The purpose of this study is to present the possibility of adopting beacons to implement the fire evacuation guidance system in order to reduce the evacuation time for a fire in complex buildings. A beacon-based evacuation system can quickly detect a fire's origin, optimal path of evacuation involved with the exits and the location of evacuees using information collected by the proposed system. The assessment is conducted by integrating different scenario models including fire simulation. Based on the research result, beacon is an effective tool to warn potential hazards or to provide early detection and a safe escape.
In this study, we have developed the personal computer-based industrial accident information management system(AIMS) which produces the industrial accident reports, various statistical reports and graphic charts such as pie, bar and trent charts. Recognizing the fact that computer systems are an integral part of today's business environment, the computerized industrial accident information management system serves as tools to help safety professionals accurately and rapidly obtain the information necessary to make decisions. The system can be used for the prevention of industrial accidents by early detection of potential hazards and by scientific and systematic analysis of causal factors.

The construction industry is increasingly adopting vision AI technologies to improve efficiency and safety management. However, the complex and dynamic nature of construction sites can pose challenges to the accuracy of vision AI models trained on datasets that do not consider the background. This study investigates the effect of background on object recognition for vision AI in construction sites by constructing a learning dataset and a test dataset with varying backgrounds. Frame scaffolding was chosen as the object of recognition due to its wide use, potential safety hazards, and difficulty in recognition. The experimental results showed that considering the background during model training significantly improved the accuracy of object recognition.
Recently, landslides frequently occur on natural slope and/or man-made cut slope during periods of intense rainfall. With a rapidly increasing population on or near steep terrain, landslides have become one of the most significant natural hazards. Thus, it is necessary to protect people from landslides and to minimize the damage of houses, roads and other facilities. To accomplish this goal, many landslide monitoring systems have been developed throughout the world. In this paper, a simple landslide detection system that enables people to escape the endangered area is introduced. The system is focused on the debris flows which happen frequently during periods of intense rainfall. The system is based on the wireless sensor network (WSN) that is composed of wireless sensor nodes, gateway, and remote server system. Wireless sensor nodes and gateway are deployed by commercially available Microstrain G-Link products. Five wireless sensor nodes and one gateway are installed at the test slope for detecting ground movement. The acceleration and inclination data of test slope can be obtained, which provides a potential to detect landslide. In addition, thresholds to determine whether the test slope is stable or not are suggested by a series of numerical simulations, using geotechnical analysis software package. It is obtained that the alarm should be issued if the x-direction displacement of sensor node is greater than 20mili-meters and the inclination of sensor node is greater than 3 degrees. It is expected that the landslide detection method using wireless senor network can provide early warning where landslides are prone to occur.

Islanding of PV systems occurs when the utility grid is removed but the PV systems continue to operate and provide power to local loads. Islanding is one of the serious problems in an electric power system connected with dispersed power sources. This can present safety hazards and the possibility of damage to other electric equipments. In the passive method, the voltage and frequency of PCC are measured and it determines islanding phenomena if their values excess the allowed limits. If the real and reactive power of RLC load and those of the PV system are closely matched, islanding phenomena can't be detected by the passive methods. Several active methods were proposed to detect islanding operation in the region where the passive method can not detect it. The most effective method is SFS method which was suggested by Sandia National Laboratory. In this paper, a new islanding detection method using automatic phase-shift is proposed and its validity is verified through the simulation and experimental results.

