  • Investigation for the preparation of high strength hardened cement paste using ordinary portland cement, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) with admixtures was carried out. For molding of the specimen, the paste was mixed with 0.1 of water cement ratio by twin roll mill. The maximum flexural strength of dried hardened cement paste was about 600∼700kg/㎠. When the SiC was added to the paste, the dry flexural strength was about 920kg/㎠ and the young's modulus was 5.2×105kg/㎠. When the admixtures were added to the specimens, wet strength of the harened cement paste immersed in water was showed around 50∼100kg/㎠ higher than that of plain specimen. Consequently it is recognized the water stability of hardened cement paste was remarkably improved by adequate admixture.

  • Induction surface hardening is widely used to enhance local strength and hardness. However, most research is only to have a focus on fatigue life and fatigue behavior is not so much studied. So, in this study, Cr-Mo steel alloy(SCM440) was used to show the effect of residual stress and micro hole on the fatigue strength for base metal and induction surface hardened specimen. In addition, the fatigue characteristic between surface hardened and fully hardened steel is somewhat different. It is caused by hardness distribution, residual stress and inclusions etc.. Crack origins are generally micro inclusions for the high strength steel. So, the distribution of inclusions is analyzed statistically.

  • Sulfamethoxazole particles were microencapsulated using the gelatin-acacia complex coacervation method. Micromeritic properties and dissolution characteristics of the microcapsules were studied. The particle size distribution followed log-normal form. As the hardening time increased, the particle size and wall thickness increased ($45.3-52.0\;{\mu}m$, $2.02-5.12\;{\mu}m$, respectively). This is considered to be due to the cross-linked wall structure of formalized microcapsules which prevents shrinking of gelatin during the dehydration and drying processes. An increase of hardening time clearly delayed the release rate. The in vitro 50% dissolution time $(t_{50})$ for unencapsulated sulfamethoxazole powder was less than 3 min.; for microcapsules hardened for 30 min, the $t_{50}$ was 20.1 min.; for those hardened for 60 min. the $t_{50}$ was 25.0 min.; for those hardened for 120 min., the $t_{50}$ was 35.8 min. The surface of the unhardened microcapsules was smooth and had no cracking or pore penetration. However, the surface of the hardened microcapsules was folded and invaginated.

  • The high hardened materials that are remarkable in aspects of durability have been used for die and mold industry. As the high hardened materials are hard to machine, the high-speed machining is essential to manufacture these materials. Currently, in the general turning and milling, experiments to the tool wear monitoring have studied, but those have not applied in high-speed machining. In this study, the cutting mechanism was analysed by the cutting force according to cutting conditions, and the parameters to monitor the tool wear were selected from the tendency of the cutting force and acceleration according to cutting length in the high-speed machining of the high hardened materials(STD11).

  • In order to improve the density and the mechanical strength without change in chemical composition the hardened pastes of hydroxyapatite cement were reinforced with powders and/or whiskers of hydroxyapatite. The powders behaved as a seed of hydroxyapatite formation rather than a filler while the whiskers were mrerly dispersed in matrix and capillary pores of the hardened bodies leading to increase in mechanical strength. But the increase in strength But the increase in strength was nnt enough owing to the lack of homogeneous dispersion of the fibers. The highest diametral tensile strength of 18.5 MPa was measured at the hardened hydroxyapatite body in which well-dispersed whisker phase formed uniformly during hydro-thermal curing of power-added and dry-formed hydroxyapatite cement.

  • PCBN tools are used worldwide for machining of hardened steel parts in automotive industries. But in heavy interrupted cutting of hardened steel, the tool life is not so stable by sudden breakage of the cutting edge, and total cost of cutting by PCBN is not so economical compared to the grinding. To solve this problem, new PCBN has been developed. New PCBN has very fine and homogeneous microstructure to increase the toughness of sintered body that it provides a reliable tool life for heavy interrupted cutting.

  • The purpose of this investigation is experimentally to clarify the machinability and optimum tool geometry on milling of hardened STD11 steel. In the finish process office milling of high hardened STD11 steel by CBN tool, the optimum tool shape is suggested, which can minimize the tool fracture and chipping by impact. It is measured that cutting farce, tool wear and surface roughness generated during single-insert face milling using various geometric CBN tools. It has been found that the optimal chamfer angle of CBN tool is about -$25^{\circ}C$ and the suitable chandler width is 0.2mm. The nose radius of tool is the most excellent at 1.2mm in the viewpoint of tool wear and surface roughness.

  • Air void systems in hardened concrete has an important influence on concrete durability such as freeze-thaw resistance, water permeability, surface scaling resistance. Linear traverse method and point count method described at ASTM is the routine analysis of the air void system that have been widely used to estimate the spacing factor in hardened concrete. Recently, many concretes often have a spacing factor higher than the generally accepted $200-250{\mu}m$ limit for the usual range of air contents. This study is proposed to estimate the matrix spacing factor by calculation of simplicity. The matrix spacing factor needs two parameters that are air content and numbers of air voids in the hardened concrete. Those are obtained from the standard air-void system analysis of the ASTM C 457. The equation is valid for all values of paste-to-air ratio because the estimation of paste content is unnecessary at the using ASTM C 457. The matrix spacing factor yields a similar estimate of the standard spacing factor.

  • Partial-hardened hot stamping has been well known to be very effective to absorb more energy in automotive lateral crash. Hardness distribution and dimensional change after partial-hardened hot stamping have been studied to find out effect of thermal deformation of the heated hot stamping die on dimensional accuracy of automotive center pillar. Soft zone of commercial center pillar showed 275~345 in Vickers hardness, indicating bigger non-uniformity which resulted from thermal deformation of heated die. Dimensional changes in soft zone of the commercial center pillar measured by three dimensional scanner were much bigger than that in hard zone. It has been found that hot stamping die compensation considering thermal deformation in soft zone causes a significant decrease in hardness deviation in the soft zone, corresponding to 20 percent of commercial center pillar and subsequently leads to much higher dimensional accuracy.

  • This study aimed to evaluate of the hardened properties (mortar consistency, setting time, absorption properties, drying shrinkage, and bond strength) of the basalt powder sludge mortar recycling a basalt powder sludge occurred during the manufacture process of basalt stone as a replacing material for the sea-sand used to cement filling compound for surface preparation. The hardened mortar made of the basalt powder sludge showed an enhanced performance or similar with the properties of normal mortar used to cement filling compound for surface preparation. But, the drying shrinkage was increased more than a normal cement mortar in the hardened mortar made of the basalt powder sludge since curing 8 - 9days. And the bond strength is low in the hardened mortar used the basalt powder sludge. On the whole, properties of the hardened mortar used the basalt powder sludge correspond to the required minimum quality criterion in the KS F 4716 'cement filling compound for surface preparation'.
