The effect of Post Weld Heat Treatment(PWHT) of RE36 steel for marine structure was investigated with parameters such as micro-vickers hardness, corrosion potential and corrosion current density of weld metal(WM), base metal(BM) and heat affected zone(HAZ), and both Al alloy anode generating current and Al alloy anode weight loss quantity etc. Hardness of post-weld heat treated BM, WM and HAZ is lower than that of As-welded condition of each region. However, hardness of HAZ was the highest among those three parts regardless of PWHT temperature and corrosion potential of WM was the highest among those three parts without regard to temperature and corrosion potential of WM was the highest among those three parts without regard to PWHT temperature. The amplitude of corrosion potential difference of each other three parts at PWHT temperature $550^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$ are smaller than that of three parts by As-welded condition and corrosion current density obtained by PWHT was also smaller than that of As-welded condition. Eventually, it was known that corrosion resistance was increased by PWHT. However both Al anode generating current and anode weight loss quantity were also decreased by PWHT compare to As-welded condition when RE36 steel is cathodically protected by Al anode. Therefore, it is suggested that the optimum PWHT temperature with increasing corrosion resistance and cathodic protection effect is $550^{\circ}C$.

This study examined the effects of two kinds of functional sun hats through a head-manikin test and a climatic chamber trial for farm workers in summer. Experiment was composed of four conditions. The first condition was the condition without any hat (Control). The second was the condition with a sun hat on the market (Hat A). The third was the condition with a functional sun hat made of reflective fabric (Hat B). The last was the condition with a functional sun hat having a ventilating structure as well as reflective fabric (Hat C). For the subjects in the climatic chamber trials, 12 healthy males volunteered. Air temperature, relative humidity and globe temperature in the chamber was maintained at $33{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C,\;65{\pm}5%RH\;and\;39{\pm}1^{\circ}C\;(WBGT\;33^{\circ}C)$. Subjects did a simulated red pepper-work (50-min work and 10-min rest, twice repetition) for 120 min. As the result of head-manikin test, the surface temperature on middle of back-neck was the lowest in Hat B of four conditions and the surface temperature on top of head was the lowest in Hat C. As the result of climatic chamber trials, there were apparent differences between with (Hat A, Hat B, Hat C) and without a sun hat (Control). In rectal temperature ($T_{re}$), mean skin temperature ($\={T}_{sk}$), heart rate (HR), total sweat rate (TSR), The physiological heat strain was less in the condition with hats than in the condition without a sun hat. As the increasing rate in Tre, Hat B is the most effective hat for alleviation heat strain. As the subjective responses, Hat B was the most effective hat for thermal comfort even though the difference was not significant. Hat C was less effective than Hat B and the reason might be the increase of weight due to inserting the ventilating structure.

For heat pumps used in a cold region, it is very important to obtain appropriate heating capacity. Several studies using a variable speed compressor and an additional heater have been performed to enhance heating capacity at low ambient temperatures. However, for outdoor temperature conditions below $-15^{\circ}C$, it is still difficult to obtain enough heating capacity above the rated value. In recent studies, the application of gas injection technique into a two-stage heat pump yielded noticeable heating performance improvement at low temperature conditions. In this study, the heating performance of a two-stage gas injection heat pump with a rated capacity of 3.5 kW was measured and analyzed by varying refrigerant charge amount and EEV opening at the standard heating condition. The heating performance of the two-stage gas injection heat pump was compared with that of a two-stage non-injection heat pump. The heating capacity and COP of the two-stage gas injection heat pump were improved by 2-10% at the optimal charging condition over those of the two-stage non-injection heat pump.
The purpose of this study is to clarify the characteristic of urban heat island intensity in urban area formed at a basin. Thermal environments for basin-type cities are influenced by significant topographic relief winds. In this study, we analyzed the diurnal variations of the heat island intensity according to meteorological condition and season using AWS(Automatic Weather observation System) data in Daegu Metropolitan area for 1 year(3/April, 2003 $\sim$ 2/April, 2004). In this study, we defined the urban heat island intensity as the air temperature difference between two points, the downtown and the suburban area. The suburban area is located at valley mouth around the western tip of Daegu. The results are summarized as follows; 1. The maximum heat island intensity was recorded at early morning under the meteorological conditions, calm and clear 2. The heat island intensity was strong in the order of winter, fall, spring and summer. 3. The heat island intensity came out minus values in the afternoon. This phenomenon is known as a com mon for basin-type cities. 4. The heat island intensity was twice or more in clear and calm than not so.
In order to propose the optimum welding condition for field application, the effects of welding heat input and cooling rate at PWHT on the mechanical properties were investigated. Submerged arc welding of 1.25Cr-0.5Mo steel for pressure vessel was conducted at welding heat inputs of 15.2kJ/cm, 30.9kJ/cm, and 44.8kJ/cm, and cooling rates of 184$^{\circ}C$/hr, 55$^{\circ}C$/hr, and 2$0^{\circ}C$/hr at PWHT. From the test results, as the welding heat input increase up to 30.9kJ/cm, the changes of microstructure and impact toughness were small. At the heat input of 44.8kJ/cm, however, toughness decreased obviously due to the coarsening of coarse-grained HAZ and formation of ferrite at bainite grainboundary of weld metal. On the other hand, cooling rates at PWHT did not effect on the changes in microstructure and mechanical properties. Even though tensile strength and impact toughness at all welding conditions of this study were above the minimum specification requirement, it was confirmed that heat input of 30.9kJ/cm was the optimum welding condition to improve welding performance by higher heat input.