The recognition of the risk hazards is a vital step to effectively prevent accidents on a construction site. The advanced development in computer vision systems and the availability of the large visual database related to construction site made it possible to take quick action in the event of human error and disaster situations that may occur during management supervision. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the risk factors that need to be managed at the construction site and review appropriate and effective technical methods for each risk factor. This research focuses on analyzing Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA) related to risk zone identification rules that can be adopted by the image recognition technology and classify their risk factors depending on the effective technical method. Therefore, this research developed a pattern-oriented classification of OSHA rules that can employ a large scale of safety hazard recognition. This research uses joint reasoning of risk zone Identification and numeric input by utilizing a stereo camera integrated with an image detection algorithm such as (YOLOv3) and Pyramid Stereo Matching Network (PSMNet). The research result identifies risk zones and raises alarm if a target object enters this zone. It also determines numerical information of a target, which recognizes the length, spacing, and angle of the target. Applying image detection joint logic algorithms might leverage the speed and accuracy of hazard detection due to merging more than one factor to prevent accidents in the job site.
This study was conducted to assess the levels of microbiological hazards of preprocessed Namuls, which were served at the school foodservice. 19 preprocessed ground or root vegetables were collected from 21 schools in May to June of 2011. Heavy contamination of aerobic plate counts (from 3.39 to 8.42 logCFU/g) and total coliform groups (from 3.16 to 7.84 logCFU/g), enterobacteriaceaes (from 2.53 to 7.55 logCFU/g) were detected in preprocessed Namuls. In addition, the detection rates of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus (emetic form) were 4.3%, 11.7% and 2.1%, respectively. In addition, sanitary indicative bacterium at preprocessing steps of root vegetables (lotus root, burdock root, bellflower root) and blanched Namuls (bracken, sweet potato vine, chinamul) were analyzed. Aerobic plate counts, coliform groups, and enterobacteriaceaes were not effectively removed during preprocessing including washing and soaking steps. In the case of blanched Namuls (bracken, sweet potato vine, chinamul), contamination levels increased more after drying process and no significant reduction effect on the levels of microbial contamination was observed during preprocessing steps. Thus, effect of preprocessing steps on the microbiological hazards in Namuls must be reevaluated to improve the microbiological quality of preprocessed Namuls at the school foodservice and retail markets.
Recently, there have been cases reported in the news of individuals experiencing symptoms of food poisoning after consuming raw beef purchased from online platforms, or reviews claiming that cherry tomatoes tasted bitter. This suggests the potential for analyzing food reviews on online platforms to detect food hazards, enabling government agencies, food manufacturers, and distributors to manage consumer food safety risks. This study proposes a classification model that uses sentiment analysis and large language models to analyze food reviews and detect negative ones, multi-labeling key food safety hazards (food poisoning, spoilage, chemical odors, foreign objects). The sentiment analysis model effectively minimized the misclassification of negative reviews with a low False Positive rate using a 'funnel' model. The multi-labeling model for food safety hazards showed high performance with both recall and accuracy over 96% when using GPT-4 Turbo compared to GPT-3.5. Government agencies, food manufacturers, and distributors can use the proposed model to monitor consumer reviews in real-time, detect potential food safety issues early, and manage risks. Such a system can protect corporate brand reputation, enhance consumer protection, and ultimately improve consumer health and safety.
Objectives: To describe the survival experience of cervix cancer patients in a screened rural population in India. Methods: Included 558 cervical cancer patients diagnosed in 2000-2013 in a cohort of 100,258 women invited for screening during 2000-2003. The primary end point was death from cervical cancer. We used the Kaplan-Meier method to estimate cumulative observed survival and Cox proportional hazards regression to assess the effect of patient characteristics on survival after diagnosis. Results: Of the 558 cases included, 143 (26%) and 114 (20%) were diagnosed in stages IA and IB respectively; 252 (45.2%) were dead, and 306 (54.8%) were alive at the last follow-up. The overall 5-year observed survival was 60.5%. The 5-year survival of stage IA patients was 95.1% and 5.3% for stage IV patients. All surgically treated stage IA patients, 94.1% of stage IB patients receiving intracavitary radiotherapy, 62% of stage IIB, 49% of stage III and 25% of stage IV patients receiving radiotherapy survived for 5 years. Conclusion: Higher 5-year survival in our study than elsewhere in India is due to the high proportion of early stage cancers detected by screening combined with adequate treatment, resulting into a favourable prognosis.

Biofilm formation on various surfaces is a well-known phenomenon and it has caused pollution problems, health and safety hazards, and substantial economic loss in many areas including the food industry. In the present study, Gamma irradiation at a dose of 2.0 kGy reduced the bacterial counts of Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa suspensions by 6.7 and >6.5 log CFU/mL, respectively, and 30 ppm of sodium hypochlorite effectively reduced the counts of both bacterial suspensions to below the limit of detection ($<2\;log\;CFU/cm^2$). However, in bacterial biofilms attached to stainless steel, gamma irradiation at a dose of 10.0 kGy reduced the counts of S. aureus attached fur 1 hr and overnight by ${\geq}5.1\;and\;5.0\;log\;CFU/cm^2$, respectively. Gamma irradiation at a dose of 1.0 kGy reduced the counts of P. aeruginosa counts to below the limit of detection ($<2\;log\;CFU/cm^2$). On the contrary, S. aureus and P. aeruginosa cells attached to stainless steel chips were difficult to eliminate using sodium hypochlorite. Four hundred ppm of sodium hypochlorite reduced the counts of S. aureus and P. aeruginosa attached for 1 hr by 2.5 and $3.3\;log\;CFU/cm^2$, respectively.
