  • Objectives: This study examined dental hygiene students' frequency of participation in community volunteer activities, job consciousness, depression, and self-esteem, and then identified the correlation among them. We also analyzed the moderating effect of depression and self-esteem on the correlation between participation in community volunteer activities and job consciousness. Methods: We surveyed 312 dental hygiene students attending four universities in South Chungcheong Province, Korea, from May 2 to June 15, 2016, through direct visits. They were given structured questionnaires containing four items on community volunteer activities, three on job consciousness, ten on self-esteem, and 13 on depression. To examine the moderating effect of depression and self-esteem, we performed analysis of variance, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling analysis (based on the path analysis model and by inserting interaction terms) using SPSS and AMOS. Results: We observed a negative correlation between self-esteem and depression (r=-0.062) but a positive correlation between self-esteem and job consciousness (r=0.125). Depression and job consciousness had a negative correlation (r=-0.176). Depression had a statistically significant impact on job consciousness (r=-0.519, p<0.01). The interaction term between depression and frequency of community volunteer activities also had a statistically significant influence on job consciousness (r=0.090, p<0.05). These findings indicate that depression moderates the correlation between frequency of community volunteer activities and job consciousness at a statistically significant level. Conclusions: More frequent participation in volunteer activities enhances dental hygiene students' self-esteem, reduces depression, and raises job consciousness. The positive impact of volunteering on self-esteem, depression, and job consciousness warrants encouraging students' participation in community volunteer activities, creating supportive structures, and developing various volunteer programs relevant to the students' area of study.

  • This study analyzes overall honey consumption and purchasing behavior, and in particular, seeks to identify factors that influence the willingness to pay (WTP) for native honey. A survey of 500 South Korean consumers was conducted to understand their purchasing experiences and perceptions related to honey. A multiple linear regression analysis was carried out to comprehend the effect of the following factors on the willingness to pay for native honey: 1) knowledge of honey, 2) health consciousness, 3) the unhealthy = tasty intuition (UTI), and 4) positive perception of sweetness. As a result, consumers with more knowledge about honey, higher health consciousness and more positive perception of sweetness were more willing to pay for native honey. On the other hand, past honey purchasing or consuming experience had no significant impact on the willingness to pay for native honey. Marketing strategies and implications were derived from the characteristics of native honey consumers identified in this study.

  • This study was intended to examine the influence of health consciousness on health/taste inferences, affect-based inferences, and perceived conflict between taste and health in food decision making. Seven hundred and fifty-four participants completed the survey. Structural equation modeling with a maximum likelihood method was used to test the relationships among constructs, following the two-step approach. The results of this study showed that more health-conscious consumers have a higher perceived healthfulness of food items but lower anticipated taste. In addition, this study also found consumers' cognitive responses influenced affective responses. Results suggested that when restaurants promote menu items as both healthy and tasty, consumers' positive hedonic emotions (such as pleasure) increased and negative self-conscious emotions (such as guilt) decreased, and consumers' efforts to balance health and taste were supported. At last, the implications both for academia and marketing were also established and discussed.

Questionnaires were administered to 306 people in their twenties and thirties living in Daegu Metropolitan City and Kyoungbuk province. The data was analyzed by using frequency, factor analysis, credibility, ${\chi}^2$-test, ANOVA, Duncan-test, and t-test. The findings were as follows. Sex role identity were classified into four groups (androgyny, masculineness, feminineness, and undifferentiation). Men in androgyny group showed the highest rate of 41.3% followed by undifferentiation(24.7%), masculineness(21.3%), and feminineness(12.7%). Women in undifferentiation group showed the highest rate of 35.9% followed by feminineness(24.4%), androgyny(23.7%), and masculineness(16.0%). Social face sensitivity were composed of four factors (consciousness of being embarrassed, social formality, other consciousness, and prestige). Appearance management behaviors were composed of six factors (skin management, fashion image management, plastic surgery management, weight management, hair management, and health management). According to the result of a significant difference between social face sensitivity and appearance management behaviors by sex role identity, male showed significant difference between the sub-variables of social face sensitivity factors (consciousness of being embarrassed, social formality, and other consciousness). Both of the male and female showed a significance of difference in consciousness of being embarrassed, and social formality. Male showed significant difference between the sub-variables of appearance management behaviors factors (fashion image management, weight management, hair management, and health management). Both of the male and female showed a significance of difference in fashion image management. Gender of twenties and thirties showed distinction between the sub-variables of social face sensitivity factors (consciousness of being embarrassed, and prestige) and appearance management behaviors (skin management, fashion image management, plastic surgery management, weight management, and hair management).
