According to the environment report of UN, korea was classified as potable water shortage countries. Approximately 71% of the Earth's surface is covered by ocean. However, it is difficult to use for industry of residential purpose without a certain processing. The development of solar and waste-heat used absorption desalination technology have been examined as a viable option for supplying clean energy. In this study, the modelling of the main devices for solar and waste-heat used and adsorption desalination system was introduced. The design is divided into three parts. First, the evaporator for the vaporization of the top water is designed, and then the reactor for the adsorption and release of the steam is designed, followed by the condenser for the condensation of the fresh water is designed. In addition, new features based on the energy balance are also included to design absorption desalination system. In this basicresearch, One-bed(reactor) adsorption desalination plant that employ a low-temperature solar and waste energy was proposed and experimentally studied. The specific water yield is measured experimentally with respect to the time controlling parameters such as heat source temperatures, coolant temperatures, system switching and half-cycle operational times.
The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of Acid Red 66, adsorbed by granular activated carbon, were investigated on areas of initial concentration, contact time, and temperature. The adsorption equilibrium data were applied to Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin, Redlich-Peterson, and Temkin isotherms. The agreement was found to be the highest in the Freundlich model. From the determined Freundlich separation factor (1/n = 0.125 ~ 0.232), the adsorption of Acid Red 66 by granular activated carbon could be employed as an effective treatment method. Temkin's constant related to adsorption heat (BT = 2.147 ~ 2.562 J mol-1) showed that this process was physical adsorption. From kinetic experiments, the adsorption process followed the pseudo-second order model with good agreement. The results of the intraparticle diffusion equation showed that the inclination of the second straight line representing the intraparticle diffusion was smaller than that of the first straight line representing the boundary layer diffusion. Therefore, it was confirmed that intraparticle diffusion was the rate-controlling step. From thermodynamic experiments, the activation energy was determined as 35.23 kJ mol-1, indicating that the adsorption of Acid Red 66 was physical adsorption. The negative Gibbs free energy change (ΔG = -0.548 ~ -7.802 kJ mol-1) and the positive enthalpy change (ΔH = +109.112 kJ mol-1) indicated the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption process, respectively. The isosteric heat of adsorption increased with the increase of surface loading, indicating lateral interactions between the adsorbed dye molecules.
Heavy metal contamination has attracted considerable attention during recent decades due to the potential risk brought about for human beings and the environment. Several adsorbent materials are utilized for the purification of contaminated water resources among which chitosan is considered as an appropriate alternative. Copper is a heavy metal contaminants found in several industrial wastewaters and its adsorption on porous and macroporous chitosan membranes is investigated in this study. Membranes are prepared by phase inversion and particulate leaching method and their morphology is characterized using SEM analysis. Batch adsorption experiments are performed and it is found that copper adsorption on macroporous chitosan membrane is higher than porous membrane. The iso-steric heat of adsorption was determined by analyzing the variations of temperature to investigate its effect on adsorption characteristics of macroporous chitosan membranes. Furthermore, desorption experiments were studied using NaCl and EDTA as eluants. The mechanism of copper adsorption was also investigated using XPS spectroscopy which confirms simultaneous occurrence of chelation and electrostatic adsorption mechanisms.

