High power pulse generating technology is to accumulate the energy for relatively long and then to create a strong force by emitting the energy very fast. High power pulse generating technology has recently been using in various fields like environments, industry, research, military and so on. Numerous studies about high power pulse generators have already been performed and commercialized in various conditions. However, in aspect of their size and weight, it is hard to carry the generators which currently have been developed. For these reasons, din nations like America or Russia, the researches have been performed for Ferroelectric Generators(FEG), which have relatively simple structure and are economical. To realize the ferroelectric generator, in this study, we selected the PZTs which have different physical properties respectively, and then shocked them using explosives. The PZT samples with volumes of $0.31{\sim}0.94cm^3$ were depolarized by shocked and produced the waveform that have peak voltages of 4.28 ~ 15kV. The lowest relative permittivity sample generated much higher peak voltage. And sudden voltage drops which seem to be caused by dielectric breakdown were observed in some experiments using low young's modulus samples. Also, increase in thickness led to increase in peak voltage, but the ratio of the voltage rise did not reach the ration of the thickness increase.
$Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3$ (PZT) is used for the various piezoelectric devices owing to its high piezoelectric properties. However, lead (Pb), which is contained in PZT, causes various environment contaminations. $(K,Na)NbO_3$ (NKN) is the most well-known candidate for a lead-free composition to replace PZT. A single crystal has excellent piezoelectric-properties and its properties can be changed by changing the orientation direction. It is hard to fabricate a NKN single crystal due to the sodium and potassium. Thus, $(Na,K)NbO_3-Ba(Cu,Nb)O_3$ (NKN-BCuN) is chosen to fabricate the single crystal with relative ease. NKN-BCuN pellets consist of two parts, yellow single crystals and gray poly-crystals that contain copper. The area that has a large amount of copper particles may melt at low temperature but not the other areas. The liquid phase may be responsible for the abnormal grain growth in NKN-BCuN ceramics. The dielectric constant and tan ${\delta}$ are measured to be 684 and 0.036 at 1 kHz in NKN-BCuN, respectively. The coercive field and remnant polarization are 14 kV/cm and $20{\mu}C/cm^2$.
Piezoelectric ceramics of PZT have been developed to apply for transformers in notebook. Use of piezoelectric ceramics in applications like piezoelectric transformers was made possible by the development of new materials with high electromechanical coupling coefficients and high mechanical quality factor. "Hard" ferroelectiric ceramics of complex composition based on lead zirconate titanate with Mn additive have been prepared. The perovskitic phase reaction of the oxides. The crucial role played by the intermediate mixing and grinding procedures in the assessment of the final properties of the material was investigated. Densification up to approximately the theoretical density value was achieved. The polarization was obtained by subjecting the samples at $30kVcm^{-1}$ poling electric field, in a silicon oil bath heated at $110^{\circ}C$. Their microstructural and morphological properties were checked by X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy. The optimized samples presented very high qualify and electromechanical coupling factors, together with small dielectric loss.
This paper reports an experimental investigation to design a tree-shaped wind power system using piezo-electric materials. The proposed system is to produce power if wind is strong enough to produce any bending motions in the energy converting elements, i.e., piezo-electric materials. Two different kinds of piezoelectric materials are used in the present study to produce power by scavenging energy from the wind. The soft flexible one made the leaf element while the hard one was applied to the trunk portion of the tree requiring rather strong winds to generate any power. Although small, each leaf deems to play the role of a power producer and currents are continuously trickling down to the storage battery installed at the bottom of the system.

Large concrete structures are prone to cracks and damages over time from human usage, weathers, and other environmental attacks such as flood, earthquakes, and hurricanes. The health of the concrete structures should be monitored regularly to ensure safety. A reliable method of real time communications can facilitate more frequent structural health monitoring (SHM) updates from hard to reach positions, enabling crack detections of embedded concrete structures as they occur to avoid catastrophic failures. By implementing an unconventional mode of communication that utilizes guided stress waves traveling along the concrete structure itself, we may be able to free structural health monitoring from costly (re-)installation of communication wires. In stress-wave communications, piezoelectric transducers can act as actuators and sensors to send and receive modulated signals carrying concrete status information. The new generation of lead zirconate titanate (PZT) based smart aggregates cause multipath propagation in the homogeneous concrete channel, which presents both an opportunity and a challenge for multiple sensors communication. We propose a time reversal based pulse position modulation (TR-PPM) communication for stress wave communication within the concrete structure to combat multipath channel dispersion. Experimental results demonstrate successful transmission and recovery of TR-PPM using stress waves. Compared with PPM, we can achieve higher data rate and longer link distance via TR-PPM. Furthermore, TR-PPM remains effective under low signal-to-noise (SNR) ratio. This work also lays the foundation for implementing multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) stress wave communication networks in concrete channels.
NKN [(Na,K)NbO3] is a candidate lead-free piezoelectric material to replace PZT [Pb(Zr,Ti)O3]. A single crystal has excellent piezoelectric-properties and its properties are dependent of the crystal orientation direction. However, it is hard to fabricate a single crystal with stoichiometrically stable composition due to volatilization of sodium during the growth process. To solve this problem, a solid solution composition is designed (Na,K)NbO3-Ba(Cu,Nb)O3 and solid state grain growth is studied for a sizable single crystal. Ceramic powders of (Na,K)NbO3-M(Cu,Nb)O3 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) are synthesized and grain growth behavior is investigated for different temperatures and times. Average normal grain sizes of individual specimens, which are heat-treated at 1,125 ℃ for 10 h, are 6.9, 2.8, and 1.6 ㎛ for M = Ca, Sr, and Ba, respectively. Depending on M, the distortion of NKN structure can be altered. XRD results show that (NKN-CaCuN: shrunken orthorhombic; NKN-SrCuN: orthorhombic; NKN-BaCuN: cubic). For the sample heat-treated at 1,125 ℃ for 10 h, the maximum grain sizes of individual specimens are measured as 40, 5, and 4,000 ㎛ for M = Ca, Sr, and Ba, respectively. This abnormal grain size is related to the partial melting temperature (NKN-CaCuN: 960 ℃; NKN-SrCuN: 971 ℃; NKN-BaCuN: 945 ℃).
