Installations of vertical boreholes for the ground source heat pump system are expensive to install. One way to reduce the initial cost is to increase the specific heat extraction rate of borehole system. However, as the specific heat extraction rate increases the temperature of borehole fluid decreases with the resultant lower Coefficient Of Performance in Heating(COPH) of heat pump system. The purpose of this study is to provide the basic informations about the performance of heat pump system with the specific heat extraction rate and soil thermal properties such as thermal conductivity and temperature. It is shown that the specific heat extraction rate is the most important parameter for the ground source heat pump system. To obtain the reasonable COPH value (COPH > 3) the heat extraction rate should be about 25 W/m or less. Accurate measurements of soil thermal properties are also very important to design the system properly. The effects of borehole thermal resistances are also examined in this study.

In this paper, the appropriate thermal storage time of an air-conditioning system with slab thermal storage was considered by use of summer measurement values. Two standards of heat extraction rate and criterion function were established as the standard that evaluates appropriateness. When heat extraction rate was a standard, zero hour and seven hours were obtained as appropriate thermal storage time, in the case of evaluation by energy consumption and running cost individually. Also, when criterion function was a standard, the difference between energy consumption and running cost was small, it was because the weight function to room air temperature deviation was much bigger than heat extraction rate.

Heat pump drying has a great potential for energy saving due to its high energy efficiency in comparison with conventional air drying. In the present study, the performance simulation for the basic design of a heat pump dryer has been carried out. The simulation includes one-stage heat pump cycle, simple drying process using the drying efficiency. As an example, the heat pump cycle with Refrigerant 134a has been investigated. For the operating conditions such as the average temperature of the condenser, the heat rate released in the condenser, the flow rate of drying air, and drying efficiency, the simulation has been carried out to figure out the performance of the dryer. The parameters considered in the design of the dryer are COP, MER, SMER, the rate of dehumidification, the temperature and humidity of drying air and those parameters are compared for different conditions after carrying out the simulation.
The performance of water-to-water heat pump system coupled with the ground source vertical heat exchanger is presented in this paper. The CAP program of Florida Heat Pump Co. is used to predict the heat pump performances while the EED program calculates the borehole fluid temperature. It is shown that COPH increases with decreasing the temperature of output water for the operation of heating mode and COPR increases with increasing temperature of output water for the operation of cooling mode. The value of specific heat extraction rate must be moderate to insure the reasonable installation cost of borehole system. With $1^{\circ}C$decrease of $T_{wo}$ the average COPH increase is estimated as about $0.06/^{\circ}C$(for $T_{wo}\;=\;45{\sim}60^{\circ}C$ range) while with $1^{\circ}C$ increase of $T_{wo}$ the estimation of COPR increase is about $0.13/^{\circ}C$(for $T_{wo}\;= \;5{\sim}11^{\circ}C$ range) at the specific heat extraction rate of 30W/m.

Energy performance of electric heater and geothermal source heat pump type hot air dryers are compared in this study. For set temperatures of $30^{\circ}C$, $35^{\circ}C$ and $40^{\circ}C$, radish is dried from initial mass 60 kg until it gets 5 kg, where the difference equals the amount of water removed. As set temperature is increased, drying time is shortened for both electric heater and heat pump types, however energy efficiency is decreased due to increasing electricity consumption. Moisture extraction rate(MER) of electric heater is 2.58~2.84 kg/h, and for heat pump type 2.56~2.71 kg/h, showing little difference between the two types. Specific moisture extraction rate (SMER) of electric heater is 0.94~0.96 kg/kWh, and for heat pump type 1.72~2.21 kg/kWh. SMER of heat pump type is greater by 0.78~1.25 kg/kWh than the electric heater hot air dryer, which is 1.8~2.3 times better in terms of energy efficiency.

