This study deals with the interaction between buoyancy-induced convection and externally imposed excitation in the form of harmonic rocking and the effect of the interaction upon heat transfer in low-Pr liquids. A wide array of system responses are discussed using the spectral collocation numerical technique. The superposition of buoyancy and Coriolis forces leads to complex fluid flow and heat transfer. The transition to chaotic convection is accelerated, and heat transfer rates are reduced as the enclosure is excited at the fundamental frequency of oscillation associated with the pure buoyancy-driven case. Average heat transfer rates are correlated for Pr=0.02 and 0.03. The heat transfer is affected more in the Pr=0.03 liquid than the case of Pr=0.02.
Presented are heat data which describe the effect of interaction between bulk flow pulsations and a vortex embedded in a turbulent boundary layer. The pulsation frequencies are 3 Hz, 15 Hz and 30 Hz. A half delta wing with the same height as the boundary layer thickness is used to generate the vortex flow. The convection heat transfer coefficients on a constant heat-flux surface are measured by embedded 77 T-type thermocouples. Spanwise profiles of convection heat transfer coefficients show that upwash region of vortex flow is influenced by bulk flow pulsations. The local heat transfer coefficient increases approximately by 7 percent. The increase in the local change of convection heat transfer coefficient is attributed to the spanwise oscillatory motion of vortex flow especially at the low Strouhal number and to the periodic change of vortex size.
Temperature fields and temperature deformations induced by time-varying solar radiation, shadow, and heat exchange are of great importance for the ride safety and quality of the maglev system. Accurate evaluations of their effects on the dynamic performances are necessary to avoid unexpected loss of service performance. This paper presents a numerical approach to determine temperature effects on the maglev train/guideway interaction system. Heat flux density and heat transfer coefficient of different components of a 25 m simply supported concrete guideway on Shanghai High-speed Maglev Commercial Operation Line is calculated, and an appropriate section mesh is used to consider the time-varying shadow on guideway surfaces. Based on the heat-stress coupled technology, temperature distributions and deformation fields of the guideway are then computed via Finite Element method. Combining guideway irregularities and thermal deformations as the external excitations, a numerical maglev train/guideway interaction model is proposed to analyze the temperature effect. The responses comparison including and excluding temperature effect indicates that the temperature deformation plays an important role in amplifying the response of a running maglev, and the parameter analysis results suggest that climatic and environmental factors significantly affect the temperature effects on the coupled maglev system.

A mathematical model for the synergistic interaction of physical and chemical environmental agents was suggested for quantitative prediction of irreversibly damaged cells after combined exposures. The model took into account the synergistic interaction of agents and was based on the supposition that additional effective damages responsible for the synergy are irreversible and originated from an interaction of ineffective sublesions. The experimental results regarding the irreversible component of radiation damage of diploid yeast cells simultaneous exposed to heat with ionizing radiation ($^{60}Co$) or UV light (254 nm) are presented. It was shown that the cell ability of the liquid holding recovery decreased with an increase in the temperature, at which the exposure was occurred. A good correspondence between experimental results and model prediction was demonstrated. The importance of the results obtained for the interpretation of the mechanism of synergistic interaction of various environmental factors is discussed.
The anisotropic phonon conductions with varying Joule heating rate of the silicon film in Silicon-on-Insulator devices are examined using the electron-phonon interaction model. It is found that the phonon heat transfer rate at each boundary of Si-layer has a strong dependence on the heating power rate. And the phonon flow decreases when the temperature gradient has a sharp change within extremely short length scales such as phonon mean free path. Thus the heat generated in the hot spot region is removed primarily by heat conduction through Si-layer at the higher Joule heating level and the phonon nonlocality is mainly attributed to lower group velocity phonons as remarkably dissimilar to the case of electrons in laser heated plasmas. To validate these observations the modified phonon nonlocal model considering complete phonon dispersion relations is introduced as a correct form of the conventional theory. We also reveal that the relation between the phonon heat deposition time from the hot spot region and the relaxation time in Si-layer can be used to estimate the intrinsic thermal resistance in the parallel heat flow direction as Joule heating level varies.

Special problem emphasized by specialists in the field of analyzing the heat interchanges in the system ocean-atmosphere (SOA) is a necessity of determination of the near-surface atmospheric temperature, which can be only indirectly connected with characteristics of the SOA natural microwave radiation measured from satellites. That is why, the following dilemma is not obvious, but interesting and promised: what is better - to use the satellite methods for retrieving the partial parameters of the SOA or for analysis its state as a whole. To our opinion, this task is similar to the idea recognized by specialists engaged in the heat infrared region (8-12 mcm) of electromagnetic spectrum and its applications, where an intensity of natural infrared radiation (effective radiation) is used as the inherent property (the attribute) of the SOA heat balance. Here we studied important aspects of this problem: a) what medium initiates a heat transfer in the SOA and disturbs its heat balance - the ocean or the atmosphere b) what SOA parameters directly influence on its natural microwave radiation intensity (brightness temperature) measured from satellites? We relate these processes mainly to the synoptic range of time scales enriched by various events in the SOA interface such as the mid-latitude and tropical cyclones.
The interaction energy of water molecule over the surfaces of basal planes of silver iodide has been calculated , assuming 1-4-6--12 type potentials between the gas molecule and lattice ions in the silver iodide lattice. The heat of adsorption ranges from 12.25 to 12.75 kcal /mole at low coverage which is around the level of the latent heat of sublimaton of water.
In this paper, using the recently introduced analytical approach for the analysis of mass and heat transfer during film growth in reactors for epitaxy from the gas phase, these processes are analyzed taking into account natural convection and the possibility of changing the rate of chemical interaction between reagents. As a result of the analysis, the conditions under which the homogeneity of the grown epitaxial layers increases with a change in the values of the parameters of the growth process are formulated.
