We described a real-time 3D computer vision system called MIMIC(Motion interface f Motion information Capture system) that can capture and save motion of an actor. This system analyzes input images from vision sensors and searches feature information like a head, hands, and feet. Moreover, this estimates intermediated joints as an elbow and hee using feature information and makes 3D human model having 20 joints. This virtual human model mimics the motion of an actor in real-time. Therefore this system can realize the movement of an actor unaffectedly because of making intermediated joint for complete human body contrary to other marker-free motion capture system.
This paper presents the results of motion tests of a moored semi-submersible platform in regular waves. To investigate the effects of mooring system on the motion characteristics, the tests were performed under the various mooring conditions in regular head and beam waves. Two types of mooring system were employed: one is composed of soft springs and the other is of chains. In the case of chains the pretensions were varied to investigate the dynamic effects of mooring forces as well as the motion responses of the semi-submersible. The motion responses and mooring tensions were measured and analyzed by the double amplitude method. The measured motion responses were also compared with the results of calculation from three-dimensional potential theory. Finally, the dynamic behaviors of mooring chains were studied.
It is very important to investigate the hull response of a fishing vessel in the sea to ensure the safe navigation and fishing operation in rough sea by preserving excellent sea keeping qualities. For this purpose, the author measured various responses of three stem trawlers in waves using real sea experimental measuring system. The author analyzed the experimental data using the statistical and spectral analyzing method to get the characteristics of the motion responses of the vessels according to the wave height and the ship's speed. The results obtained can be summarized as follows ; (1) Rather higher response of the pitch motion due to the wave height appeared in the head sea and the bow sea than any other wave direction without relevance to ship's size. In case of the roll motion, the beam sea and the quartering sea have a high response value. The period of peak of the pitch motion and the roll motion according to the wave height in each vessel has almost same value respectively. (2) The change of response of the pitch motions deeply depend on the ship's speed in the head sea and the bow sea, but not in the other wave direction. (3) The change of response of the roll motions in the beam sea, the quartering sea and the following sea are affected by the influence of the ship's speed in 5k't to 8k't, but not related to the ship's speed in out of that range.
This paper presents a new system to estimate the head pose of human in interactive indoor environment that has dynamic illumination change and large working space. The main idea of this system is to suggest a new morphological feature for estimating head angle from stereo disparity map. When a disparity map is obtained from stereo camera, the matching confidence value can be derived by measurements of correlation of the stereo images. Applying a threshold to the confidence value, we also obtain the specific morphology of the disparity map. Therefore, we can obtain the morphological shape of disparity map. Through the analysis of this morphological property, the head pose can be estimated. It is simple and fast algorithm in comparison with other algorithm which apply facial template, 2D, 3D models and optical flow method. Our system can automatically segment and estimate head pose in a wide range of head motion without manual initialization like other optical flow system. As the result of experiments, we obtained the reliable head orientation data under the real-time performance.
Although the relationship between temporomandibular disorder and forward head posture (FHP) is controversial, it is generally accepted that altered head posture can affect mandible position and masticatory muscles activity. Because suprahyoid (SH) and infrahyoid (IH) muscles are stretched by increased passive tension in FHP, this study investigated their activity during mouth opening in FHP compared to neutral head posture (NHP). Twenty healthy subjects (10 males and 10 females) participated in this study. Head postures were evaluated with a cervical range of motion instrument. Electromyography (EMG) activity of bilateral SH and IH muscles was measured while an open mouth was maintained at each head posture. Paired t-test was used to identify significant differences in normalized EMG activity between head postures. Statistical significance was set at .01. Results showed the normalized EMG activity of SH and IH muscles were significantly lower in FHP compared to NHP. This finding indicates that FHP affects the EMG activity of hyoid muscles when they are stretched.
Purpose: Most studies have reported pain in the head-neck and upper-limbs according to smartphone usage, which is related to the proprioception sense in the head and neck, but there have been few studies. Therefore, the aim of this study was identify the adverse effects of the proprioceptive sense in the head-neck according to smartphone usage. Methods: Twenty-seven young adults (male: 9, female: 18) were enrolled in this study. The proprioceptive sense was measured through the joint reposition sense error and neural positon error in the head-neck during smartphone usage for 0, 5, and 20 minutes. The Noraxon MyoMotion system was used to record the joint position angle and neutral positon in the head-neck. One-way repeated ANOVA was used to identify the differences between the three smartphone use durations and the least-squares difference was used as a post hoc test. The data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 software. Results: The joint reposition sense error and neural positon error in the head-neck were significantly different among the 0, 5, and 20 minutes of smartphone usage (p<0.05). In the post hoc test, the joint reposition sense error and neural positon error showed a significant difference between smartphone use for 0 minute and 5 minute, and between smartphone use for 0 minute and 20 minutes. Conclusion: This study suggests that smartphone use within 5 minutes can have adverse effects on the proprioceptive sense. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the appropriate use time and break time when using smart phones.
