하계 항만열환경정보 제공을 위한 열환경 평가 및 예보시스템 구축 (Heat Stress Assessment and the Establishment of a Forecast System to Provide Thermophysiological Indices for Harbor Workers in Summer)

  • Objectives: Outdoor workers are exposed to thermally stressful work environments. In this study, heat stress indices for harbor workers in summer were calculated to evaluate thermal comfort based on a human heat balance model. These indices are Physiological Subjective Temperature (PST), Dehydration Risk (DhR), and Overheating Risk (OhR) according to respective stage of cargo work in a harbor. In addition, we constructed a forecast system to provide heat stress information. Methods: Thermophysiological indices in this study were calculated using the MENEX model (i.e. the human heat balance model), which used as inputs the meteorological parameters, clothing insulation, and metabolic rate for each stage of cargo work in the harbor of Masan over the course of seven days, including a four-day heat wave. The forecast heat stress information constructed for Masan harbor was based on meteorological data supported by the Dong-Nae Forecast from the KMA (Korea Metrological Administration) and other input parameters. Results: According to higher metabolic rate, thermophysiological indices showed a critical level. In particular, PST was evaluated as reaching the 'Very hot' or 'Hot' level during all seven days, despite the heat occurring over only four. It is important in a regard to consider the work environment conditions (i.e. labor intensity and clothing in harbor). On a webpage, the forecast thermophysiological indices show as infographics to be easily understand. This webpage is comprised of indices for both current conditions and the forecast, with brief guidance. Conclusion: Thermophysiological indices show the risk level to health during a heat wave period. Heat stress information could help to protect the health of harbor workers. Further, this study could extend the applicability of these indices to a variety of outdoor workers in consideration of work environments.

  • To prevent increasing instances of heat-related illnesses due to heat waves generated by climate change, a customized thermal environment index should be developed for outdoor workers. In this study, we conducted sensitivity analysis of the Masan harbor during a heat wave period (August 9th to 15th, 2013) using the MENEX model with metabolic rate and clothing-insulation data, in order to obtain realistic information about the thermal environment. This study shows that accurate input data are essential to gather information for thermophysiological indices (PST, DhR, and OhR). PST is sensitive to clothing insulation as a function of clothing. OhR is more sensitive to clothing insulation during the day and to the metabolic rate at night. From these results, it appears that when exposed to high-temperature thermal environments in summer, wearing highly insulated clothing and getting enough rest (to lower the metabolic rate) can aid in preventing heat-related illnesses. Moreover, in the case of high-intensity harbor work, quantification of allowed working time (OhR) during heat waves is significant for human health sciences.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the impacts of job stress and job embeddedness on presenteeism among container terminal workers. Methods: The participants were 299 workers at the S Harbor in P City. Data were collected from April 22 to June 5, 2015. The data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, $Scheff{\acute{e}}^{\prime}s$ test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and logistic regression. Results: These workers on presenteeism were affected by the department of work, annual pay, and exercise of more than 30 minutes per day, revealing a statistically significant difference according to these variables. In other words, when job stress was high, job embeddedness was less, the extent of work impairment was higher, and in turn perceived productivity was lower. Work impairment was 3.11 times higher in workers with above-average job stress than those with lower job stress. Perceived productivity was 2.31 times higher in workers with above-average job embeddedness than those with lower job embeddedness. Conclusion: To reduce work impairment and increase productivity among container terminal workers, it is necessary to decrease their job stress, to increase their job embeddedness, and especially to do exercise for more than 30 minutes a day.

Redescription of Chironomus salinarius (Diptera: Chironomidae), nuisance midges that emerged in brackish water of Jinhae-man (Bay), Kyongsangnam-do, Korea

  • Huge numbers of non-biting midges emerged from brackish water which were made at the harbor construction field in Jinhae City, Kyongsangnam-do, Korea in late summer in 2005, and caused a serious nuisance to villagers. The midges were collected and identified as Chironomus salinarius (Kieffer, 1921). Although this species was recorded in Korea for the first time in 1998, the morphological descriptions were so brief and simple. A full redescription is made with detailed illustrations for ecological and control workers of this nuisance midge.

