Superconductor material $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x$(Bi-2223) powders were synthesized by ultrasonic spray pyrolysis method. It is clear that Bi-2223 phase more than Bi-2212 phase was acquired at sufficient synthesized time. Best condition for Bi-2223 phase was synthesizing temperature at $860^{\circ}C$. We also investigated the effects for concentrations and viscosities of starting liquid precursor as well as temperature distribution of reacting furnace. The size of synthesized powder was decreased by decreasing the concentration of starting liquid precursor. Modified reacting furnace with four different temperature heating zones gave us successful results for desirable nano-powder including $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_2Cu_3O_x$ phase. Citric acid addition to starting liquid precursor showed increasing of the size for synthesized powder. Bi-2223 single phase was acquired from Bi2223 and Bi-2212 mixed phases through heat treatment in box furnace at 24 hours.
In manufacturing process of porous glass-ceramics by the filler method, the sintering behaviour of crystallizable glass powder mixed with various salts was studied and also the effects of precipitated crystal phases on the properties of porous glass-ceramics were investigated. Fine-grained crystallizable glass powder was homogeneously mixed with various slat having grain size 100~200 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and sintered for densification. After washing out the inorganic salt with distilled water, the porous sintered body was heat treated additionly for crystallization. The MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 base glass was used as crystallizable glass powder and the water soluble salts such as K2SO4 and MgSO4 were used as filler. When K2SO4 was used, leucite crystal phase was formed as a result of the ion exchange and porous glass-ceramics which exhibit high temperature resistance and high thermal expansion coefficient of 17$\times$10-6/$^{\circ}C$ could be obtained. On the contrary, when MgSO4 was used, only slight ion exchange is observed and $\mu$-cordierite and $\alpha$-cordierite crystal phases were formed and porous glass-ceramics which exhibit low thermal expansion coefficient schedule were determined with the results of DTA curves, thermal shrinkage curves and XRD patterns analysis. From DTA curves and thermal shrinkage curves, it was found that the sintering densification have been completed at the temperature range of exothermic peak for crystallization. The pore size distributions and pore diameters were measured by mercury porosimeter. The pore diameter of porous glass-ceramics was 10~15 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ when 100~200${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ grain size of K2SO4 was used and it was 25~30 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ when the same grain size of MgSO4 was used. The porous glass-ceramics K2SO4 used shows bimodal pore size distribution and its porous skeleton structure was ascertained by SEM observation.

Nickel fine powders were prepared from nickel chloride aqueous solution containing ethanol as an organic solvent, and their oxidation behaviors were investigated. The reduction reaction by hydrazine from nickel chloride aqueous solution containing ethanol depend on reaction temperature. The reduction reaction time by hydrazine decreased with the increase of reaction temperature. By controlling reaction temperature, the products could be obtained spherical particles in the range of 0.1 $\mu\textrm{m}$~1.0 $\mu\textrm{m}$. Also, As reaction temperature increased from $40^{\circ}C$ to $80^{\circ}C$, the particle size slightly increased and had a broad size distribution owing to the presence of the coarse particles. The mean particle size and specific surface area of nickel powders prepared at $60^{\circ}C$ were 0.3 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and 31.8 $\m^2$/g, respectively. Weight loss of the powders at $300^{\circ}C$ was due to composition of $_Ni(OH)2$. In case of heat treatment at $200^{\circ}C$ in air, oxidation resistance of nickel powders was remarkable than that of as-synthesized.

Ceramic membrane consisting of an ${\alpha}-Al_{2}O_{3}$ support and Fe doped $TiO_{2}$ top layer was prepared by the sol-gel method. The supported Fe doped $TiO_{2}$ top layer was made by dip coating the support in a mixed sol. The microstructure of the composite membranes was studied by SEM after calcination at $550~850^{\circ}C$. After sintering at $650^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr., the average particle diameter of the Fe doped $TiO_{2}$ top layer was ~40 nm. The supported Fe doped $TiO_{2}$ composite membranes exhibited much higher heat resistance than the $TiO_{2}$ membrane. The Fe doped $TiO_{2}$ composite membrane retained a crack-free microstructure and narrow particle size distribution even after calcination up to $650^{\circ}C$.
Thermolysis of $Cu(NO_3)_2{\cdot}3H_2O$ impregnated activated carbon fiber (ACF) was studied by means of XRD analysis to obtain Cu-impregnated ACF. $Cu(NO_3)_2{\cdot}3H_2O$ was converted into $Cu_2O$ around $230^{\circ}C$. The $Cu_2O$ was reduced to Cu at $400^{\circ}C$, resulting in ACF-C(Cu). Some Cu particles have a tendency to aggregate through the heat treatment, resulting in the ununiform distribution in ACF. Catalytic decomposition of NO gas has been performed by Cu-impregnated ACF in a column reactor at $400^{\circ}C$. Initial NO concentration was 1300 ppm diluted in helium gas. NO gas was effectively decomposed by 5~10 wt% Cu-impregnated ACF at $400^{\circ}C$. The concentration of NO was maintained less than 200 ppm for 6 hours in this system. The ACF-C(Cu) deoxidized NO to $N_2$ and was reduced to ACF-$C(Cu_2O)$ in the initial stage. The ACF-$C(Cu_2O)$ also deoxidized NO to $N_2$ and reduced to ACF-C(CuO). This ACF-C(CuO) was converted again into ACF-C(Cu) by heating. There was no consumption of ACF in mass during thermolysis and catalytic decomposition of NO to $N_2$ by copper. The catalytic decomposition was accelerated with increase of the reaction temperature.

