  • An extension of new test methods for surfaces with an apparatus based on photon-induced desorption and ionisation in the electric field, is constructed and tested, It also investigates how to show the efficiency of the arrangement adsorbates $H_2$ and He on W(110). The field emitter temperature was 80 K. The wavelength of light used was 193 nm with field strengths between 10 and 50 V/nm. Many ion fragments($CO^+, He^+, H_2^^+, H_2O^+, W^{3+}\; and\; W^{2+}$) were produced by an electronic stimulation of the adsorbate with the help of a photon energy of 6.4 eV at He and $H_2$/W(110). A transient recorder enables the registration of the entire mass spectrum.

  • This essay describes G. Mendel's life and his law of inheritance. He was born in a poor family in 1822 in a hamlet in Czechs. At that time the Habsburg Empire dominated over the East Europe in which Vienna was the capital. Vienna had thus been the center of culture and learning, and attracted many artists and scholars such as W. Mozart (1756- 1791), L. Beethoven (1770-1827), C. Doppler (1803-1853), S. Freud (1856-1939), G. Mahler (1860-1911), G. Klimt (1862-1918) and E. Schiele (1890-1918). Beethoven came to Vienna to learn from Mozart. Klimt was influence by Schilele. When Mahler consulted Freud about his mental problem, Freud said to him "Your mental condition was not normal, but the condition made you creative. So, do not worry too much about it." Like that, there were many interactions among them, and Mendel was no exception. Though Mendel was poor, he was fortunate in his education and scientific research, because he could have excellent supporters in his family and out of it. He learned mathematics and physics at Vienna University under the guidance of C. Doppler. He was not totally alone when he discovered his law of inheritance. It may not be true either that his law was neglected and rediscovered in the year of 1900. As his one and only paper indicates, he was one of the earliest interdisciplinary scientists.

  • Honey Encryption (HE) is a technique to overcome the weakness of a brute-force attack of the existing password-based encryption (PBE). By outputting a plausible plaintext even if the wrong key is entered, it provides message recovery security which an attacker can tolerate even if the attacker tries a brute-force attack against a small entropy secret key. However, application of a cipher that requires encryption padding to the HE present a bigger problem than the conventional PBE method. In this paper, we apply a typical block cipher (AES-128) and a stream cipher (A5 / 1) to verify the problem of padding through the analysis of the sentence frequency and we propose a safe operation method of the HE.

Proteomic Approach to Study the Antioxidant Activities of Dioscoreae Rhizoma on HeLa Cells (산약(山藥)의 항산화 작용에 대한 단백질체 분석 연구)

  • Purpose: This study was examined to verify the anti-oxidative effect of Dioscoreae Rhizoma on HeLa cells by proteomic approach. Methods: Aqueous extract was used to treat HeLa cell with different concentrations treated with water or MeOH extract of Dioscoreae Rhizoma. HeLa cells were co-treated with $H_2O_2$ and Dioscoreae Rhizoma extracts. Proteomics was done to identify, characterize, and quantitate proteins expressed in HeLa cells treated by $H_2O_2$ and Dioscoreae Rhizoma. Results: When HeLa cells were Co-treated with $H_2O_2$ and Dioscoreae batatas extracts, 16 proteins identified by 2-DE and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and database search. PRDX, HSP27 was major proteins of antioxidant effect by Dioscoreae batatas. Conclusion: Our results suggest that Dioscoreae Rhizoma extracts induce antioxidant effects by regulating proteins such as PRDX, HSP27.

Temperature Regulation of the Young and the Aged during Hands and Feet Exposure to the Cold (한랭환경에서 손발노출에 의한 청년과 노인의 체온조절반응 비교)

  • A study was conducted to investigate the effect of cooling hands of feet on human thermoregulation in the cold. Eight young (22$\pm$1 yr) and eight aged (69$\pm$4 yr) men volun-teered as subjects They stayed at 1$0^{\circ}C$ in the supine posture during the experiment which included hands or feet exposure to the air for 20 minutes. Hand Exposure (HE) and Foot Exposure (FE) were conducted in radomized order and the baseline was kept before HE and FE. Core temperatures, limb skin temperatures adn thermal sensations were measured. Obtained data were analyze using t-test and correlation. Rectal and esophageal tem-peratures increased in the young (YG) and in aged (AG). Change rate of esophageal temperature (Tes) was maintained higher during FE than HE while rectal temperature showed no differences between YG and AG, and between HE and FE. Hand and foot skintemperature in YG and AG decreased similarly during HE and Fe. Forearm skin temperature during HE decreased while leg skin temperature during FE showed no change HE and Fe. It was concluded that the lower cooling. Furthermore, the increase of Tes was greater in young men than aged men. It is also suggested that the wearing behavior can be differently modified between young and aged men.

