  • In this paper, a design method for a CPW-fed slot antenna for harmonic suppression is studied. The structure of the proposed slot antenna is a rectangular slot antenna appended with stepped impedance resonators (SIRs) at both ends of the slot symmetrically. Optimal design parameters are obtained by analyzing the effects of the length and width of the SIRs on the input reflection coefficient. The optimized harmonic-suppressed slot antenna operating at 2.45 GHz WLAN band is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a dimension of 42 mm by 30 mm. The slot length of the proposed harmonic-suppressed slot antenna is reduced to 33.3% compared to that of a conventional rectangular slot antenna owing to the appended SIRs. Experiment results show that the antenna has a desired impedance characteristic with a frequency band of 2.39-2.49 GHz for a VSWR < 2, and a measured gain of 2.5 dBi at 2.45 GHz.

  • Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) has been used to measure and monitor plant growth, vegetation cover, and biomass from multispectral satellite data. It is also a valuable index in forest applications, providing forest resource information. In this research, an approach for monitoring forest change using MODIS NDVI time series data is explored. NDVI difference-based approaches for a specific point in time have possible accuracy problems and are lacking in monitoring long-term forest cover change. It means that a multi-time NDVI pattern change needs to be considered. In this study, an efficient methodology to consider long-term NDVI pattern is suggested using a harmonic model. The suggested method reconstructs MODIS NDVI time series data through application of the harmonic model, which corrects missing and erroneous data. Then NDVI pattern is analyzed based on estimated values of the harmonic model. The suggested method was applied to 49 NDVI time series data from Aug. 21, 2009 to Sep. 6, 2011 and its usefulness was shown through an experiment.

  • In this paper, a highly efficiency power amplifier is presented for multi-band antenna system. The class F power amplifier operating in dual-band designed with one LDMOSFET. An operating frequency of power amplifier is 900 MHz and 2.14 GHz respectively Matching networks and harmonic control circuits of amplifier are designed by using the unit cell of composite right/left-handed(CRLH) transmission line(TL) realized with lumped elements. The CRLH TL can lead to metamaterial transmission line with the dual-band holing capability. The dual-band operation of the CRLH TL is achieved by the frequency offset and the nonlinear phase slope of the CRLH TL for the matching network of the power amplifier. Because the control of all harmonic components for high efficiency is very difficult, we have controled only the second- and third-harmonics to obtain the high efficiency with the CRLH TL. Also, the proposed power amplifier has been realized by using the harmonic control circuit for not only the output matching network, but also the input matching network for better efficiency.

  • In this paper, the estimation method for the power signal harmonics is proposed by using the time-varying optimal finite impulse response (FIR) filter. To estimate the magnitude and phase-angle of the harmonic components, the time-varying optimal FIR filter is designed for the state space representation of the noisy power signal which the magnitude and phase is considered as a stochastic process. Since the time-varying optimal FIR filter used in the proposed method does not use any priori information of the initial condition and has FIR structure, the proposed method could overcome the demerits of Kalman filter based method such as poor estimation and divergence problem. Due to the FIR structure, the proposed method is more robust against to the model uncertainty than the Kalman filter. Moreover, the proposed method gives more general solution than the time-invariant optimal FIR filter based harmonic estimation method. To verify the performance and robustness of the proposed method, the proposed method is compared with time-varying Kalman filter based method through simulation.

  • In this paper, a novel voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) using the harmonic control circuit based on the composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission lines (TLs) is presented to reduce the phase noise without the reduction of the frequency tuning range and miniaturize the circuit size. The phase noise is reduced by the novel harmonic control circuit having the short impedances for the second- and third-harmonic components. The proposed harmonic control circuit is designed by using the CRLH TLs with the dual-band characteristic by the frequency offset and phase slope of the CRLH TLs. The high-Q resonator has been used to reduce the phase noise, but has the problem of the frequency tuning range reduction. However, the frequency tuning range of the proposed VCO has not been reduced because the phase noise has been reduced without the high-Q resonator. The miniaturization of the circuit size is achieved by using the CRLH TLs instead of the conventional right-handed (RH) TLs. The phase noise of VCO is -119.17 ~ -117.50 dBc/Hz at 100 kHz in the tuning range of 5.731 ~ 5.938 GHz.

