A number of trend test methods, i.e., Military Handbook test and Laplace test etc., have been applied to investigate recurrent failures trend in repairable systems. Existing methods provide information about only existence of trend in the system. In this paper, we propose a new change-point test based on the Schwarz Information Criterion(SIC). The change-point approach is more informative than other trend test methods in that it provides the number of change-points and the location of change-points if it exists, as well as the existence of change-point for recurrent failures. The change-point test is applied to nine 300MW generating units operated in East China. We confirm that the change-point test has a potential for establishing optimal preventive maintenance policy by detecting change-point of failure rate.

지난 호에 이어 해설란을 통하여 비파괴검사(非破壞檢査) 기술(技術)에 대한 연재를 계속한다. 특정한 비파괴검사(非破壞檢査)의 전문가가 아니더라도 쉽게 이해할 수 있도록 가급적 수식은 배제하고 기초적인 이론을 소개할 것이며 특히 현장 적용에 중점을 두어 기술(技術)하고자 한다. 본 원고에서는 원거리 와전류탐상법(渦電流探傷法(remote field eddy current testing) 이나 펄스 와전류탐상법(渦電流探傷法(pulsed eddy current testing)과 같은 특수 와전류(渦電流) 기술(技術)은 제외하였으며 본 연구실에서 내부 교육용으로 사용하는 "와전류탐상법(渦電流探傷法) Level I 과정"과 미국금속학회에서 발행한 Metal Handbook, 9th ed., Vol. 17, "Nondestructive Evaluation and Quality Control" 및 기타 관련 기술 자료들을 참고하였으나 일일이 명기하지는 않는다.

In this paper, the human error contributions to the system unavailability are calculated and compared to the mechanical failure contributions. The system unavailability is a probability that a system is in the failed state at time t, given that it was the normal state at time zero. It is a function of human errors committed during maintenance and tests, component failure rates, surveillance test intervals, and allowed outage time. The THERP (Technique for Human Error Rate Prediction), generally called "HRA handbook", is used here for evaluating human error rates. This method treats the operator as one of the system components, and human reliability is assessed in the same manner as that of components. Based on the calculation results, the human error contribution to the system unavailability is shown to be more important than the mechanical failure contribution in the example system. It is also demonstrated that this method is very flexible in that it can be applied to any hazardous facilities, such as gas valve stations and chemical process plants.ss plants.

It is known that about 15 to 40 percent of total design time is spent on retrieving information such as standard parts handbook data, engineering equations, previous designs. This paper describes a knowledge management system for machine tool design. Product structuring, change management, and complex design knowledge management are possible through the developed system. The system can speed up the design process by making necessary data instantly available as it is needed and keeping track of all the relevant design information and knowledge including individual decisions, design intentions, documents, and drawings.

The intermetallic compound $Ni_3Al$ causes a peritectic reaction at the composition and temperature very close to the eutectic reaction in Ni-Al system. Although the phase diagram accepted for this system by ASM Handbook has the eutectic forming between the $\gamma$ and $\gamma$ phases, directional solidification study has shown that the eutectic occurs between $\beta$ and $\gamma$. This work examines the liquidus region using quenched, directional solidification experiments that preserve the microstructrues formed at the solidification front. It is also shown that under certain composition and growth conditions a metastable eutectic between the $\beta$ and $\gamma$ phases forms in this system. Finding of the metastable eutectic provided an important information to understand the phase equilibria near the $Ni_3Al$ composition.

This paper presents a machining parameter selection approach using an evolutionary computation (EC). In order to perform a successful material cutting process, the engineer is to select suitable machining parameters. Until now, it has been mostly done by the handbook look-up or solving optimization equations which is inconvenient when not in handy. The main thrust of the paper is to provide a handy machining parameter selection approach. The EC is applied to rapidly find optimal machining parameters for the user\\`s specific machining conditions. The EC is basically a combination of genetic a1gorithm and microcanonical stochastic simulated annealing method. The approach is described in detail with an application example. The paper concludes with a discussion on the potential of the proposed approach.

We investigate the groundwater distribution and chemical characteristics for 3 or 5 districts every year and make the hydrogeologic map on a scale of 1:50,000. We draw the hydrogeologic digital map based on "The Handbook for the Drawing and Management of Hydrogeologic Map" which was published by MOCT and KOWACO in 1998. But, the Stiff diagram and well's notation are difficult to be presented in the digital map using the commercial Arcview GIS tools. So we develop the script file with Avenue language to represent them in Arcview GIS tool. At first, we design the database for the chemical analysis result of groundwater and well identification, and make the program code with Avenue language to display them on the digital map. And next we test the usefulness of the program code. As a result, we find that the script file is very useful for drawing the symbols and diagrams in hydrogeologic digital map using ArcView GIS.

In an attempt to optimize friction spot joining process of Mg alloys, effects of joining parameters such as rotating speed, plunging depth, and dwelling time on the joints properties were evaluated. Experimental tests were carried out for lap joined AZ31B-H24 sheets. A wide range of joining conditions could be applied to join Mg alloys without defects in the weld zone except for certain welding conditions with an insufficient heat input. The microstructures and hardness variations in the weld regions are discussed. For sound joints without defects, tensile shear strength of weld joints was higher approximately 116% than typical tensile shear strength of electrical resistance spot-welded joints for magnesium(Welding handbook, Vol 3, AWS).

박정훈 이사장, NFPA 세계안전컨퍼런스 참가 박정훈 이사장은 미국방화협회(NFPA) 제임스 M, 셰넌(James M. Shannon) 회장의 초청으로 6월 6일부터 미국 네바다주 라스베가스에서 개최하는 "NFPA 세계안전컨퍼런스"에 참가하였다. 6일부터 10일까지 5일간 열린 이번 행사는 '고정식 터널화재진압 시스템에 관한 심포지엄' 등과 140개의 교육 세션이 열렸으며,200개 이상의 화재안전관련 업체가 참여하는 전시회도 개최되는 등 세계적으로 귄위있는 국제방화안전행사이다. 박정훈 이사장은 NFPA 행사에 참석한 후, 미국소방기술사회 (SFPE) 샘 도너웨이(Sam Dannaway) 회장과 만나 SFPE에서 발간한 "SFPE 방화공학핸드북(SFPF HANDBOOK of Protection Engineering)"의 한국어판에 대한 "인가 배포 협약"의 서명식을 가졌으며, 이 협약 체결에 따라 한국화재보험협회는 올해 안에 "SFPF 방화공학핸드북"의 한국어판을 발간하게 된다. 외국 기업의 국내 진출이 가속화됨에 따라 선진 방재기준의 신속한 도입이 절실히 요청되고 있는 시점에서 성사된 히번 협약으로 "SFPF 방화공학핸드북"을 한국어판으로 발간함에 따라, 방재업계는 물론 기업의 안전관리 등 국가방재기술의 이론을 체계화하는 데 크게 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