Experimental Study Shock Waves in Superfluid Helium Induced by a Gasdynamic Shock Wave Impingement

  • Two modes of shock waves, a compression shock wave and a thermal shock wave, propagating in He II have been investigated. The shock waves are at a time generated by the impingement of a gasdynamic shock wave onto a He II free surface in the newly developed superfluid shock tube facility. Superconductive temperature sensors, piezo-type pressure transducers and visualization photograph were used for the measurement of them and the phenomena induced by them were investigated in detail. It is found that the compression by a compression shock wave in He II causes temperature drop because He II has negative thermal expansion coefficient. the thermal shock wave is found to be of a single triangular waveform with a limited shock strength. The waveform is similar to that generated by stepwise strong heating from an electrical heater for relatively long heating time. In the experiments at the temperatures near the lambda temperature, no thermal shock wave is sometimes detected in shock compressed He II. It can be understood that shock compression makes He Ii convert to He I in which no thermal shock wave is excited.

Anti-VEGF Therapy with Bevacizumab - Limited Cardiovascular Toxicity

  • Purpose: This analysis was conducted to evaluate cardiovascular toxicity of commonly used anti-VEGF therapeutic agent, bevacizumab, in treating patients with cancer. Methods: Clinical studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of bevacizumab-based regimens on response and safety for patients with cancer were identified using a predefined search strategy, allowing cardiovascular toxicity and other side effects of treatment to be estimated. Results: In bevacizumab based regimens, 4 clinical studies including 282 patients with advanced cancer (including gliomas, cervical, breast and ovarian cancer) were considered eligible for inclusion. These bevacizumab-based regimens included docetaxel, irinitecan and carboplatin. Systematic analysis suggested that, of 282 patients treated by bevacizumab based regimens, hypertension and thrombo-embolism occurred in 2.5% (7/282), while only 3 patients reported cardiovascular events (1.1%). No treatment related death occurred in bevacizumab based treatment. Conclusion: This systemic analysis suggests that bevacizumab based regimens are associated with reasonable and accepted cardiovascular toxicity when treating patients with gliomas, cervical, breast and ovarian cancer.

Effect of Intravenous He-Ne Laser Irradiation on Cholesterol Value of Hyperlipidemia Patients (정맥 혈관내 He-Ne 레이저 조사가 고지혈증 환자의 지질 수치에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to determine the effect of intravenous He-Ne laser irradiation, values of serum total cholesterol, Triglyceride, LDL-cholesterol and HDL-cholesterol were measured. Twenty three patients with hyperlipidemia who visited Gunpo Oriental Medical Center of Wonkwang University were treated with He-Ne laser irridiation and analyzed by Paired T-test of SPSS program. The following results were obtained : The serum Total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol of patients treated with He-Ne laser irradiation showed a significant(P<0.05) decrease, and the serum Triglyceride and HDL-cholesterol of patients treated with He-Ne laser irradiation showed no significant(P<0.05) effects.

  • The purpose of this article is to examine the relationship between sin and grace represented in The Power and the Glory. This work is composed of two thriller patterns of the pursuer and the pursed. The first pursuit is that the whisky priest, the representative of religious order is pursued by the lieutenant, the representative of secular order. And the second pursuit is that the whisky priest is trying to escape from God. In the course of his flight from God the whisky priest discovers his sinful nature and this self-recognition helps him restore his proper relationship with God. When he was a young priest he had religious piety, but he didn't feel true love for others. Ironically, after he is corrupted he finds his sinful nature and regrets his wrong behavior. He then comes to understand God's will and his responsibility to have love for the miserable human beings. The whisky priest is willing to accept his destiny as a martyr, after having repented his sins to God. Though the lieutenant captures the whisky priest and executes him, he doesn't feel triumph or hope but feels empty. The Power and the Glory shows us the irony that the lieutenant's power is a symbol of his weakness, while the priest's weakness is a symbol of his power.

명장(明將) 남방위(藍芳威)의 조선 활동과 현존 문물 고찰

  • In this paper, the focus was on the review of Ming General Nan Fangwei's activities during the Choson period and existing relevant historical artifacts & literacy works. Nan Fangwei's hometown was Jiangxi(江西) Changjiang(昌江; Jingdezhen景德鎭). Unfortunately, it has not been known where his descendants migrated later. During Jingdezhen Riot(景德鎭民亂), he went to serve as the head of the grass roots. After surrendering, he became a general in the Ming military base. During Jeongyujae War(丁酉再亂), he entered Chosun as a Youji general(遊擊) and participated in dozens of large and small battles. However, the defeat of Jungro-gun (中路軍) led him to a feud with the Ming's military authorities and to return him, which gave him a hard time to be forcibly dislodged to a remote region. Nan Fangwei established Namwon Guanwang Shrine(南原 關王廟). Since then, it has been preserved in Namwon Wangjeong-dong(王亭洞) through several reconstruction and reconstruction works. In addition, he took good care of people by strictly cracking down on their subordinates with high integrity and virtuous deeds at the military base. Being deeply touched by his morality and virtue, the people of Gongju(公州) established 'Youji general Nan Fangwei Jongdeokbi(〈遊擊將藍公種德碑〉)'. In addition, when he had his leisure time, he collected Korean Chinese poems from various figures and edited and published 'Chosun Poetry Collection(《朝鮮詩選全集》)', which he played a catalyst to promote high-quality Korean poems to Chinese literacy community.
