송아지 대장균(大腸菌) Pilus Vaccine 개발(開發)에 관한 연구(硏究): I. 송아지 설사원인(泄瀉原因) 대장균(大腸菌)(K99, F41)의 분포(分布) 및 Pilus 정제시험(精製試驗) (Studies on Development of Escherichia coli Subunit Vaccine against Calf Diarrhea: I. Distribution of Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli and Purification of K99 and F41 Pilus Antigens)

  • The prevalence of diarrhea caused by enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli was surveyed on 445 calves in 6 farms which were located in the central part of Korea. The incidence of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli in calves with diarrhea was investigated by detecting the K99 and F41 antigens from the isolated strains of Escherichia coli The incidence of colibacillosis in calves was 23.3%. Of 238 strains of Escherichia coli isolated from calves with diarrhea, 73 strains(30.6%) were proved possessing the K99 antigen by mannose-resistant hemagglutination(MRHA) using horse red blood cells and 79(33.1%) possessing F41 antigens by MRHA using guinea-pig red blood cells. The minca medium, nutrient broth, tryptic soy broth and brain heart infusion were tested for yield of K99 and F41 pili. The production of pili was greatest in minea medium. The best detachment method of the K99 and F41 pili from the cells was heat treatment for 20 minutes at $60^{\circ}C$ and concentration by precipitation with ammonium sulfate. The purified antigens of K99 and F41 were polypeptides with molecular weights of 18,500 and 29,500, respectively by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

직류 전류 이용 종양세포치료의 특성 연구 (Characterization Analyses for Direct Current Tumor Ablation)

  • 정상 세포로부터 암과 같은 종양세포를 제거하는 방법으로 라디오주파수의 전자파를 이용하여 세포가 사멸되는 임계온도보다 높은 온도로 국소 가열하는 발열 치료법이 임상에서 시술되고 있다. 그러나 이 기술은 임상에서 활발히 사용되기에는 여러 가지 제약 요인이 존재한다. 본 연구에서는 교류파 대신에 미소 직류전원을 사용하여 국소부위에 열을 발생하는 안전성이 증가된 방법의 실효성을 이론적으로 입증하고자 한다. 종양세포의 형태에 따라 적당한 모양의 전극을 종양조직에 삽입하고 종양조직의 형태와 유사한 열분포를 갖도록 제어하는 기술을 개발한다. 열원은 조직 내에 삽입된 전극과 매질에 형성되는 전기장에 의한 저항열이다. 종양 조직 내에 삽입된 전극에 10 V, 20 V, 30 V를 각각 인가하고 시간에 따른 열분포를 전산모의 하였다. 결과적으로, 20 V를 전극에 인가하면 1~2 분 이내에 버섯모양의 등온도 분포를 갖으며 세포를 고사시키는 온도 이상의 치료영역이 형성됨을 보였다. 4개의 전극에 대칭적인 전위를 인가하고 $50^{\circ}C$ 이상의 온도 분포를 암 조직의 모양과 유사하게 분포하도록 조절하여 효과적인 치료를 수행 할 수 있는 가능성을 제시하고자 한다.

아크릴릭 레진 의치상 강화에 관한 실험적 연구 (AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON REINFORCEMENT OF ACRYLIC RESIN DENTURE BASE)

  • The denture may be fractured accidentally by an impact while outside the mouth, or may be cracked or broken while in service in the mouth. The latter is generally a fatigue failure caused by repeated flexure over a period of time. This investigation compared the flexural fatigue resistance, the impact force and the transverse strength of two denture base materials with and without the grid strengthener, the T300, the T800 and the Kevlar fiber to evaluate the fracture resistance. The distribution and behavior of fibers across fracture lines were examined by Hi-Scope Compact Microvision System. Through analyses of the data from this study, the following conclusions were obtained. 1. The flexural fatigue resistance, impact strength and transverse strength of high impact strength resin were higher than those of conventional heat polymerizing resin, but statistically there was no significant difference(p>0.05). 2. All specimens with and without the grid strengthener did not show significant differences in the flexural fatigue, the impact and the transverse strength test(p>0.05). 3. All specimens reinforced with the T300, the T800 and the Kevlar fiber showed significant increase of the fatigue resistance and the impact force(p<0.05). 4. All specimens reinforced with the T800 and the Kevlar fiber showed significant increase of the transverse strength(p<0.05). 5. All specimens reinforced with the T300, the T800 and the Kevlar fiber exhibited greenstick fractures. The fibers tended to remain enveloped in the resin, resisting pull-out.

