  • Telecom supplies need to conform to low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and high Power Factor (PF) as per IEC 61000-3-2 and IEEE 519-1992 standards. These high rating power supplies use a three phase utility in which low THD and high PF are realized via various passive and active wave shaping schemes. In this paper, a new design for three phase telecom power supplies is presented with circuit parameter values optimized for high performance in terms of a low THD, high PF, low ripple and high line and load regulation using a suitable combination of various strategies. The performance of the power supply is validated by extensive simulations.

  • Conventional robots actuated by motors with the speed reducer such as harmonic drive had weakness in delivering loads, pressing, grinding, and cutting jobs. To overcome this, the developer a new type of robot actuated by the ball screw. The robot is an articulated shape, which is composed of four axes. The base axis is actuated similarly with conventional robot, but the others are actuated by four bars mechanism composed of the ball screw. We setup the dynamics model of the robot. The robot has parameter uncertainties and nonlinearlity due to the ball screw actuator. To coordinate the robot, we applied sliding-mode control.

  • The differential equations governing free vibrations of the elastic arches with unsymmetric axis are derived in the rectangular coordinates rather than in polar coordinates, in which the effect of rotatory inertia is included. Frequencies and mode shapes are computed numerically for parabolic arches with both clamped ends and both hinged ends. Comparisons of natural frequencies between this study and SAP 2000 are made to validate theories and numerical methods developed herein. (omitted)

  • When a squirrel cage induction motor is loaded, the electromagnetic noise can increase depending on the load current. It is due to the air gap harmonic fluxes from the rotor current induced during loading. This unfavorable noise can be anticipated by calculating the radial force waves in the air gap, vibration mode shapes of them, and stator core natural frequencies of each mode. With the experimental tests with the different rotor slot numbers, the variation of electromagnetic noise is studied between on-loaded and loaded running.

  • This paper presents a new high-performance intelligent controlled current-source (CCS) system which can compensate for modelling errors of armature resistance, leakage and magnetizing inductances and for space harmonic components of speed EMF's. A shuttle-motion simulation is presented in the mass-reduced-mode in which an equivalent vehicle weight is reduced, by 40kg to 7kg. This study provides one of the most important key-tech-nologies in driving practical linear synchronous motor (LSM) Maglev vehicle.

  • This paper deals with the slip power recovery system using switch mode converter in the inverter DC side, which recovers slip power of induction machine to AC line with the aid of the boost converter. As a results, the motor speed can be controlled by the duty ratio of boost switch, not by inverter firing angle. This results that the reactive power produced by phase controlled inverter and diode rectifier can be greatly reduced and linear speed regulation can be obtained. Moreover, the harmonic components of line current caused by the commutation in inverter and rectifier can be considerably suppressed. Therefore, most of the problems in conventional system can be solved.

  • A switch-mode AC/DC converter with high input power factor and sinusoidal input current waveforms is analyzed and modelled for computer simulation. The developed mathematical model for this converter can be used to examine the transient and steady-state performance for selecting the proper ratings of filter, boost inductor and semiconductor devices or the effects of this converter under normal and fault operating conditions on the associated power systems. The proposed model and computer programs are confirmed by comparing with the experimental results.

  • This paper reports results of the structural response of empty steel tanks under vertical ground motions. The tanks are modeled using a finite element discretization using shell elements, and the vertical motion is applied and analyzed using nonlinear dynamics. Several excitation frequencies are considered, with emphasis on those that may lead to resonance of the roof. The computational results illustrate that as the base motion frequency is tuned with the frequency of the first roof-mode of the tank, the system displays large-amplitude displacements. For frequencies away from such mode, small amplitude displacements are obtained. The effect of the height of the cylinder on the dynamic response of the tank to vertical ground motion has also been investigated. The vertical acceleration of the ground motion that induces significant changes in the stiffness of the tank was found to be almost constant regardless of the height of the cylinder.

  • This paper deals with the modal analysis and the displacement of stator due to electromagnetic forces in Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM). A free-free model of the stator based on structural 3-dimensional Finite Element Method(FEM) is used for investigation the natural frequencies and the mode shapes of the stator. In addition, The displacement caused by magnetic force acting on stator pole is analyzed by the structural FEM coupled with the magnetic force. From these results, the resonance speed is obtained by the relation of the natural frequencies of the harmonic frequencies of magnetic force. And, the eccentricity with respect to rotor is predicted from the analysis result of the mechanical displacement of stator. The natural frequencies of stator are compared with experimental ones measured by modal testing.
