  • In this paper input characteristics of Buck converter to drive small capacity universal motor is analyzed about current harmonics and EMI which is due to a switching effect. And as a strategy for EMI reduction, filter is designed. As a results it is approved that buck converter is adequate method to reduce low order harmonics.

  • Recently, Power change devices using thyristor and transistor have grown with the rapid development of power electronics. But the devices using these semiconductors generate harmonics from the non-linear load, which gives rise to various obstacles. In this paper, therefore, as 3 taps are connected in input line, we can multiply the pulse in input line, by which harmonics is reduced.

  • Many Harmonics components is contained within the stator currents of the High-speed Reluctance Synchronous Motor with salient pole rotor. They cause the power factor of RSM to get worse. In this paper, the mathematical model of RSM is investigated. And SV-PWM control method is applied to reduce Harmonics components in the stator currents. Simulation results shows the fast response of speed and the reduction of Harmonics components at steady state

  • This paper deals with current harmonics and unbalanced source voltages compensation using combined filter system. Filter system consists of a series active filter and parallel passive filters. Passive filters were a traditional method to compensate current harmonics, so those were installed in power system widely. The active filter can be a substitution to improve filtering characteristics and complement drawbacks of the passive filter. The combined system of the active power filter and passive filter can has a better compensation performances and economical goods. The series type active power filter injects compensation voltage into power system by transformers. It's compensation principle is able to applicate for voltage compensation. A new control algorithm for series active filter to compensate current harmonics and unbalanced source voltages is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, a compensation voltage for harmonic reduction is calculated directly by instantaneous reactive power theory, and a compensation voltage for unbalanced source voltage is calculated in based on a synchronous reference frame. By experiments, we show validity of proposed compensation method.

  • Recently, Many water treatment facilities are operated by automatic control or by remote control. These high technology control systems require more stable power supply than before. Badly most automatic control systems adopted in water treatment facilities are non-linear load which generates electrical harmonics inevitably. This study is intended to measure and analyze the electrical harmonics occurred at the chemicals control device which is inverter application circuit, and to show the Method for reduction.

  • In this paper, adaptive prefiltering method is proposed for reduction of dc-link ripple in cascaded NPC/H-bridge system. Under non-linear load such as electric machine or harmonically distorted conditions, dc-link capacitor voltage with harmonics is inevitable result. In terms of reducing dc-link ripple, prefiltering method combined low pass filter with multiple second order generalized integrator is proposed. Proposed prefiltering method effectively reduces harmonics of dc-link ripple and improves characteristic of THD, simulated by using MATLAB R2014a and PSIM 9.1.4.

  • For many years, electric utility has used sustained interruption rates as a reliability index. Today, however, many electricity consumers are adversely affected by more subtle voltage disturbances such as harmonic distortion. This paper deals with observations of events that occur in the Dimmer circuits and phase control which could affect harmonics problem to the commercial power system. In order to reduce the effect of harmonics and design filters, Solid State Relay Dimmer(SCRs or TRIACs) and Noise Filter are described, and the effects of harmonics is also analyzed. IGBT Dimmer which is appropriate method to reduce harmonics and improve efficiency is introduced.

  • 동기발전기의 고조파는 철손과 동손을 증가시켜 발열의 원인이 된다. 이를 감소시키기 위하여 전기자의 권선법을 분포권, 단절권을 이용하여 고조파를 감소시키는 방법이 있으나 본 논문에서는 영구자석의 형상을 기존에 연구되었던 방법이 아닌 새로운 형상 변형을 통해 고조파를 감소시키며 기전압의 파형을 개선하고자 한다. 형상 변형 방법으로 영구자석의 양단을 절단하고 설정값에 따라 영구자석의 면적을 증가, 감소시켜 공극의 길이를 조절한다. 이때 자속밀도의 분포를 다르게 하여 이에 따른 기전압과 왜형률을 비교하였다. 이를 통해 논문에 기술된 영구자석의 형상 변화 모델들을 비교하고 가장 효과적인 변형 방법을 나타냈다.

  • For high efficiency and easy speed control of brushless DC (BLDC) motor, the demand of BLDC motor is increasing. Especially demand of interior permanent magnet (IPM) BLDC with high efficiency and high power in electric motion vehicle is increasing. However, IPM BLDC basically has a high cogging torque that results from the interaction of permanent magnet magnetomotive force (MMF) harmonics and air-gap permeance harmonics due to slotting. This cogging torque generates vibration and acoustic noises during the driving of motor. Thus reduction of the cogging torque has to be considered in IPM BLDC motor design by analytical methods. This paper proposes the cogging torque reduction method for IPM BLDC motor. For reduction of cogging torque of IPM BLDC motor, this paper describes new technique of the flux barriers design. The proposed method uses sinusoidal form of flux density to reduce the cogging torque. To make the sinusoidal air-gap flux density, flux barriers are applied in the rotor and flux barriers that installed in the rotor produce the sinusoidal form of flux density. Changing the number of flux barrier, the cogging torque is analyzed by finite element method. Also characteristics of designed model by the proposed method are analyzed by finite element method.

Elimination of Low Order Harmonics in Multilevel Inverters Using Genetic Algorithm

  • The selective harmonic elimination pulse width modulation (SHEPWM) switching strategy has been applied to multilevel inverters to remove low harmonics. Naturally, the related equations do not have feasible solutions for some operating points associated with the modulation index (M). However, with these infeasible points, minimizing instead of eliminating harmonics is performed. Thus, harmful harmonics such as the $5^{th}$ harmonic still remains in the output waveform. Therefore, it is proposed in this paper to ignore solving the equation associated with the highest order harmonics. A reduction in the eliminated harmonics results in an increase in the degrees of freedom. As a result, the lower order harmonics are eliminated in more operating points. A 9-level inverter is chosen as a case study. The genetic algorithm (GA) for optimization purposes is used. Simulation results verify the proposed method.