The competition to deliver ultra-low emitting vehicles at a reasonable cost is driving the automotive industry to invest significant manpower and test laboratory resources in the design optimization of increasingly complex exhaust after-treatment systems. Optimization can no longer be based on traditional approaches, which are intensive in hardware use and laboratory testing. The CFD is in high demand for the analysis and design in order to reduce developing cost and time consuming in experiments. This paper describes the development of a comprehensive practical model based on experiments for simulating the performance of automotive three-way catalytic converters, which are employed to reduce engine exhaust emissions. An experiment is conducted to measure species concentrations before and after catalytic converter for different loads on engine. The model simulates the emission system behavior by using an exhaust system heat conservation and catalyst chemical kinetic sub-model. CFD simulation is used to study the performance of automotive catalytic converter. The substrate is modeled as a porous media in FLUENT and the standard k-e model is used for turbulence. The flow pattern is changed from axial to radial by changing the substrate model inside the catalytic converter and the flow distribution and the conversion efficiency of CO, HC and NOx are achieved first, and the predictions are in good agreement with the experimental measurements. It is found that the conversion from axial to radial flow makes the catalytic converter more efficient. These studies help to understand better the performance of the catalytic converter in order to optimize the converter design.
This study was carried out to investigated the distribution and characteristics of Vibrio spp. isolated from fish and shellfish, seawater and brackish water samples collected from Pohang, Uljin, Yeongduk and Gyeongju in Gyeongbuk Province from April 2000 to October 2000. Total 155 strains of genus Vibrio were isolated from 439 collected samples, and numbers of isolated strains of V. parahaemolyticus and V. vulnificus were 140 and 15, respectively. The isolation rate from the samples collected in Pohang was the highest as 41.5% (76 strains), and wat the highest as 71.4% (30 strains) in brackish water, and was the highest as 55.7% (34 strains) in August. And the optimal pH, temperature, and NaCl concentration for growth of V. parahaemolyticus and V. cholerae were 8.0, 3$0^{\circ}C$ and 2.0%, respectively. In a resistance test for environmental factors, heat and cold resistants of V. parahaemolyticus were higher than those of V. vulnificus, withstanding for 15 minutes at 6$0^{\circ}C$ and 6 days at -18$^{\circ}C$. The pH range for existence of V. parahaemolyticus and V. vulnificus were 4.5~l1.0 and 4.5~10.0, showing the similar resistance to pH. V. parahaemolyticus and V. vulnificus could grow in media containing up to 10.0% and 7.0% NaCl, respectively, Salt-tolerance of V. parahaemolyticus was higher than that of V. vulnificus. In an antibiotics sensitivity test against 16 strains of V. parahaemolyticus, twelve strains were resistant to ampicillin, eight strains were resistant to cephalothin. one strain was resistant to streptomycin, and one strain was resistant to ticarcillin.

The interaction between thrust plume and satellite base region was investigated by using direct simulate Monte-Carlo calculations. For the accurate simulation of N2 and H2 collisions and rotation-translation transition, a variable soft-sphere model and a recent rotational relaxation model of N2 and H2 were used. For the investigation of the interaction between thrust plume and base region, the number density distribution for each species, translational and rotational temperature distributions, heat flux, and pressure were examined by direct simulation of Monte-Carlo calculations. It was found that most of the surface properties are affected by H2 collisions and a strong non-equilibrium state is observed at the base region. It was demonstrated that an accurate model is needed to simulate H2 collisions and the rotation-translation transition. The results by the present calculation are more accurate than previous direct simulation Monte-Carlo calculations because more accurate rotational relaxation models were used in simulating the inelastic collisions.

Injection molds are generally fabricated by assembling a number of plates in which the core and cavity components are assembled. This assembled structure has a number of contact interfaces where the heat transfer characteristics are affected by thermal contact resistance. In previous studies, numerical approaches were investigated to predict the effect of thermal contact resistance on the temperature distribution of injection molds. In this study, thermal-fluid coupled numerical analyses are performed to take into account the thermal contact effect on the numerical evaluation of the mold filling characteristics. Comparisons with experimental results show that the proposed coupled analysis provides more reliable results than the conventional analyses in predicting the mold filling characteristics by taking into account the effect of thermal contact resistance inside the injection mold assembly.
Objectives Hataedock (HTD) is an oral Korean herbal medical oral treatment that removes fetal toxic heat and meconium from new born babies. The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether Hataedock treatment of Duchi extracts has anti-inflammation effects in atopic dermatitis-like skin lesions in House Dust Mite-Induced NC/Nga Mice. Methods The mice were divided into 3 groups (n=10 per group) as follows: the control group (Ctrl group), AD-induced group (AE group), AD-induced with HTD treatment group (DT group). 3-week-old NC/Nga mice were introduced to Hataedock treatment, made of Duchi extract. After 4 weeks, House Dust Mite-Induced application was used six times per week for 3 weeks to induce the first atopic dermatitis, and second AD in 7 weeks after. To examine skin injuries and anti-inflammatory effect, PKC, MMP-9, iNOS immunohistochemistry were used. Results The alleviate effect of the skin damage and angiogenesis was observed in DT group. The damage of stratum corneum, hyperplasia, edema, infiltration of lymphocytes and distribution of capillary were decreased in DT group. Also, the study results suggested that Hataedock treatment made of Duchi extracts in DT group remarkably decreased skin damages by 51% (p < 0.001), as well as PKC by 91%, MMP-9 by 48% (p < 0.001), iNOS by 51% (p < 0.001). Conclusions Based on the study results, we observed that Hataedock treatment of Duchi extracts alleviates AD by diminishing various inflammatory cytokines, initial steps of AD development, in the skin lesions. Potential applications for prevention and treatment of atopic dermatitis are expected.