Purpose: This study was done to assess the effect of changes in forward head posture (FHP), neck mobility and headache clinical parameters on episodic tension-type headache (ETTH) and chronic tension-type headache (CTTH) who did craniocervial exercises. Methods: Twelve CTTH subjects and twelve ETTH subjects were studied. Side-view pictures of subjects were taken in both sitting and standing positions, in order to assess FHP by measuring the craniovertebral angle. Cervical range of motion (CROM) was employed to measure cervical mobility. A headache diary was kept to assess headache intensity, frequency, and duration. All subjects did three types of craniocervical exercise over 8 weeks. Measurements were done at pre-treatment, and at 4 and 8 weeks post-treatment. Results: Forward head posture and headache-related clinical parameters showed a significant improvement after craniocervical exercise (p<0.05). Flexion/extension and left/right rotation of CROM was significantly increased after the intervention (p<0.05), whereas changes in left/right bending did not reach statistical significance. Conclusion: This study indicates that craniocervical exercise may be effective in the management of tension-type headache.
This paper deals with the whole-body vibration and ride quality evaluation in the vertical direction. The responses of the floor, hip, back, and head in four subjects were measured for various seats when the floor was excited by random vibration with r.m.s of 1.2m/s2 in the vertical direction. In the transmissibility between the hip and floor, the fundamental mode is observed at 4.4 Hz. In the transmissibility between the head and floor, the fundamental mode at 4.4Hz and the second mode at 7.6Hz are observed. It is shown that the head motion is 41% larger than the hip motion and the response of female subject is larger than that of male subject. The response without backrest also was compared with that with backrest. From these human responses ride quality of five seats were evaluated by the ride value such as transfer ration having frequency weighting function is the statistical sense. It is observed that the seat having high damping property can reduce the most acceleration exposed to hip in the statistical sense for all ride valves, while the seat having different seat spring doesn't show statistical difference.

Most of the accidents occur due to drowsiness while driving, avoiding road signs and due to driver's distraction. Driver's distraction depends on various factors which include talking with passengers while driving, mood disorder, nervousness, anger, over-excitement, anxiety, loud music, illness, fatigue and different driver's head rotations due to change in yaw, pitch and roll angle. The contribution of this paper is two-fold. Firstly, a data set is generated for conducting different experiments on driver's distraction. Secondly, novel approaches are presented that use features based on facial points; especially the features computed using motion vectors and interpolation to detect a special type of driver's distraction, i.e., driver's head rotation due to change in yaw angle. These facial points are detected by Active Shape Model (ASM) and Boosted Regression with Markov Networks (BoRMaN). Various types of classifiers are trained and tested on different frames to decide about a driver's distraction. These approaches are also scale invariant. The results show that the approach that uses the novel ideas of motion vectors and interpolation outperforms other approaches in detection of driver's head rotation. We are able to achieve a percentage accuracy of 98.45 using Neural Network.
Background: The purpose of this study is investigate the effects of cervical range of motion (ROM) and forward head posture (FHP) on cervical manual traction in normal adults. Methods: The subjects were randomly assigned to either the experimental group(Female 9, Male 6) who conducted the manual cervical traction or the control group(Female 9, Male 6) who did not conduct the any intervention. The subject in the EG have conducted the 1 set of 10 minutes of manual cervical traction per day, 2 times a week for 6 weeks. The cervical ROM was measured by the digital inclinometer and The factors of FHP was measured by cranial vertebral angle (CVA) and cranial rotation angle (CRA). Results: Comparing the cervical ROM and FHP between the experimental and control groups before and after the experiment, it could be seen that flexion, extension, right lateral flexion, left lateral flexion, CVA and CRA of the experimental group has been increased. Thus, cervical manual traction was resulted in the increased cervical ROM and decrease FHP. Conclusion: In this study, it was confirmed that cervical manual traction affects increase cervical ROM and decrease FHP that play a important role in neck stability and mobility.
