In this study, endophytic fungi were isolated from the leaves of evergreen woody plants in Hansando Island in South Korea. The fungal isolates were identified based on morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis of the DNA sequences of the internal transcribed spacer and the large subunit regions of rDNA. It was confirmed that two endophytic fungal species, Muyocopron lithocarpi and Didymocyrtis cladoniicola, isolated in this study have not previously been reported in South Korea.
A survey on images and consumption for Instant food for 450 homemakers in Ullungdo, Hansando and Daegu area were summarized as follows. 1) The tought of Homemakers food took 'easy to cook' and 'save time' as the best advantage in the image on instant food, while 'tasty' as the lowest one. It appeared that characteristic variables as household income, homemaker's education, homemaker's age, and area had influence on the image about instant food. 2) Processed food(ham, sausage)was purchased the most, while fermented food(kimchi, gochuchang) was purchased the least. It appeared that characteristics variables as household income, homemaker's education and homemaker's age had influence on the purchasing degree of instant food. 3) There were positive correlation coefficient between homemaker's image on instant food and household income(0.247) and area(0.211). There were negative correlation coefficient between homemaker's image on instant food and homemaker's age(-0.171). 4) Homemaker's purchasing degree about instant food had positive correlation coefficient with homemaker's image on instant food(0.389), household income(0.247) and area(0.211)and had negative correlation coefficient with homemaker's age(-0.190). 5) Fat intake had positive correlation coefficient with homemaker's purchasing degree(0.281) and homemaker's image(0.144) on instant food. Energy intake had positive correlation coefficient with homemaker's purchasing degree(0.206) and homemaker's image(0.138) on instant food.
Endophytic fungi were isolated from the leaves of plants inhabiting the Hansando Island in Korea. We identified the fungal strains based on their morphological characteristics and on the phylogenetic analysis using DNA sequences of the internal transcribed spacer, small subunit rDNA, large subunit rDNA, and translation elongation factor 1- α regions. In this study, we isolated five endophytic fungi that have not been recorded in Korea, Arthrinium camelliaesinensis, Beltraniella humicola, B. portoricensis, Microxiphium theae, and Piceomphale pinicola. Their morphological characteristics as well as the results of molecular phylogenetic analysis are reported here.
Fish species composition in eelgrass bed of Bongam on Hansando island, Korea was determined using monthly samples collected by a surf net from August 2009 to July 2010. A total of 30 species, 3,237 individuals and 6,850.1g of fish were collected. The dominant species were Gymnogobius heptacanthus, Rudarius ercodes, Takifugu niphobles, Chaenogobius annularis, Pterogobius elapoides and Syngnathus schlegeli which accounted for 86.7% of total number of individuals of fish collected. Eelgrass started growing from May ($DW61.9g/m^2$) showing a peak biomass in August ($DW81.6g/m^2$), and low values in November ($DW57.23g/m^2$) to February ($DW15.41g/m^2$). The fish assemblages in the eelgrass beds showed clear seasonal changes; the number of fish species and individuals were low from September to December 2009, and high from December 2009 to July 2010. Seasonal variation in species composition and abundance was related to the water temperature and standing crops of eelgrass.
The genus Eurycletodes Sars, 1909 is reported for the first time in Korea. A new species of the genus Eurycletodes was collected from Hansando Island, South Sea of Korea. So far, Eurycletodes comprises 27 species, with no previously recorded species reported in East Asia, including Korea. Eurycletodes (Oligocletodes) vadumus sp. nov. is morphologically most closely related to E. (O.) denticulatus Por, 1967, E. (O.) aculeatus Sars, 1920, and E. (O.) diva Menzel, 2011, but clearly distinguishable from the others based on the following morphological characteristics: absence of A2 exopodal seta, A1 last segment with two inner setae, P4 exp-3 proximal inner seta modified, the ratio of length and of caudal rami (1.6 times), and mandibular palp with three setae. Together with the new species, the number of valid species in this genus has risen to 28. A key to species of the genus Eurycletodes is provided.

