3자간게임모형에 의한 3G 이동통신단말기의 치적유통전략 (An Optimal Strategy of 3G Mobile Handset Distribution by 3-Person Game)

  • The USIM(universal subscriber identity module)-unlock introducing in July 1, 2008 might be led to a significant change that mobile service provider's dominance is considerably dispersed to the handset manufacturer and distributor. Under USIM-unlock environment, mobile service provider, handset manufacturer, and distributor have to make their decisions on their handset distribution channel strategies: the closed distribution channel strategy or the open distribution channel strategy. The change of distribution channel strategy between members in distribution channel can be understood as a matter of strategy choice, and we have developed a theoretical model and analyzed how to make a decision for the member's optimal distribution strategy based on 3-person game model between members of mobile phone distribution channel, under both of '1 subscriber-1 handset' and '1 subscriber-multiple handset' assumptions. Under '1 subscriber-1 handset' assumption, the closed strategy controlled by mobile service provider is all players' optimal solution because the maximum size of the mobile phone market is limited by subscribers. But, as total expected profit by the handset and distribution subsides is a deficit, mobile service provider have to choose the open strategy and consider the conversion to MNO(mobile network operator). Under '1 subscriber-multiple handset' assumption, mobile service provider is trying to find the way how to lock-in its service and mobile phone and how to maximize ARPU(average revenue per unit), while handset manufacturer and distributor have to look for the way how to maximize the mobile phone market using their own marketing efforts, because it is expected that total mobile handset demand for the open market is bigger than demand for the closed market under '1 subscriber-multiple handset' assumption.

  • Observation of the effects of a handset subsidy on the mobile telecommunication industry has revealed two different aspects. The activation of various mobile services and the handset market, has led to the rapid acceleration of the related technological development, which is a desirable result, while rising prices and the overspending of related resources are undesirable. A great deal of research has been conducted to assess both desirable and undesirable factors using qualitative methods. However, quantitative studies into the effects of a handset subsidy are rare. In this study, we consider the positive and negative effects on consumer welfare of a change in demand and prices brought about by a handset subsidy. Then, we quantitatively compare the positive and negative effects and analyze their direct effects on consumer welfare.

A Fast Implementation of JPEG and Its Application to Multimedia Service in Mobile Handset

  • In this paper, a fast implementation of JPEG is discussed and its application to multimedia service is presented for mobile wireless internet. A fast JPEG player is developed based on several fast algorithms for mobile handset. In the color transformation, RCT is adopted instead of ICT for JPEG source. For the most time-consuming DCT part, the binDCT can reduce the decoding time. In upsampling and RGB conversion, the transformation from YCbCr to RGB 16 bit is made at one time. In some parts, assembly language is applied for high-speed. Also, an implementation of multimedia in mobile handset is described using MJPEG (Motion JPEG) and QCELP(Qualcomm Code Excited Linear Prediction Coding). MJPEG and QCELP are used for video and sound, which are synchronized in handset. For the play of MJPEG, the decoder is implemented as a S/W upon the MSM 5500 baseband chip using the fast JPEG decoder. For the play of QCELP, the embedded QCELP player in handset is used. The implemented multimedia player has a fast speed preserving the image quality.

  • 본 논문에서는 W-CDMA 단말기 표준안에서 요구하는 최소 성능을 분석하고 현재 상용화되어 있는 부품들을 사용하여 W-CDMA 단말기 수신부를 설계 및 제작하였다 표준안의 테스트 조건들로부터 수신 시스템의 최대 잡음지수와 IIP3 을 도출하였으며, 인접채널에 대한 선택도 및 프콘트 -엔드 단의 최소 성능을 경쟁하였다 제작에 앞 서 ADS 를 이용하여 성능검증을 하였으며 , 모두 분석된 최소성능을 만족하였다. 끝으로 W-CDMA 단말기 수신부 를 헤테로다인 구조로 R 단에서 IF 단까지 제작하였으며, 측정을 하였다 따라서 본 논문이 W-CDMA 단말기를 제작함에 있어 이론적인 설계 기준이 될 것으로 여겨진다.