Experimental investigation of impact-sliding interaction and fretting wear between tubes and anti-vibration bars in steam generators

  • The tubes in a heat exchanger, such as a steam generator (SG), are subjected to crossflow, and interaction between tubes and supports can happen, which can cause fretting wear of tubes. Although many experiments and models have been established, some detailed mechanisms are still not sufficiently clear. In this work, more attention is paid to obtain the regulation of impact and sliding in the complex process and many factors, such as excitation forces and clearances. The responses and contact forces were analyzed to obtain clear understanding of the influences of these factors. Room temperature tests in the air were established. The results show that the effect of clearance on the normal work rate is not monotonous and instead has two peaks. The force ratio can influence the normal work rate by changing the distribution of contact angles, which can result in higher sliding in the contact process. Fretting wear tests are conducted, and the wear surfaces are analyzed by a scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX). The results of this work can serve as a reference for impactsliding contact analysis between AVBs and tubes in steam generators.

Round robin analysis of vessel failure probabilities for PTS events in Korea

  • Round robin analyses for vessel failure probabilities due to PTS events are proposed for plant-specific analyses of all types of reactors developed in Korea. Four organizations, that are responsible for regulation, operation, research and design of the nuclear power plant in Korea, participated in the round robin analysis. The vessel failure probabilities from the probabilistic fracture mechanics analyses are calculated to assure the structural integrity of the reactor pressure vessel during transients that are expected to initiate PTS events. The failure probabilities due to various parameters are compared with each other. All results are obtained based on several assumptions about material properties, flaw distribution data, and transient data such as pressure, temperature, and heat transfer coefficient. The realistic input data can be used to obtain more realistic failure probabilities. The various results presented in this study will be helpful not only for benchmark calculations, result comparisons, and verification of PFM codes developed but also as a contribution to knowledge management for the future generation.

  • Superconductor material $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x$(Bi-2223) powders were synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. It is clear that Bi-2223 phase more than Bi-2212 phase was acquired at sufficient synthesized time. Best condition for Bi-2223 phase was synthesizing temperature at $860^{\circ}C$. We also investigated the effects for concentrations and viscosities of starting liquid precursor as well as temperature distribution of reacting furnace. The size of synthesized powder was decreased by decreasing the concentration of starting liquid precursor. Modified reacting furnace with four different temperature heating zones gave us successful results for desirable nano-powder including $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x$ phase. Citric acid addition to starting liquid precursor showed increasing of the size for synthesized powder. Bi-2223 single phase was acquired from Bi2223 and Bi-2212 mixed phases through heat treatment in box furnace at 24 hours.

소결법에 의한 다공질 결정화유리의 제조 (Preparation of Porous Glass-Ceramics by the Sintering)

  • In manufacturing process of porous glass-ceramics by the filler method, the sintering behaviour of crystallizable glass powder mixed with various salts was studied and also the effects of precipitated crystal phases on the properties of porous glass-ceramics were investigated. Fine-grained crystallizable glass powder was homogeneously mixed with various slat having grain size 100~200 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and sintered for densification. After washing out the inorganic salt with distilled water, the porous sintered body was heat treated additionly for crystallization. The MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 base glass was used as crystallizable glass powder and the water soluble salts such as K2SO4 and MgSO4 were used as filler. When K2SO4 was used, leucite crystal phase was formed as a result of the ion exchange and porous glass-ceramics which exhibit high temperature resistance and high thermal expansion coefficient of 17$\times$10-6/$^{\circ}C$ could be obtained. On the contrary, when MgSO4 was used, only slight ion exchange is observed and $\mu$-cordierite and $\alpha$-cordierite crystal phases were formed and porous glass-ceramics which exhibit low thermal expansion coefficient schedule were determined with the results of DTA curves, thermal shrinkage curves and XRD patterns analysis. From DTA curves and thermal shrinkage curves, it was found that the sintering densification have been completed at the temperature range of exothermic peak for crystallization. The pore size distributions and pore diameters were measured by mercury porosimeter. The pore diameter of porous glass-ceramics was 10~15 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ when 100~200${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ grain size of K2SO4 was used and it was 25~30 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ when the same grain size of MgSO4 was used. The porous glass-ceramics K2SO4 used shows bimodal pore size distribution and its porous skeleton structure was ascertained by SEM observation.