Plants are grown under constitutive changing of environmental conditions and response to external conditions at both protein and transcription level. The effects of heat on plant growth are broad and influence the yield directly. Heat stresses could be classified depend on intensity and duration. Fundamental changes of growth condition by climate change maybe or maybe not classified as a stress on plant growth. The effects of a short and unanticipated impact of elevated heat on plant could be different with those of under longer extension of ambient heat. To examine differently expressed gene sets by ambient heat stress of soybean, we grow the soybean in normal condition for three weeks. After that, soybean plants move to growth chamber. The temperature of growth chamber increase up to $9^{\circ}C$ for four days. We have extracted mRNA and micro RNA every 24 hours and carried RNA sequence analysis. We found major metabolic pathways affected by ambient heat stress. Mainly carbon metabolism, translation machinery and amino acid synthesis are affected. We discussed the expression patterns of genes of heat sensing and hormone responses.

For the refrigeration system using the reversed Carnot cycle, maximum conditions of effectiveness and available energy output are studied with taking into account of the heat transfer between heat sources and the cycle, and of the heat loss due to heat leakage into the cold heat source. The extremum of the effectiveness exists for variables T$_{l}$ and T$_{L}$. Therefore the desirable results in engineering applications that available energy output is not zero under maximum condition of the effectiveness are obtained. In addition, the extremum of the available energy output does not exist for the variable T$_{l}$ but does for the variable T$_{L}$. As the heat loss increases, the available energy output and the effectiveness decrease, the regions of T$_{l}$ and T$_{L}$ where the refrigeration system is possible to operate become smaller.aller.

A three-point bending test was performed on roll-bonded Mg/Al/STS clad-metal plates under two different testing conditions (Mg layer in tension, or STS in tension) and their mechanical response and fracture behavior were investigated. Bending strength was found to be greater under the condition of Mg layer in tension. Heat treatment at $200^{\circ}C$ increased the bending formability, suggesting the interfacial strength increased at $200^{\circ}C$. Under the condition of Mg in tension, the clad heat-treated at $300^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$ fractured in two steps, with the first step associated with the interfacial fracture between Mg and Al, and the second the fracture of the Mg layer. STS/Al layers were found to be bent without complete fracture. Under the condition of STS in tension, the clad heat-treated at $300^{\circ}C$ and $400^{\circ}C$ exhibited a very small load drop at the displacement, which is similar to that of the first load drop associated with the interfacial fracture under the condition of Mg in tension. In this case, no interfacial cracks were found and the complete cut-through fracture of clad was observed at low temperature heat treatment conditions, suggesting excellent interfacial strength. When the heat treatment temperature was higher than $300^{\circ}C$, interfacial cracks were observed. The local stress condition and the position of the interface with respect to the surface were found to have a great influence on the fracture behaviors of clad metals.

The effects of the changes of a film cooling mass flow rate and operating conditions on wall heat flux characteristics of a subscale calorimetric combustion chamber were investigated by experiment and numerical analysis. At the nominal operating condition, with the film cooling mass flow rate being 10.5 percent of a main fuel mass flow rate, maximum heat flux at the nozzle throat was measured to be 30 percent lower than that without the film cooling. For the relatively higher mixture ratio and chamber pressure condition, maximum heat flux at the nozzle throat was increased by 31 percent compared to that of the nominal condition test without film cooling.
Nucleate pool boiling experiments with constant heat flux condition were performed using pure R11 and R113 for various surface angles under saturated pool condition. A circular heater of 1 mm diameter, with artificial cavity in the center, fabricated using MEMS technique and the high-speed controller were used to maintain the constant heat flux. Images of bubble growth were taken at 5,000 frames per second using a high-speed CCD camera. The bubble geometry was obtained from the captured bubble images. The effects of surface angles on the bubble growth behaviors were analyzed as dimensional scales for the initial and thermal growth regions. The parameters for the bubble growth behaviors were bubble radius, bubble growth rate, sliding velocity, bubble shape and advancing and receding contact angles. These phenomena require further analysis for various surface angles, but this study will provide good experimental data with constant heat flux boundary condition for such works.