The simulation of a heat pump dryer has been carried out to figure out the effect of air flow rate on the drying performance represented by MER, SMER, and so on. The simulation includes the analyses of one-stage heat pump cycle and simple drying process using the drying efficiency. The heat pump cycle with Refrigerant 134a has been considered. In the dryer, some of drying air from the drying chamber flows through the heat pump system, the rest of air bypasses the heat pump system. The two air flows joins before the drying chamber inlet. The performance parameters considered in the present study are MER, SMER, the temperature and humidity of drying air. Those parameters are compared for different total air flow rate or bypass air flow rate.
Freeze dried antler, heat dried antler, antler were extracted through processing step by water, protease and hydrochloric acid(HCl). Extraction rate of freeze dried antler at 50$^{\circ}C$ by water was 9.01%(8.82, absorbance at 280 nm), that of heat dried antler was 9.01%(4.45, absorbance at 280 nm), and that of antler was 1.10%(0.31, absorbance at 280 nm), respectively. Extraction rate of freeze dried antler by bacterial protease was 16.89%(4.50, absorbance at 280 nm), and that of heat dried antler was 17.29%(5.62, absorbance at 280 nm), and that of antler was 18.22%(0.64, absorbance at 280 nm), respectively. Extraction rate of freeze dried antler by 0.8N HCl was 72.25%(4.60, absorbance at 280 nm), that of heat dried antler was 71.14%(4.70 absorbance at 280 nm), and that of antler was 79.82% (2.80, absorbance at 280 nm), respectively. Extraction rate of freeze dried antler through three processing steps was 98.15%, that of heat dried antler was 97.35%, that of antler was 99.14%, respectively. The result of analysis by HPLC shows that high molecular pe which appears in young antler and antler extraction was changed into a small molecular peak of about 1,000 by the reaction of protease, and protein of about MW 70,000 was extracted from their remaining residue by 0.8N HCl. The above result shows that water extraction and protease extraction in the freeze dried young antler, protease extraction and HCl extraction in dried young antler, and HCl extraction in antler are most effective.
Thermal conductivities (TC) of 57 Jurassic muscovitic granite samples (KIGAM) and 149 porphyritic granite samples (Yeonki: BE-2, BE-3) were measured with LFA-447. Ranges of TC values are $2.429{\sim}3.878$ W/mK (KIGAM), $2.220{\sim}3.767$ W/mK (Yeonki, BE-2) and $2.019{\sim}3.990$ W/mK (Yeonki, BE-3); arithmetic means are 2.924 W/mK (KIGAM), 2.907 W/mK (Yeonki, BE-2), and 2.881 W/mK (Yeonki, BE-3), respectively. In this study, harmonic mean values were calculated to estimate the average value of TC. Harmonic mean values are 2.883 W/mK (KIGAM), 2.886 W/mK (Yeonki, BE-2), and 2.866 W/mK (Yeonki, BE-3), respectively. Heat extraction rates of a borehole heat exchanger strongly depend on TC values. Heat-extraction rates from re values are expected to be a little lower than 84 W/m in all sites. However, considering ground water flow, it is expected that actual heat extraction rate would be higher than the expected value.
The drying model has been used to obtain the fundamental information required to design the heat pump dryer with the simple thermodynamic model. In the model, the input conditions are crucial to obtain the acceptable results. The model includes one-stage heat pump cycle, simple drying process using the drying efficiency. The drying efficiency is defined with the conditions of inlet and outlet in the dryer. The experiment has been carried out in the pilot dryer with one-stage heat pump cycle. Refrigerant 134a is used in the heat pump cycle. In the dryer, some of drying air flows through the heat pump system and the rest of air bypasses the heat pump system and circulates through the drying chamber. Some operating conditions from the pilot dryer are used as input conditions of the model and the results are compared with experimental results for the validation.
Understanding the thermohydraulic processes in the aquifer is necessary for a proper design of the aquifer thermal energy utilization system under given conditions. Experimental and numerical test were accomplished to evaluate the relationship between the geothermal heat exchanger operation and hydrogeological conditions in the open-loop geothermal system. Sand tank experiments were designed to investigate the open-loop geothermal system. Water injection and extract ion system as open-loop borehole heat exchanger was applied to observe the temperature changes in time at injection well, extraction well and ambient groundwater. The thermohydraulic transfer for heat storage was simulated using FEFLOW for two cases of extraction and injection phase operation in sand tank model. As one case, the movement of the thermal plume was simulated with variable locations of injection and extraction well. As another case, the simulation was performed with fixed location of injection and extraction well. The simulation and experimental results showed that the temperature distribution depends highly on the injected water temperature and the length of injection time and the groundwater flow and pumping rate sensitively affect the heat transfer.