  • As the first step in developing the optimal co-authorship allocation method, this study investigated the co-authorship allocation standards of Korean Universities on journal publications. The study compared the standards of 27 Korean universities with Library and Information Science (LIS) departments, and analyzed author rankings generated by applying inflated, fractional, harmonic, and university standard method of co-authorship allocation to 189 Korean LIS faculty publications from 2001 to 2014. The university standards most similar to the standard co-authorship allocation method in bibliometrics(i.e. Vinkler) were those whose co-author credits summed up to 1. However, the university standards differed from Vinkler's in allocating author credits based on primary and secondary author classification instead of allocation based on author ranks. The statistical analysis of author rankings showed that the harmonic method was most similar to the university standards. However, the correlation between the university standards whose co-author credits summed up to greater than 1 and harmonic method was lower. The study results also suggested that middle-level authors are most sensitive to co-authorship allocation methods. However, even the most generous university standards of co-authorship allocation still penalizes collaborative research by reducing each co-authors credit below those of single authors. Follow-up studies will be needed to investigate the optimal method of co-authorship credit allocation.

  • In this paper, a new type predistorter using a low frequency intermodulation signals terms of harmonic generator is proposed. A vector modulator, in which fundamental signal is modulated with low frequency intermodulation signals derived from harmonic generator, generates predistorted third and fifth IM components. Using predistorted signals, intermodulation distortion signals of power amplifier suppressed. The suggested predistorter has been manufactured to operate in Korean PCS base-station transmitting band (1840~1870MHz). The test results show that the third IMD signal level is reduced more than 20dB and the fifth IMD signal is reduced about 10dB for CW two-tone signals. The predistorter improves the Adjacent Channel Power Ratio (ACPR) more than 10dB for CDMA (IS-95) signals.

  • In this paper we present a new method for interactive segmentation of a triangle mesh by using the concavity-sensitive harmonic field and anisotropic geodesic. The proposed method only requires a single vertex in a desired feature region, while most of existing methods need explicit information on segmentation boundary. From the user-clicked vertex, a candidate region which contains the desired feature region is defined and concavity-senstive harmonic field is constructed on the region by using appropriate boundary constraints. An initial isoline is chosen from the uniformly sampled isolines on the harmonic field and optimal points on the initial isoline are determined as interpolation points. Final segmentation boundary is then constructed by computing anisotropic geodesics passing through the interpolation points. In experimental results, we demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method by selecting several features in various 3D models.

  • This paper presents a Doherty power amplifier(DPA) operating in the 2.6 GHz band for long term evolution(LTE) systems. In order to achieve high efficiency, second and third harmonic impedances are controlled using a compact output matching network. The DPA was implemented using a gallium nitride high electron mobility transistor(GaN-HEMT) that has many advantages, such as high power density and high efficiency. The implemented DPA was measured using an LTE downlink signal with a 10 MHz bandwidth and 6.5 dB PAPR. The implemented DPA exhibited a gain of 13.1 dB, a power-added efficiency(PAE) of 57.6 %, and an ACLR of -25.7 dBc at an average output power of 33.4 dBm.

  • In this paper, we have proposed a high conversion and isolation characteristic V-band quadruple sub-harmonic mixer monolithic circuit which is designed and fabricated for the millimeter wave down converter applications. While most of the sub-harmonic mixers use a half of fundamental frequency, we adopt a quarter of the fundamental frequency. The proposed circuit is based on a sub-harmonic mixer with APDP(anti-parallel diode pair) and the 0.1 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ PHEMT's (pseudomorphic high electron mobility transistors). Lumped elements at IF port provide better selectivity of IF frequency and increase isolation. Maximum conversion gain of 0.8 ㏈ at a LO frequency of 14.5㎓ and at a RF frequency of 60.4 ㎓ is measured. Both LO-to-RF and LO-to-IF isolations are higher than 50 ㏈. The conversion gain and isolation characteristic are the best performances among the reported quadruple sub-harmonic mixer operating in the V-band millimeter wave frequency thus far.
