  • This paper reviews the literature on safety culture focusing particularly on research carried out from 1998 onwards. The term 'safety culture' is clarified as it is typically applied to organizations, to safety and particularly to construction safety. Some clarifications in terms of levels of aggregation, positive safety culture and safety performance are provided by presenting appropriate empirical evidences and their theoretical developments. Safety culture is a subset of organizational culture that is thought to influence employees' attitudes and behavior in relation to an organization's ongoing health and safety performance. Implications for future research in the area are addressed, as safety culture has in recent years become the focus of much attention in all industries, and in the construction industry in particular.

농촌지역 노인의 안전한 약물 사용을 위한 교육의 효과 (The Effects of an Education Program for Safe Drug Use in the Rural Elderly)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to develop an education program for safe drug use in the rural elderly and to measure the effect of the program. Method: This study utilized a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The subjects of this study consisted of 40 older persons who were more than 65 years old and lived in G and C moon, Y gun, Gyeongsang-bukdo and visited the public health subcenter. Twenty were assigned to the experimental group and 20 to the control group. The education was provided for one and a half hours, once a week for 3 weeks. Data was collected before, right after, and one month after the program. Result: The first hypothesis was supported(F=79.24, p=0.000) showing that the knowledge scores of the drug use of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group at post education and one month after education. The second hypothesis was supported(F=23.84, p=0.000) showing that the drug misuse and abuse prevention behavior scores in the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group at post education and one month after the education. Conclusion: This study suggests that the education for safe drug use is effective in promoting knowledge and behavior for safe drug use of the rural elderly.

간호대학생의 미세먼지 관련 지식과 태도가 행위에 미치는 영향 (The Influence of Knowledge and Attitude on Behavior related to Particulate Matter in Nursing Students)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 간호대학생의 미세먼지 관련 지식, 태도 및 행위의 수준과 미세먼지 관련 행위의 영향요인을 파악하는 것이다. 본 연구는 서술적 조사연구로 G시에 소재하는 K대학 간호대학생 186명을 대상으로 2018년 5월 1일부터 14일까지 자료수집을 하였다. SPSS 18.0 프로그램을 사용하여 수집된 자료를 t-test, 일원분산분석, Pearson 상관분석 및 다중회귀분석으로 분석하였다. 본 연구결과 간호대학생의 미세먼지 관련 지식(10.6/15), 태도(59.94/75), 행위(42.56/60)는 모두 비교적 높았다. 미세먼지 행위의 유의한 예측인자는 태도(β=.591, p<.001), 흡연력(β=-.134, p=.049), 호흡기계 질환(β=.133, p=.025)이었고, 설명력은 40.1%이었다. 미세먼지 지식은 행위에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았다(β=.067, p=.254). 간호대학생의 미세먼지 관련 건강 행위를 증진시키기 위해서 태도 변화에 초점을 둔 효과적인 미세먼지 교육 프로그램 개발이 요구된다.

Public Health Nutrition Policies and the Role of the Government: International Examples and the Need for Action in the Republic of Korea

  • Many of the non-communicable diseases, which are now the major causes of death and disability worldwide, can be linked to our lifestyles, and thus to what eat The life-style related risk factors are - to a great extent - preventable. Public health nutrition (PHN) policies are means through which govemments can have an enornous impact on the reduction of nutrition-related non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, cancer and cardiovascular disease, by creating and supporting environments which enable healthier food choices and which are conducive to healthy nutrition behavior. More and more countries are developing nutrition policies. Nutrition policies are tools through which governments can intervene and control nutrition-related concerns throughout all levels of society. The need for more concerted action in the Republic of Korea is demonstrated, by showing the lack of priority for nutrition issues. Four recommendations for action are made; the first recommendation places emphasis on the need to implement a structure at the political level, through which nutrition concerns can be addressed, such as a nutrition unit within the Ministry of Health and Welfare. The second recommendation stresses the need for a strong nutrition advocacy strategy, to raise the awareness of the gains that can be achieved by promoting healthy nutrition. The third recommendation calls for more vigorous regulations and stricter enforcement of food and nutrition advertisement, and the fourth recommendation emphasizes the need for a settings-bsed approach to nutrition interventions. Acknowledging the developments that have already occurred in Korea, public health nutrition has yet to become a priority on the agenda of policy makers in Korea.