컨테이너터미널에서 안전교육이 사고에 미치는 영향 분석 (The Accidents Analysis for Safety Training in The Container Terminal)

  • 우리나라는 수출 입 물동량의 대부분을 해상수송에 의존하고 있는 입장에서 예기치 못한 안전사고 등으로 컨테이너터미널의 정상적인 기능을 수행하기 어렵고 신뢰성에 문제가 되어 신규 물량 유치 및 기존 물량 유지에 타격을 받게 될 가능성도 제기 된다. 이에 컨테이너터미널에서는 365일 고객에게 최상의 서비스 질을 제공하기 위해서 항만근로자의 적극적인 업무 대처와 역할을 강조하고 있는 실정이다. 이러한 결과 항만근로자들에게 과중한 업무의 부담이 전가되어 안전사고가 매년 발생하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 실제 광양항 A 컨테이너터미널의 2012년부터 2015년 재해현황을 분석하고, 안전사고 교육 미비 상태와 안전사고 교육을 꾸준히 실행 했을 때 컨테이너터미널의 안전사고 현황을 분석하였다. 장비별 안전사고 분석결과 GC 경우 교육 전 2012년 45건, 2013년 31건이 발생했으며, 교육준비 과정 2014년 23건, 집중 교육 기간 2015년에는 8건이 발생하였다. TC 경우 교육 전 2012년 13건, 2013년 19건이 발생했으며, 교육준비 과정 2014년 12건, 집중 교육 기간 2015년에는 8건이 발생하였다. YT 경우 교육 전 2012년 9건, 2013년 9건이 발생했으며, 교육준비 과정 2014년 9건, 집중 교육 기간 2015년에는 4건이 발생하였다. 컨테이너터미널의 안전교육은 법정 교육, 자체 교육과 장비별 안전 수칙 교육이 컨테이너터미널에서 안전사고에 미치는 영향이 크게 나타남에 따라 안전사고를 미연에 예방하기 위해서 안전교육을 강화하고 있다.

힘판을 이용한 들기 작업시의 경사면 분석 (Analysis of Sloping Ground When Lifting with Force Platform)

  • 최근 들어 산업현장에서는 생산성의 향상, 노무비의 증가 및 노동력의 부족, 안전성 등을 이유로 자동생산시스템과 운반용 동력기계와 같은 기구를 도입하여 작업자 스스로가 자신의 근력을 이용한 인력운반(Manual Materials Handling : MMH) 작업이 줄어들고 있는 추세라고 하지만, 실제로 비탈진 경사면에 위치한 농장이나 과수원, 항만부두의 하역작업, 경사진 벌목장 작업, 광산의 막장에서의 작업등과 같이 주변환경이 복잡한 현장에서의 작업은 기계로 완전히 대체하기가 어려운 실정이다. 그러므로, 이러한 작업현장에서는 인간이 직접 손 운반작업(들기 작업)을 할 수밖에 없으며, 이와 같은 경사면에서의 손 운반작업(들기 작업)은 작업자에게 많은 재해의 위험성을 만들어 주며, 추락으로 인한 산업재해는 물론이고 미끄러짐 방지 같은 신체균형잡기 노력은 근골격 계통에 과도한 무리를 주게 되어 LBP의 원인이 되기도 한다. 하지만, 이러한 경사면에서의 손 운반작업(들기 작업)에 대한 연구에 대해서는 거의 없는 실정이다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 force platform을 이용하여 경사면에서의 손 운반작업(들기 작업)을 통한 COP변화를 측정 ·분석하여 작업자들의 산업재해를 예방하고자 하며, 향후 이러한 기초 자료를 통하여 손 운반작업(들기 작업)뿐만 아니라 그 밖의 응용분야에 기여하고자 한다.

