  • While various methods for sound source localization have been developed, most of them utilize on the time difference of arrival (TDOA) between microphones or the measured head related transfer functions (HRTF). In case of a real robot implementation, the former has a merit of light computation load to estimate the sound direction but can not consider the effect of platform on TDOAs, while the latter can, because characteristics of robot platform are included in HRTF. However, the latter needs large resources for the HRTF database of a specific robot platform. We propose the compensation method which has the light computation load while the effect of platform on TDOA can be taken into account. The proposed method is used with spherical head related transfer function (SHRTF) on the assumption that robot platform, for example a robot head, installed microphones can be modeled to a sphere. We verify that the proposed method decreases the estimation error caused by the robot platform through the simulation and experiment in real environment.

  • This paper proposes a new personalized HRTF estimation method which is based on a deep neural network (DNN) model and improved elevation reproduction using a notch filter. In the previous study, a DNN model was proposed that estimates the magnitude of HRTF by using anthropometric measurements [1]. However, since this method uses zero-phase without estimating the phase, it causes the internalization (i.e., the inside-the-head localization) of sound when listening the spatial sound. We devise a method to estimate both the magnitude and phase of HRTF based on the DNN model. Personalized HRIR was estimated using the anthropometric measurements including detailed data of the head, torso, shoulders and ears as inputs for the DNN model. After that, the estimated HRIR was filtered with an appropriate notch filter to improve elevation reproduction. In order to evaluate the performance, both of the objective and subjective evaluations are conducted. For the objective evaluation, the root mean square error (RMSE) and the log spectral distance (LSD) between the reference HRTF and the estimated HRTF are measured. For subjective evaluation, the MUSHRA test and preference test are conducted. As a result, the proposed method can make listeners experience more immersive audio than the previous methods.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and make the head form by setting the region of the head for detailed measurement of the head to make the type of closely fit hat and typifying the head form of Korean women's with each region of the head based on the measurements of each region of the head according characteristics. A total of 285 Korean women's in the age group of 18 to 35 years old. It were measured through the direct measurement method by selecting 67 measurement items. As a result of the findings obtained from cluster analysis could be classified into 3 type. Type 1($46\%$) is U-shaped form, that is high in head height on sides and circumference is smallest, whose facial region and occiput is flattest of three types. Type 2($22.4\%$) is inverted triangle form, that is flat in head ridge, low in head height on sides and wide in the frontal width. Type 3($31.6\%$) is oval form, that is largest in size, has the projected occiput and is of three-dimensional form.

  • Traditional cluster-based routing method is a representative method for increasing the energy efficiencies. In these cluster-based routing methods, the selected cluster head collect/aggregate the information and send the aggregated information to the base station. But they have to solve the unnecessary energy dissipation of frequent information exchange between the cluster head and whole member nodes in cluster. In this paper, we minimize the frequency of the information exchange for reducing the unnecessary transmit/receive frequencies as calculate the overlapped area or number of overlapped member nodes between the selected cluster head and previous cluster head in the setup phase. So, we propose the modified cluster selection protocol method that optimizes the energy dissipation in the setup phase and reuses the saved energy in the steady-state phase efficiently that prolongs the whole wireless sensor network lifetime by uniformly selecting the cluster head.

  • We have developed a method to evaluate pumping rates from a system of pumping-well family. For a given system actual pumping rates depend on pump characteristics and the sum of the static head and the dynamic head. The static head is the elevation difference between the natural groundwater level and the outlet of the pipeline that connects all the wells. Major components of the dynamic head are groundwater drawdown in the well and pipeline head loss. The dynamic head and the pump characteristics depend on the pumping rates. Actual pumping rates are determined at the intersections of the system total-head curves and the pump characteristic curves. The Newton-Raphson's method is used to solve the nonlinear simultaneous equations. The method is applied to a hypothetical well family. Impacts of various design and operational parameters on the pumping rates are analyzed.

  • This paper presents map creation algorithm and initial attitude estimation method for the proposed optical head tracker system. The optical head tracker system consists of the IR stereo cameras and infrared LEDs as features on the helmet. In order for the stereo camera to track the luminous LEDs, it must take in to account the light radiation from the LEDs to determine the position of the center points. The proposed map creation algorithm makes map data about the position of features center points on the helmet frame. Also, initial attitude estimation method is proposed to estimate the initial attitude and position of a pilot head from the camera frame by the use of the feature pattern on the helmet. Therefore, the head motion can be expressed with respect to the body frame of a flight.

  • One of the most frequently performed tasks in human-robot interaction (HRI), intelligent vehicles, and security systems is face related applications such as face recognition, facial expression recognition, driver state monitoring, and gaze estimation. In these applications, accurate head pose estimation is an important issue. However, conventional methods have been lacking in accuracy, robustness or processing speed in practical use. In this paper, we propose a novel method for estimating head pose with a monocular camera. The proposed algorithm is based on a deep neural network for multi-task learning using a small grayscale image. This network jointly detects multi-view faces and estimates head pose in hard environmental conditions such as illumination change and large pose change. The proposed framework quantitatively and qualitatively outperforms the state-of-the-art method with an average head pose mean error of less than $4.5^{\circ}$ in real-time.

  • Postoperative airway aspiration is not uncommon in patients with head and neck cancer. Airway aspiration has serious consequences, such as swallowing disorders, nutrition-related health problem, or reducing the quality of life due to maintenance of tracheal or nasogastric tubes. The postoperative oropharyngeal defect due to the surgery may interfere with normal swallowing reflex, or the laryngeal dysfunction caused by radiation therapy may cause severe airway aspiration, which may lead to complications such as dyspnea and pneumonia. Complete removal of the disease is also important in the treatment of head and neck cancer, but it is necessary to select a method to avoid and predict the occurrence of airway aspiration according to the treatment method. The most important factor to prevent airway aspiration after surgery is to preserve the proper volume of the oropharynx and to preserve at least one of the cricoarytenoid joint function. It is also the most effective way to reduce additional complications by seeking appropriate surgical treatment according to airway aspiration status. The purpose of this study is to review the operative methods that can induce airway aspiration and consider the prevention and treatment strategy through review of the literature.