수술실 간호사의 방사선 방어에 대한 지식과 방사선 방어행위에 대한 인식도 및 수행도 (Knowledge of Radiation Protection and the Recognition and Performance of Radiation Protection Behavior among Perioperative Nurses)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this descriptive study was to investigate the knowledge of radiation protection and the recognition and performance of radiation protection behaviors among perioperative nurses. This study was intended to yield basic data for the development of nursing interventions aimed at improving the nurses' radiation protection behaviors. Methods: One hundred and thirty-seven nurses working in the operating room participated in a survey from September 1 to 30, 2011. The data was analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation with the SPSS/WIN 19.0 program. Results: The average score of radiation protection knowledge was $7.57{\pm}3.45$ out of 16. The average score for the recognition and performance of radiation protection behaviors was $4.32{\pm}0.23$. The knowledge of radiation protection was significantly correlated with the recognition and performance of radiation protection behaviors. Conclusion: Expanding the knowledge of radiation protection could lead to the increase of the recognition and performance of radiation protection behaviors. Therefore, promoting the performance of radiation protection behaviors by improving perioperative nurses' knowledge of radiation protection through reinforcing radiation-related education hereafter could be an important part of nursing.

간호사의 정치적 역량 개념 개발 (Concept Development of Political Competence for Nurses)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to define and clarify the concept of political competence for nurses. Methods: A hybrid model method was used to investigate the dimensions, attributes, and definitions of the concept. In the theoretical stage of the study, literature on nursing, politics, and other discipline were reviewed. In the fieldwork stage, individual in-depth interviews and focus groups interviews were conducted with politically seasoned experts or activists who had an understanding of the concept of political competence for extensive descriptions in nursing and field of health care. Results: The concept of political competence was represented in four dimensions as political knowledge, political efficacy, political interaction, and political activity. In the political knowledge dimension, there were three attributes, namely, political knowledge, political information and systematic analysis ability. The political efficacy dimension had three attributes of internal political efficacy, external political efficacy, and self-pride of nursing profession. The political interaction dimension had three attributes of organizations and community service, networking, and persuasive power. The political activity dimension had six attributes of political leadership, political expression, assertive behavior, political advocacy, political participation, and policy intervention. Conclusion: This concept development might provide a basic understanding of developing a measurement tool and for constructing a theory promoting nurses' political competence.

여대생의 건강증진 행위에 영향을 미치는 요인 (Antecedents of Health-Promoting Behavior Among Female University Students in Korea)

  • 본 연구는 여대생의 건강증진행위를 설명하기 위하여, 문헌고찰을 통해 가설적 모형을 도출하고, 여대생을 대상으로 건강증진행위를 횡단적으로 조사하여 모형의 적합성과 모형에서 제시된 가설을 검증하는 서술적 상관관계 연구이다. 연구에 사용된 변수는 건강증진행위와 관련된 선행 문헌의 고찰을 근거로 선정되었으며, 총 280명의 자료가 최종 분석에 이용되었다. 설문지는 Pender의 건강증진모형을 기초로 하여 개발하였으며, 조정요인 5문항, 건강상태 지각 3문항, 건강 통제위 4문항, 자아 존중감 5문항, 건강증진 행위 24문항의 총 41문항으로 구성하여 사용하였다. 개발된 항목에 대하여 간호대학생들을 대상으로 사전 조사를 실시하여 최종적인 설문지를 완성하였다. 본 연구모형에 대한 구성개념의 파악을 위해서 탐색적 요인분석을 실시하였고, 측정항목에 대한 요인별 단일 차원성 확인 및 통계적 검정을 위해 확인적 요인분석을 실시하였다. 연구의 가설검증을 위해 공변량 구조분석을 실시하였다. 모형의 적합도는 카이제곱은 244.04(자유도=121, p<0.001), GFI=0.91, CFI=0.97, NNFI=0.96, RMSR= 0.022으로 나타났다. 분석결과 여대생의 자아존중감과 내적통제위는 건강상태지각 및 건강증진행위에 유의한 영향을 미치는 요인으로 확인되었으며, 여대생의 건강상태지각은 건강증진행위에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

순채 점액질 다당체 추출물의 피부 보습 효과 연구 (Skin Hydration Effect of Brasenia schreberi Mucilage Polysaccharide Extract)

  • 본 연구는 순채 점액질 다당체의 인체 피부와 in vitro에서의 피부 보습효과를 확인하고 화장품 원료로서의 가능성을 평가하기 위한 것이다. 다양한 환경적 스트레스와 노화로부터 피부를 보호하기 위해서는 피부의 수분 보유량을 증가시키고 수분의 손실을 예방해야 한다. 본 연구진은 순채의 점액질로부터 추출한 다당체를 인체 피부에 도포했을 때, 특이적인 윤활성으로 피부에서의 거칠기(roughness)를 개선시켰다는 것을 확인했다. In vitro에서 각질형성세포에 순채 점액질 다당체를 처리했을 때, 피부장벽의 가교 역할을 하는 transglutaminase 1 (TGM1) 유전자의 발현이 증가하였다. 또한 물과 글리세롤의 이동을 조절하는 막관통 단백질 aquaporin 3 (AQP3)와 수분 보유 기질 히알루론산을 합성하는 효소인 hyaluronan synthase 3 (HAS3) 유전자의 발현 또한 증가함을 확인했다. 추가적으로 화장품 원료로서의 가능성을 평가하기 위한 실험에서, 항염증과 콜라겐 합성 촉진 효능을 보였다. 결과적으로 순채의 점액질 다당체는 기존에 없는 새로운 천연 원료로서, 피부에 보습 효과와 항염증, 콜라겐 합성 촉진 효능이 있음을 밝혔다.