A laboratory study on the adsorption of nitrate in polluted coastal water using various materials including several types of dredged sediments(ST) and yellow c1ays(YC), which are activated by heat(HT), bioleaching for heavy metal removal(BL) and neutralization(NR) was performed. The equilibrium time of the adsorption for the sediment bioleached and treated by heat(BL-HT-ST) was only 17min which was faster than the sediment bioleached, neutralized and treated by heat(BL-NR-HT-S) (25min) or the sediment treated by the bioleaching process(BL -ST)(27min), but longer equilibrium times for yellow c1ay(YC) or heat treated yellow day(HT- YC) were required. The adsorption processes of nitrate in sea water for tested material could be described by Freundlich isotherm, but were significantly affected by surface characteristics of the materials. The adsorption capacities for raw sediment and heat treated sediment were 2.12 and 2.19mg NO3-N/g, respectively, which were higher than others, indicating that the sediment activated by heat could be used as a material for the improvement of nearshore water quality.
Isotherms, kinetics and thermodynamic properties for adsorption of acid fuchsin (AF) dye by activated carbon were carried out using variables such as dose of adsorbent, pH, initial concentration and contact time and temperature. The effect of pH on adsorption of AF showed a bathtub with high adsorption percentage in acidic (pH 8). Isothermal adsorption data were fitted to the Freundlich, Langmuir, and Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm models. Freundlich isothem model showed the highest agreement and confirmed that the adsorption mechanism was multilayer adsorption. It was found that adsorption capacity increased with increasing temperature. Freundlich's separation factor showed that this adsorption process was an favorable treatment process. Estimated adsorption energy by Dubinin-Radushkevich isotherm model indicated that the adsorption of AF by activated carbon is a physical adsorption. Adsorption kinetics was found to follow the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. Surface diffusion at adsorption site was evaluated as a rate controlling step by the intraparticle diffusion model. Thermodynamic parameters such as activation energy, Gibbs free energy, enthalpy entropy and isosteric heat of adsorption were investigated. The activation energy and enthalpy change of the adsorption process were 21.19 kJ / mol and 23.05 kJ / mol, respectively. Gibbs free energy was found that the adsorption reaction became more spontaneously with increasing temperature. Positive entropy was indicated that this process was irreversible. The isosteric heat of adsorption was indicated physical adsorption in nature.
Hydrogen adsorption on various porous materials have been studied with a volumetric method at low temperature in the pressure of 0-760 torr. Their hydrogen uptakes depend at least partly on microporosity rather than total porosity. However, it is also necessary to consider other parameters such as pore size and pore architecture to explain the adsorption capacity. The heat of adsorption and adsorption-desorption-readsorption experiments show that the hydrogen adsorption over the porous materials are composed of physisorption with negligible contribution of chemisorption. Among the porous materials studied in this work, SAPO-34 has the highest adsorption capacity of 160 mL/g at 77 K and 1 atm probably due to high micropore surface area, micropore volume and narrow pore diameter.

This study presents a numerical investigation of the heat and mass transfer kinetics of a fin-tube-type adsorption bed using a two-dimensional numerical model with silica-gel and water as the adsorbent and refrigerant pair. The performance is strongly affected by the heat and mass transfer in the adsorption bed, but the details of the mass transfer kinetics remain unclear. The validity of inter-particle models used to simulate mass-transfer kinetics were examined, such as a constant pressure model and non-constant pressure model, and the valid ranges of the diffusion ratio for each model are proposed. The COP and SCP have been numerically calculated as the performance indexes according to the diffusion ratio. The constant pressure model, which is commonly used in previous research, was found to be valid only in a limited range of diffusion ratio.

In recent years, there has been a growing focus on preserving the global environment and utilizing resources efficiently. The significance of energy conservation has led to the development of systems that recycle waste heat from factories and use eco-friendly refrigerants. This study aims to enhance the performance of adsorption-desorption systems using thermoelectric devices, which are known for their ability to convert temperature differences into electrical energy. The research focuses on improving the efficiency of these systems by integrating thermoelectric modules to cool the adsorption side and heat the desorption side, thus enhancing overall system performance. The experiments utilized a typical thermoelectric device and silica gel as the adsorbent. Key experimental parameters included varying the inlet air temperature and relative humidity on the desorption side. The results indicated that increasing the relative humidity of the inlet air on the desorption side significantly enhanced the overall mass transfer coefficient while reducing the completion time of the process. Similarly, higher inlet air temperatures led to an increase in the mass transfer coefficient and a decrease in process completion time. These findings suggest that optimizing the operational conditions of thermoelectric devices can substantially improve the performance of adsorption-desorption systems, offering potential benefits for applications in ventilation systems and other related fields.
The adsorption of the anionic surfactants, sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) and sodium dodecylbenzene sulfonate (SDBS) anion surfactants form aqueous solutions with nonionic resins, Amberlite XAD-2, XAD-4 and XAD-7 at temperatures in 15~45$^{\circ}C$ range was studied. Several adsorption isotherm models were used to fit the experimental data, The best results were obtained with the Redlich-Peterson equation and the Freundlich model provided remarkably good fits. For a particular resin at a particular temperature, SDBS was more extensively adsorbed than SLS. The highest adsorption were obtained with XAD-4 resin and the specific surface area of the resins plays a major role in adsorption of the surfactants. Estimations of the isosteric heat of adsorption were indicative of an exothermic process, and their magnitudes manifested a physisorption process.
