An experiment was performed to obtain the local heat transfer coefficient and Nusselt number in a circular duct with a 180$^{\circ}$ bend for Re=6 x 10$^4$, 8 x 10$^4$ and 1 x 10$\^$5/ under swirling flow and non-swirling flow conditions. The test tube with a circular section was made from stainless steel having a curvature ration of 9.4. Current heat flux of 5.11 kW/㎡ was applied to the test tube by electrical power and the swirling motion of air was produced by a tangential inlet to the pipe axis at 180$^{\circ}$. Measurements of local wall temperatures and the bulk mean temperatures of air were made at four circumferential positions at 16 stations. The wall temperatures showed a reduced distribution curve at the bend for the non-swirling flow, but this effect did not appear for the swirling flow. The Nusselt number distributions for the swirling flow, which was calculated from the measured wall and the bulk temperatures, were higher than that of the non-swirling flow. The average Nusselt number of the swirling flow increased by about 90-100%, compared to that of the non-swirling flow. The Nu/Nu$\_$DB/ values at the 90$^{\circ}$ station for non-swirling flow and swirling flow were approximately 2.5 and 4.8 at Re=6x10$^4$ respectively. The values agree well with Said's results for non-swirling flow.

The effects of a directionally emitting and reflecting dielectric surface on the wall heat flux and medium temperature distribution are studied. The system is an infinite square duct enclosing an absorbing and emitting medium. The emissivity and reflectivity of opaque and gray wall vary with direction. Combined effect of conductive and radiative heat transfer is analyzed using finite difference and the direct discrete-ordinates method. The parameters under study are conduction to radiation parameter, optical depth, refractive index ratio. The results with directional and diffuse properties deviate each other when the conduction to radiation parameter is less than around 0.01. The wall heat flux differs fur optical thickness less than around 0.1. However, the medium temperature profiles differ for optical thickness greater than around 1. Deviations from diffuse property calculations are larger for hot wall with directional property than cold wall with directional property. As n increases from 1.5, the trend changes are observed fur refractive index ratio about n=6.10

Axisymmetric numerical thermal analysis for a 3-dimensional regenerative cooling system in a rocket engine is carried out. To predict the accurate heat transfer with the stiff temperature distribution, several tests have been conducted for the grid size, the properties variation of the coolant and the combustion gas depending on temperature. The axisymmetric heat flux model is defined using fin efficiencies and is designed to be equivalent to the heat flux of the 3-dimensional coolant channel. For comparison purpose, the 1-dimensional analysis using Bartz equation is also conducted. The performance of the present model in predicting the cooling characteristics of a 3-dimensional regenerative cooling system is compared with the 3-dimensional results of RTE(Rocket Thermal Evaluation). It is found that the present method predicts much closer results to those of RTE code than 1-dimensional analysis.

The physical model of interest is based upon the concentric cylinder, where the outside cylinder is filled with optically thick and high temperature phase change material(PCM). The fluid is flowing through the inside cylinder to transfer the appropriate energy. The fluid is flowing through the inside cylinder to transfer the appropriate energy. The governing equations for the phase change material including internal thermal radiation and for the turbulent transfer fluid have been employed and numerically solved. The optically thick phase change justifies the P-l spherical harmonics approximation, which is believed to be appropriate choice particularly for the much coupled problem like in this study. The solid/liquid interface, temperature distribution within the PCM and the heat flux from the PCM to the transfer fluid have been obtained and compared with those of laminar transfer fluid. The numerical results show that the turbulent transfer fluid accelerates the solid/liquid interface and results in the increase of heat transfer rate from the PCM. The internal thermal radiation within the PCM, however, does not always playa role to increase the heat transfer rate throughout the inside cylinder. It is believed that the combined heat flux has been picked up more in the inflowing area than in the pure conductive phase change material.
An experimental study was conducted to compare the heat transfer characteristics of an impinging slot jet and three kinds of impinging circular jets. Thermochromic liquid crystal with an image processing system was employed to measure the temperature of impinging wall where constant heat flux condition was applied. The distribution of convective heat transfer coefficients were then evaluated for eight nozzle-to-surface distance settings for each jet cases. The cooling effect was linearly proportional to the number of nozzles for circular jet cases at the same nozzle exit speed. However, the heat transfer under constant volume flow rate was the most at single circular jet. It was concluded that the overall convective heat transfer was better at the circular jets than the slot jet.
In this report, the heat transfer model of spray cooling on hot surface was developed by focusing on the effect of rebound motion of droplets. In the model, it was assumed that droplets rebound repeatedly on the hot surface and heat transfer upon droplet impact is proportional to sensible heat which heats up the droplets to the saturation temperature. In addition, to take account of the contribution of th heat flux upon impact of rebound droplets, it was assumed that the rebound droplets are distributed following the Gaussian distribution from 0 to L, which distance L is determined by maximum flight distance $L_{max}$. Also the calculated results were compared with existing experimental results.

During combustion process in a diesel engine radiation heat transfer is the same order of magnitude as the convection heat transfer. An approximation of heat and momentum source distributions is applied at a level consistent with those used in modelling the soot distribution and the turbulence instead of modelling the fuel spray and the chemical kinetics. This paper illustrates a use of the third order spherical harmonics approximation to the radiative transfer equation and delta-Eddington approximation to the scattering phase function for droplets in the flow. Results are obtained numerically by a time marching finite difference scheme. This study aims to compare heat transfer with convection heat transfer and to investigate the importance of scattering by fuel droplets and of accounting for spatial variations in the extinction coefficient on the radiative heat flux distributions at the walls of a disc shaped diesel engine.
The present study deals with CFD analysis of 'The vortex generators on plastic plate heat exchanger'. When a vortex generator is placed on the heat transfer surface, the flow gets more complex because it entails complicated three-dimensional flows such as separation, reattachment, and recirculation. CFX-5.4, a commercial code utilizing unstructured mesh, has been used as a computational method for solving RANS(Reynolds-Averaged Wavier-Stokes) equations, and the applied turbulence model is $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. In addition, those computational analyses were implemented under various conditions , with or without the vortex generator between two plates, the number, form and the size of vortex generator, and different attack of angle. From the calculated temperature, velocity and pressure distribution, vorticity, wall heat flux and so on under those conditions, this study shows the effect of vortex on heat transfer.

In order to understand the laminar flow heat transfer enhancement by the swirl flow, the effects of heat transfer in a circular pipe with a twisted tape insert were investigated experimentally. In the present study, the uniform heat flux condition was considered. The laminar heat transfer correlations were developed using the least-square-fit from the surface temperature distribution of an electrically-heated pipe and flow property data. Average Nusselt number correlations with the twisted tape insert were expressed as a function of swirl parameter, Reynolds number and Prandtl number. In the case of the twisted ratio y = 6.05, the mean Nusselt number increased approximately 500% and the friction factor increased approximately 300%, compared to the case of the empty pipe, respectively.

Local condensation heat transfer coefficients in tubes were calculated by solving momentum and energy equations for annular film with liquid entrainment. The turbulent eddy distribution across the liquid film has been proposed and the calculated heat transfer coefficients were presented. Also turbulent Prandtl number effects on condensation heat transfer were discussed from three Pr$\_$t/ models. Finally, the calculated condensation heat transfer coefficients of R22 were compared with some correlations frequency referred to in open literature. This calculation model considering liquid entrainment predicted well the in-tube condensation heat transfer coefficient of R22 than the model not considering liquid entrainment. The effect of entrainment on heat transfer was predominant for high quality and high mass flux when the liquid film was turbulent.