A comparative study of the prevalence of Helicobacter pylori in the oral biofilms of a group of dental and non-dental undergraduates from Sri Lanka

  • Dental health care workers (DHCW) are at a risk of occupational exposure to Helicobacter pylori from the aerosolized oral biofilms and saliva of patients. We designed this study to investigate the prevalence of H. pylori in the oral biofilms of a group of dental and non-dental undergraduates from Sri Lanka. After obtaining informed consent, oral biofilms were collected from 38 dental undergraduates (19 males and 19 females) undergoing clinical training and 33 non-dental undergraduates (14 males and 19 females). The participants were in the age range of 22-27 years and had healthy periodontium. Total DNA from the oral biofilms were extracted, and H. pylori DNA was detected using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification of 16S rRNA gene of H. pylori using JW22-JW23 primers, and the results were confirmed using PCR amplification of H. pylori-urease specific HPU1-HPU2 primers. Out of 71 participants, 11 (28.95%) dental and 3 (9.09%) non-dental undergraduates had H. pylori in their oral biofilms indicating an overall prevalence rate of 19.72% (14/71). Thus, the prevalence of H. pylori in oral biofilms was significantly higher in dental undergraduates than in non-dental undergraduates (p < 0.05). An odds ratio of 4.07 indicated that dental undergraduates were four times more likely to harbor H. pylori in their oral biofilms than non-dental undergraduates. Foregoing data support the fact that there may be greater occupational risk of exposure to H. pylori for dental undergraduates during clinical training than that for non-dental undergraduates, warranting meticulous infection control practices during clinical dentistry.

항만 하역 노동력의 최적 규모 결정에 관하여 (A Study on Determining the Optimal Amount of Labor Force for Cargo Handling in the Harbor)

  • Today, about 99% of total import and export cargo in Korea is being transported through the port. The general trends of cargo handling show increases in capacity and speed, In order to cope with these trends, it is not only required to raise the efficiencies of port operation and function but also necessary to decide the optimal amount of the skilled labor force for cargo handling in the port. Cargo handling in the port is basically relied on the cargo handling facilities. Therefore, it is very important to reserve the amount of labor force for cargo handling system has been developed up to a certain level but the personnel management system which is the superior structure has not been followed well. In this study, therefore, we show a method to determine the required amount of labor force for cargo handling considering the amount of cargo and type of cargo handling work per each cargo, and the optimal amount labor force in cope with the fluctuation of the basic cargo handling labor force with respect to the time of in and out cargo flow in the viewpoint of minimizing the expences due to reservation of extra labor force than needed and firing employment of labor force using the Dynamic Programming. The derived algorithm is introduced into the computer simulation for Pusan port with the analyzed real data such as amount of cargo handling in the port with respect to working hour, cargo capacity, working step, the ratio of cargo handling facility and actual number of workers and we estimated the required labor force. As a result of analysis the labor force of Pusan port showed the over-employment such as maximum 21.4%, minimum 8.2% when we assumed that the averages of actual working hours and days were 8 hours in a day and 20 day in a month.

생성형 인공지능 초기 단계의 사용자경험(UX): Q-방법론을 통해 살펴본 30-40대 직장인의 편의와 우려 (User Experience (UX) in the Early Days of Generative AI : The benefits and concerns of employees in their 30s and 40s through the Q-methodology)

  • Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the customer experience of generative AI among office workers aged 30 to 40, investigating usability, usefulness, and affect, and understanding concerns and expectations. Design/Methodology/Approach This research used Q methodology to assess the customer experience of generative AI. Users are engaged in a problem-solving journey, and data is collected by having participants rank 36 statements based on usability, usefulness, and affect, referred to as the three goals of User Experience. Participants use a forced distribution table with a scale from -5 to +5 to indicate the subjective importance of each statement. The results identified four groups, reflecting different perspectives and attitudes toward generative AI. Findings Participants express overall comfort with generative AI, perceive AI as more knowledgeable in unfamiliar domains, but harbor doubts about AI's understanding. Disagreements emerge on AI replacing humans, the value of unique human roles, data confidentiality, fears of AI advancement, and emotional impacts. Identified four groups: Users who treat AI as a soulless assistant and are active in business use, Uncle users who want to use new technologies properly and are not afraid of technology, users who recognize the limits of AI despite its efficiency, and users who require strong verification in the future. It has the potential to guide future guidelines, ethical codes, and regulations for the appropriate use of AI. In addition, this approach lays the groundwork for future empirical analyses of generative AI.