  • 유기용매로서 에탄올을 함유한 염화니켈 수용액으로부터 니켈 미분말을 제조하고 이들의 산화특성을 검토하였다. 에탄올을 함유한 염화니켈 수용액에서 히드라진의 환원반응은 반응온도에 크게 의존하였다. 히드라진에 의한 환원반응시간은 반응온도가 증가함에 따라 감소하였다. 반응온도를 제어함으로써 입경이 0.1 $\mu\textrm{m}$-1.0 $\mu\textrm{m}$ 범위를 갖는 구형 분말을 얻을 수 있었다. 또한, 반응온도가 증가함에 따라 입경은 다소 증가하였고 조대한 입자들의 존재로 인하여 넓은 입도 분포를 나타내었다. $60^{\circ}C$에서 합성된 니켈 분말의 평균 입경과 비표면적은 각각 0.3 $\mu\textrm{m}$와 31.8 $m^2$/g이었다. $300^{\circ}C$에서 니켈 분말의 중량감소는 $Ni(OH)_2$의 분해반응에 기인한 것이다. $200^{\circ}C$ 공기중에서 가열처리한 경우 내산화성은 합성 분말보다 현저하였다

미세기공을 가지는 철이 첨가된 티타니아 복합여과막 제조 및 미세구조 (Fabrication and microstructure of the Fe doped $TiO_{2}$ composite membranes with ultrafine pores)

  • 알파 알루미나와 철이 첨가된 티타니아 최종층으로 구성된 세라믹 여과막을 졸-겔방법으로 제조하였다. 철이 첨가된 지지 티타니아 복합여과막은 지지체를 혼합졸에 침지하여 제조하였다. 복합여과막을 $550^{\circ}C$에서 $850^{\circ}C$까지 열처리온도에 따르는 미세구조 변화를 주사전자현미경으로 조사하였다. $650^{\circ}C$에서 1시간 소결한 경우, 철이 첨기된 티타니아 복합여과막의 평균입자 크기는 약 40 nm이었다. 철이 첨가된 티나니아 복합여과막은 티타니아 복합여과막보다 열적 저항성이 우수하였다. 철이 첨가된 티타니아 복합여과막은 $650^{\circ}C$까지 균열이 없는 미세구조와 좁은 입도분포를 유지하였다.

Thermal Decomposition of Hydrated Copper Nitrate [$Cu(NO_3)_2{\cdot}3H_2O$] on Activated Carbon Fibers

  • Thermolysis of $Cu(NO_3)_2{\cdot}3H_2O$ impregnated activated carbon fiber (ACF) was studied by means of XRD analysis to obtain Cu-impregnated ACF. $Cu(NO_3)_2{\cdot}3H_2O$ was converted into $Cu_2O$ around $230^{\circ}C$. The $Cu_2O$ was reduced to Cu at $400^{\circ}C$, resulting in ACF-C(Cu). Some Cu particles have a tendency to aggregate through the heat treatment, resulting in the ununiform distribution in ACF. Catalytic decomposition of NO gas has been performed by Cu-impregnated ACF in a column reactor at $400^{\circ}C$. Initial NO concentration was 1300 ppm diluted in helium gas. NO gas was effectively decomposed by 5~10 wt% Cu-impregnated ACF at $400^{\circ}C$. The concentration of NO was maintained less than 200 ppm for 6 hours in this system. The ACF-C(Cu) deoxidized NO to $N_2$ and was reduced to ACF-$C(Cu_2O)$ in the initial stage. The ACF-$C(Cu_2O)$ also deoxidized NO to $N_2$ and reduced to ACF-C(CuO). This ACF-C(CuO) was converted again into ACF-C(Cu) by heating. There was no consumption of ACF in mass during thermolysis and catalytic decomposition of NO to $N_2$ by copper. The catalytic decomposition was accelerated with increase of the reaction temperature.