This study aimed to determine the monthly fish species composition in the eelgrass bed of Yeocha on Hansando Island, Korea, and to obtain fish species data by comparison with the nearby Bongam. The species composition was determined from monthly samples collected by a surf net from August 2009 to July 2010. During the survey, total 2,394 individuals of 29 species and 10,378 g of fish were collected. The dominant species were Gymnogobius heptacanthus, followed by Takifugu niphobles, Rudarius ercodes, Chaenogobius annularis, and Ditrema temminckii, accounting for 89% of the total individuals sampled and 83% of the fish biomass collected. The fish assemblages in the eelgrass bed varied seasonally; the number of individual fishes increased in May and was highest in July, whereas the biomass attained its highest level in April and subsequently decreased. This study confirms that the seagrass bed plays an important role as a fish nursery ground, and it is necessary to investigate changes in the coastal fishes of the southern coast via periodic surveys.
For studying growth of sea squirt, Halocynthia roretzi, from laboratoy grown seeds, in situ culture experiment was carried out off Hansando located in the southern part of Korea from February 1984 to July 1986. In the growth of the mean body height, sea squirt grew up to 9.15 cm during the above period after they were seeded at about 0.05 cm. The meat weight of 1.27 g at the beginning increased to 41.69 g from February 1985 to March 1986. The decreasing tendency in body height, body breadth, total weight and meat weight of sea squirt was observed during the summer season in 1985 when the water temperature reached $23.53^{\circ}C$ the maximum value in monthly mean, and the specific gravity of sea water remained at the lowest level of 1.0233 in monthly mean. Sea squirt became gradually elongated with the decreasing tendency in the relative growth ratio of body breadth to body height with aging. The monthly mortality of sea squirt was especially higher in June and July than in the other months, and the average monthly mortality was $10.83\%$.
1. Physicochemical properties of sea water and soil of Korean tidal flats densely populated with species of Mactra veneriformis, Cyclina sinensis, Meretrix lusoria, and Tapes philippinarum, were investigated in order to find out the index of environmental factors in marine bivalve culture. 2. The turbidity varied with the change in concentrations of organic matter, silicate, and the exchangeable copper in sea water. All of these concentrations in Inchon, Kunsan, and Hansando were higher than those in Yusoo. In the 5 areas investigated the lowest were ditected at Kangnung. 3. The minerals and organic matter content in sea water dia not vary significantly among the different bivalve beds. And it was presumed that the soil texture was one of the most important environmental factors for the density of the bivalves in tidelands. 4. The soil texture index of the different bivalve beds was obtained as follow: 5. There were no significant differences of pH, the exchangeable calcium, and the exchangeable copper contents of bottom soils in the 4 different bivalve beds. As important factors in these areas, it seems that the amount of chemical properties might not affect the distribution of bivalve species. 6. Among the 4 beds the soil organic matter content was highest at the T. philippinarum bed and varied with the total nitrogen content. 7. Among the different bivalve beds, it was significant that the water holding capacity and available phosphorus content were highest at the M. veneriformis bed.
A population ecological study was carried out to estimate survival and growth rates, biomass, biological production and turnover ratio of cultured sea squirt, Halocynthia roretzi, by growth stages, using data from in situ culture experiment off Hansando in the southern part of Korea from February 1985 to July 1986. The squirt population followed an exponential decay function and the instantaneous coefficient of total mortality (Z) was estimated to be 0.0614 $month^{-1}$(Var (Z) = 0.000126). Growths in total weight and meat weight of squirts were expressed as linear functions during the period of culture experiment. The growth of squirts showed a negative correlation with the water temperature. The mean biomass per string ranged from 2.14 kg for March of the first year to 16.26 kg for March of the next year. The biological production per string was estimated to range from 3.28 kg for the first summer (June - July) to 6.46kg for the first late winter (February-March). The peak of turnover ratio occurred in the late winter (February-March) as 3.013 and the ratios sharply declined thereafter. Based on the results of this study, management implications for culturing sea squirts were also suggested. The optimum harvest time ($t_{mb}$) when the peak biomass in terms of total weight occurred was estimated to be late June of the second year, which corresponded to 16.7 months after the main hanging. However, the time when the peak biomass in terms of meat weight was occurred was early July of the second year. The maximum harvest biomass was 17.4 kg per string in terms of total weight and 6.3 kg per string in terms of meat weight. In conclusion, the process of culture should be conducted on the basis of the knowledge of population ecological theories as shown in this study.