단말기 번들링이 경쟁과 소비자후생에 미치는 효과 연구 (A Study on the Effects of Handset Bundling on Competition and Consumer Welfare)

  • 단말기와 서비스의 번들링(bundling)이 단말기보조금의 홍역과 자원낭비 및 고가(高價)단말기-고(高)통신요금 구조의 악순환 등 국내 이동통신산업이 안고 있는 많은 문제점의 근본적인 원인임을 분석한다. 번들링은 시장의 투명성을 약화시켜 소비자가 가격혼동을 겪게 하고 단말기시장과 서비스시장의 독과점화를 심화시키며 서비스품질과 통신요금인하경쟁 대신 단말기보조금 지급 위주의 경쟁패턴을 초래한다. 이는 이동통신요금의 상승요인으로 작용하여 소비자후생을 저하시키고 가격차별로 인해 소비자간 형평성 문제를 야기한다. 이러한 문제의 근본적인 해결을 위해서는 단말기와 서비스의 번들링 해체가 필요함을 제기한다. 기존의 번들링을 허용하면서 단말기의 개별 판매를 추진하는 혼합번들링(mixed bundling)은 번들링이 우월적 전략(dominant strategy)이 되기 때문에 그 효과에 한계가 있음을 지적하고, 규제정책의 시사점으로 단말기와 서비스의 완전 분리가 필요함을 제시한다.

GPS/PCS 단말기용 듀얼밴드 내장형 안테나 (Dualband Internal Antenna for GPS/PCS Handset)

  • 본 논문에서는 GPS/PCS 단말기에 적합한 두 가지 형태의 듀얼밴드 내장형 안테나를 제안하였다. 먼저 기생 다이폴이 포함된 모노폴 안테나는 단말기 기판에 직접 인쇄가 가능하도록 설계하였고, 격자형 루프구조의 안테나는 단말기의 내부 공간을 최대한으로 활용하기 위하여 격자형으로 구부러진 형태로 디자인하여 단말기 내부 에 내장이 가능하도록 설계하였다. 제안된 두 가지 형태의 듀얼밴드 내장형 안테나의 대역폭은 정재파비 2:1 기준으로 최소 19.1 % 이상으로 GPS 대역과 PCS 대역을 동시에 만족할 수 있고 전 대역에서 -0.4 ㏈i~3.33 ㏈i의 만족할만한 이득을 얻었으며 방사패턴은 전 방향성에 가까움을 확인하였다.

  • An anatomical head and a multi-layered spherical head with a half-wave handset antenna have been analysed and compared using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) and the Eigenfuntion Expansion Method (EEM), respectively. The analysis shows that results from a simple spherical head with a half-wave antenna can be used to predict the main antenna radiation patters as well as estimates of the peak SAR in a handset user's head. Various representative design data are presented using a six-layered spherical head with a half-wave antenna at 900 MHz

Compact Planar Antenna for Mobile Handset Applications

  • In this paper, we describe the procedure of simulation design and measured results of a compact planar antenna for handset applications. The broad bandwidth covering the interested frequency band for mobile handset is achieved by introduction of an open ended L-shaped slot which is newly proposed and corresponds to the monopole slot. In order to minimize the impact on circuit part placement, the proposed antenna is placed on the ground plane edge of PCB with size of 60×65 mm2. The measurement result for 10dB impedance bandwidths is 640 MHz (1.7~2.34 GHz), covering the required bandwidths for DCS (Digital Cellular System)-1800 (1710 ~ 1880 MHz) / IMT (International Mobile Telecommunication)-2000 (1885 ~ 2200 MHz) bands. In particular, we would like to emphasize the proposed antenna has an omnidirectional radiation pattern suitable for commercial wireless communication.
