The present paper investigated the correlation between acoustic pressure and heat transfer augmentation in acoustic fields. The acoustic pressure predicted by numerical work and compared with the augmentation ratio of heat transfer coefficient was experimentally measured. Also, particle image velocimetry(PIV) was used for the visualization of velocity vectors and kinetic energy distribution inside liquid region. For the numerical work, SVS programed with Fortran language and based on a coupled FE-BEM was used. Results of the present study, the acoustic pressure is increased by $60\%$ and the largest augmentation of heat transfer about $28\%$ was measured. Finally, the profiles of acoustic pressure is consistent with that of augmentation of heat transfer. It is concluded that a correlation exists between the acoustic pressure and the heat transfer augmentation.
The present paper investigated the correlation between the acoustic pressure variations and the augmentation of heat transfer in the ultrasonic induced acoustic fields. The augmentation ratios of heat transfer coefficient were experimentally measured and were compared with the profile of the pressure distribution in the acoustic fields predicted by numerical analysis. For numerical analysis, a coupled finite element-boundary element method (coupled FE-BEM) was applied. The results of the present study reveal that the acoustic pressure is higher near two ultrasonic transducers than other points where no ultrasonic transducer was installed. The augmentation trend of heat transfer is similar with the profile of the acoustic pressure distribution. In other words, as the acoustic pressure increases, the higher augmentation ratio of heat transfer is obtained. Numerical and experimental studies clearly show that the acoustic pressure variations are closely related to the augmentation of heat transfer in the acoustic fields.

The purpose of this study is augmentation of heat transfer without additional power in two-dimensional impinging air jet. The technique of heat transfer augmentation used in this experiment is to place rod bundles in front of the flat heated surface. The effects of rod diameter, nozzle-to-target plate distance and the nozzle exit velocity on heat transfer have been investigated. The main conclusions obtained from this experiment are as follows. High heat transfer augmentation is achieved by means of flow acceleration and thinning of boundary layer by placing rod bundles in front of the flat plate. Average heat transfer coefficient becomes maximum in the case of H/B=10,D=4mm. For H/B=2,D=4mm, maximum heat transfer augmentation has been determined to be about 1.5 times larger than that of the flat plate. Heat transfer augmentation by placing the rod bundles at 12m/s is to be about 2 times more than increasing nozzle exit velocity from 12m/s to 18m/s.
This study investigated the effect of pressure variations on augmentation of heat transfer when the ultrasonic waves were applied. The augmentation ratio of heat transfer was experimentally investigated and was compared with the profiles of pressure distributions calculated applying a coupled finite element-boundary element method (coupled FE-BEM). As the ultrasonic intensities increase from 70W to 340W, the velocity of the liquid paraffin is found to increase as well as kinetic energy, This physical behavior known as quasi-Eckart streaming results from acoustic pressure variations in the liquid. Especially, the higher acoustic pressure distribution near two ultrasonic transducers develops more intensive flow (quasi-Eckart streaming), destroying the flow instability. Also, the profile of acoustic pressure variation is consistent with that of augmentation of heat transfer. This mechanism is believed to increase the ratio of hear transfer coefficient.

The propose of this study is augmentation of heat transfer without additional external power in 2-dimensional impinging air jet. The passive heat transfer augmentation method tried in this experimental study is placement of rod bundles with the clearance, 2mm, in front of the heat transfer surface. The effects of pitch distance among rods and nozzle-to-target plate distance are investigated. The overall heat transfer rate of flat plate with rods reaches maximum at H/B=10 and P=40mm, and for H/B=2 and P=40mm the augmentation rate of heat transfer becomes maximum to a value which is about 1.57 times that of the flat plate without rods.
This study experimentally investigates effect of boiling heat transfer when ultrasonic vibration was applied. Under the wall temperature condition, temperature distribution in a cavity was measured during the boiling process and heat transfer coefficient of convection, sub-tooled boiling and saturated boiling states were measured with and without ultrasonic vibration, respectively. Also, the profiles of the pressure distribution in acoustic field measured by a hydrophone were compared with the augmentation ratios of heat transfer calculated by local heat transfer coefficient. Result of this study, heat transfer coefficient and augmentation ratio of heat transfer is higher with ultrasonic waves than without one. Especially, augmentation ratio of heat transfer is more increased the convection state than sub-cooled boiling and saturated boiling states. Acoustic pressure is relatively higher near ultrasonic transducer than other points where is no installed it and affects the augmentation ratio of heat transfer.

The purpose of this study is augmentation of heat transfer without additional power in a rectangular impinging air jet. As a method of passive heat transfer augmentation in a two-dimensional air jet, heat transfer surface of flat plate with rods is used. This study, particularly in the wall jet rigeon, investigates the effect of the clearance between the flat plate and rod. Mechanism of heat transfer enhancement is investigated by measuring the local heat transfer coefficient. It is concluded that the superposition of the effects of flow accelerlation through the clearance between the flat plate and the rod, and reattachment of the flow was the cause of the excellent performance. The overall heat transfer rate of flat plate with rods is about 1.5 times larger than that of flat plate without rods.

The purpose of this study is augmentation of heat transfer without additional power in the case of rectangular air jet which impinges vertically on the heating surface. The experimental results are obtained heat transfer augmentation of a two-dimensional impinging jet using the surface roughness of transverse repeated-rib type. The integral average heat transfer coefficient of ribbed plate is about two times larger than that of flat plate. In order to supplement the information about the mechanism of heat transfer augmentation, the flow structure in the stagnation region is visually studied by using the smoke wire technique. The heat transfer augmentation is due to the effect of stretching of large scale vortex in the stagnation region.

This paper presents the promotion of heat transfer through the use of wire-mesh screens. To improve heat transfer in an impingement water system, the wire-mesh screens are installed between the nozzle-to-heater surfaces. When the wire-mesh screens are not employed, this report exhibits the maximum heat transfer and the secondary maximum value at the stagnation point. But in case of using the wire-mesh screens, the transfer coefficient value of maximum heat exists at the stagnation point, and the second maximum value doesn't occur. Therefore, the heat transfer is more improved than 4~6 times that of the mean Nusselt numbers of simple water jet system, Also, within the region presented in this study, the heat transfer was promoted by using the wire-mesh screens at the stagnation point ; thus, the heat transfer was more increased than 6-7. 5 times that of simple water jet system.

In this study, heat transfer characteristics of vertical fixed bed with air flowing through were experimentally investigated. The experiments were conducted for cases where heat was transfer steady state conditions from an immersed cylindrical heated to the surrounding fixed ved of steel balls. Based on the experimental data, the optimum conditions for heat transfer augmentation have been determined and shows in empirical forms. For the same power loss, comparison of heat transfer effect between the fixed bed and single phase forced convection device indicates that both miniaturization of heat exchange device and heat transfer augmentation at low flow velocity are possible by application of the fixed bed to heat exchangers. The present results could provide a useful design information for the heat exchangers where fixed beds are used.