미국 버지니아주 거주 한국인과 미국인의 건강상태 인식도 및 짠맛 기호도 비교 (A Study on the Level of Perception of the Health Condition of Koreans and Americans in Virginia, USA and Their Preference for Salty Taste)

  • This study was conducted as a comparative analysis, using the SPSS 17.0 program for a survey conducted from March to July 2013, on the level of perception and preference factors of Koreans and Americans residing in Virginia, USA(89 male and female adults of 20 years of age or above). For the information on the degree of obesity, a survey was used and the subjects provided with their heights and weights. The researcher used this data to calculated their BMI and distinguished the degrees of obesity. For the BMI, the obesity diagnosis of Korean Society for the Study of Obesity was used for Koreans, and the WHO's obesity diagnosis on adults were employed for Americans. First, regarding the Korean participants, the level of obesity appeared in the order of normal (79.6%), overweight (14.3%), and underweight (6.1%). Also, the level of perceptions of their health conditions appeared in the order of average (51.7%) and good (34.7%). No one perceived their health to be in poor condition. Meanwhile, for the American participants, the order was as follows: overweight at about 45%, normal weight at about 35%, obesity at about 12.5%, and underweight at about 7.5%. In terms of the level of perception of health during ordinary times, about 55% of the American participants answered that they are in good health. Therefore, the Americans were found to perceive their health to be in relatively better condition than the Koreans residing in the USA. Also, concerning the level of interest in health while eating food at ordinary times, the American participants were discovered to be more interested (about 62.5%) than the Korean participants. The research on their preference for salty taste was conducted as a survey, and the subjects were asked to choose an item according to their subjective feeling. Regarding the preference for salty taste, both Koreans and Americans residing in the USA responded as moderate. However, a higher proportion of Americans than Koreans responded to favor salty taste. Concerning the reason for their preference for salty taste, Koreans responded with various reasons whereas Americans mostly responded that it is because they eat salty food frequently. For any changes in dietary behavior related to eating salty food, both Korean and American respondents thought that the amount of their daily intake of salt is appropriate and that they consider taste as most important in selecting a snack. Based on the above data, the results of this research indicate a need for actual improvement in the diet with regard to salty food along with diverse policies for promoting life with a low salt diet in future.

학교 급식 영양(교)사의 나트륨 저감화 인식도, 실천도 및 저감화 방안 (School Dietitian Awareness, Practice, and Sodium Reduction Plan in School Meal Service)

  • Purpose: Sodium intake in school meals is very high. Accordingly, many health problems have emerged. The objective of this study was to assess school dietitian's awareness and practice of sodium contents in urban and rural locations schools and suggest sodium reduction plan in school meal service. Methods: A total of 524 nationwide school dietitians from elementary, middle, and high schools in south Korea were surveyed using questionnaires to determine their awareness and practicing behavior for reducing high-salt contents in meals. Sodium reduction plan was then suggested accordingly. Results: Most school dietitians (83%, n=436) were aware of the necessities of sodium reduction in school meals. They were aware of optimum sodium levels at 700-1000 mg. However, the percentages of dietitians who had practicing behavior of using measuring utensils for seasoning were 20.7% (n=108), 14.9% (n=78), and 13.5% (n=71) in elementary, middle, and high schools, respectively (p<0.001). Dietitians in urban elementary and middle schools had significantly (p<0.01) higher practicing behavior of using measuring utensils compared to those in rural locations. Considering low levels of soup contents with high amount of leftover, the desirable soup portions to be reduced were '50-100 mL' (n=66, 12.7%) for elementary school and '100-150 mL' for middle school (n=62, 12.0%) and high school (n=57, 11.0%, p<0.001). Conclusion: Dietitians' awareness for sodium reduction was high but their practicing behavior was relatively low. Thus, continuous efforts are required to develop reduced-sodium menu by promoting the use of measuring utensils when preparing meals and by planning no soup meal day or educating students and teachers about the importances of reducing sodium in school meals.
