on the lower head of a reactor vessel by the natural convection of the oxide pool in a severe accident. Mass transfer experiments using a $CuSO_4-H_2SO_4$ electroplating system were performed based on the analogy between heat and mass transfer. The $Ra^{\prime}_H$ of $10^{14}$ order was achieved with a facility height of only 0.1 m. Three different volumetric heat sources were compared; two had identical configurations to those previously reported, and the other was designed by the authors. The measured Nu's of the lower head were about 30% lower than those previously reported. The measured angular heat flux ratios were similar to those reported in existing studies except for the peaks appearing near the top. The volumetric heat sources did not affect the Nu of the lower head but affected the Nu of the top plate by obstructing the rising flow from the bottom.

  • Fuel cells supply electric power and heat at work, and their exhaust gas is comparatively clear. So they are in the limelight as one of the co-generation systems which behave friendly with the environment. Fuel cells discharge both steam and hot water. Accordingly, if we combine absorption heat pump driven by waste heat with fuel cells, we can construct an advanced energy conserving system. The purpose of this study is the objective for evaluating the possibilities of effectively utilizing waste heat of fuel cells as a heat source for the single and double effect absorption systems. Simulation studies on single and double effect absorption have been performed for water/lithium-bromide pair. The effectiveness of introducing a waste heat source of fuel cells is demonstrated. The result of this study showed that total efficiency was about 85% at rated operation and about 75% at 75% load operation. Absorption cycle moved to more strong concentration when fuel cell operated at 75% load.

And the standard of coefficient of overall heat transmission, location of unit household, indoor air temperature, solar radiation & thermal conduction at window and interior load was selected, and region, expansion or non-expansion of balcony, pyeong type, azimuth, rate of window area was applied as parameter. And then cooling load simulation was performed. Based on the result of simulation, the synthetic district cooling load was presented for selecting heat source of apartment applied district cooling, and unit cooling load was analyzed according to design parameter.
