In order to properly manage the river water use, it is necessary to collect reliable data of river water use. However, It is not easy to get credible river water use data in Korea because there are some difficultites in reporting and measuring river water use data. Thus, Han River Flood Control Office has installed and operated measuring facility using V-ADCP on the EOUBO intake open channel in the Gosan-Bongdong station section of the Mankyung river, where the use of agricultural water is large. In this study, the applicability of the V-ADCP velocity profile method was evaluated for real-time river water use. For this reason, the parameter sensitivity of Chiu's 2D velocity distribution equation was analyzed and the optimal parameters based on actual discharge data were calculated. In addition, the characteristics of the velocity profile method were analyzed by comparative evaluation of the rating curve method and the index velocity method.
In recent years, an increment of river engineering activities and more intensive use of flood plain, the river geomorphology has attracted considerable attention owing to an extensive land reclamation. One of the important problems is the maintenance of river meanders and almost all natural rivers exhibit the tendency to be a meander. A statistical analysis is applied to typifying their shapes and the meander characteristics are analyzed by channel model of line generalization algorithm in this study. This method is applied to Han River System. The results show that the variance of curvature is a better index to describe the meander intensity and the kurtosis is a good index to characterize the total lengh of the straight sections for a given reach. The channel model of line generalization algorithm gives good results in analysis of meander characteristics.

An emergy concept was used to evaluate the environment and economy of the estuarine areas of Yeongsan River, Seomjin River, and Han River in Korea. The emergy evaluations clearly showed ecological and socioeconomic characteristics of the estuarine areas that act as ecological and economic centers of surrounding areas. River, tide, and rain provided most of the renewable emergy inputs to the estuarine areas with their contribution to the total emergy input less than 8%. The estuarine areas mostly relied for their operation on the purchased emergy which accounted for $92{\sim}98%$ of the total emergy input to the systems. Emergy indices such as emergy use per unit area, population carrying capacity, environmental loading ratio, and emergy sustainability index revealed that the estuarine areas of Yeongsan River, Seomjin River, and Han River are not sustainable at the current level of economic activities in the areas. The ecological economic values of the environment of the areas were in the range of $7.29{\sim}22.06$ million Em\/ha/yr. They are more than twice that for the whole country, indicating the ecological and economic importance of the eatuarine areas. It is, therefore, urgent to establish and implement estuarine management policies to protect and restore the ecological and economic potentials of the estuarine areas of Yeongsan River, Seomjin River, and Han River. Management plans for the estuarine areas should include both demand-side measures such as reduction of population and economic concentration and consideration of ecological carrying capacity in planning stages for utilization and development of the areas, and supply-side ones such as restoration of degraded ecosystems and construction of new productive ecosystems.
Using the cytb gene region of the mitochondrial DNA of eight populations of Sarcocheilichthys nigripinnis morii and five populations of S. variegatus wakiyae, which belong to the genus Sarcocheilichthys from Korea, the genetic diversity and molecular phylogenetic relationships of each population were examined. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the S. variegatus wakiyae population had higher genetic diversity than the S. nigripinnis morii population. In the phylogenetic tree of genus Sarcocheilichthys fish in Korea based on the cytb gene, the Yeongsan River (YSR) population of S. variegatus wakiyae forms a clade with the Tamjin River (TJR), Yeongsan River (YSR), and Seomjin River (SJR) population of S. nigripinnis morii, and genetic relationships that do not align with the current classification system were observed. Meanwhile, on the nuclear DNA phylogenetic tree, S. variegatus wakiyae and S. nigripinnis morii could be clearly distinguished, showing mitonuclear inconsistency where mitochondrial and nuclear DNA conflicted on the phylogenetic tree. The Seomjin River (SJR) population of S. nigripinnis morii was translocated to the Dongjin River (DJR) population, haplotype from which crossbreeding was presumed to have occurred was confirmed. Among the rivers flowing into the East Sea, the S. nigripinnis morii population is known to have been introduced and inhabit only the Hyeongsan River (HSR), and it is presumed to be a population formed by translocation from the Han River (HR) population, with a haplotype representing a unique genetic group also confirmed. The Han River (HR), Geum River (GR), and Mangyeong River (MGR) populations of S. nigripinnis morii formed a genetically identical population with S. czerskii and S. soldatovi distributed north of the Yalu River, and accordingly, a taxonomic reexamination was required through morphological and molecular phylogenetic studies by securing various specimens.

In the study, the water quality of the Imjin River basin with pollutants of changing characteristics it was determined through statistical analysis, correlation analysis, principle component and factor analysis, and cluster analysis. Among all analyzed data points, the average water quality concentration at the Sincheon 3 site shows high levels of BOD 13.4 mg/L, COD 19.9 mg/L, T-N 11.145 mg/L, T-P 0.336 mg/L, TOC 14.2 mg/L, indicating that Sincheon basin requires intersive water quality management out of the entire drainage basin. The correlational analysis of comprehensive water quality data shows statistically significant correlation between COD, TOC, BOD, T-N water quality factors, as well as finding of high correlation between organic and nutrients. The principal component analysis show that 2 main components being extracted at 81.221% from the measuring station's entire data, while seasonal data show 3 main components being extracted at 96.241%. Factor analysis of the entire data set and the seasonal data identify BOD, COD, T-N, T-P, TOC as the common factors influencing water quality. The spatial and temporal cluster analysis showed 4 groups and 3 groups, respectively, according to seasonal characteristics and land use. By analysing the water quality factors for the Imjin River basins over an 8 year period, with consideration to the spatial and temporal characteristics, this study will become the fundamental analytic data that will help understand the future changes of water quality in the Imjin River basin.
This study area that is big Lake by Pauldang-Dam on 1973 that is together North Han-River, South Han-River, and GyaungAn-River. So, Lake flow slow, have many deposit-silt, sand, Pebble etc. Large Land is submerge. in result, Lacustrin wetland became. Water sources are precipitation, river, aquifer. But this wetland is made by dam's water control plan.

The application of the Log-Pearson Type m distribution recommended by Water Resources Council, U. S. A. for flood frequency analysis requires the estimation of the regionalized skew coefficient. In this study, regionalized skew coefficients are estimated using a weighted regression model which relates at-site skews based on logarithms of observed annual flood peak series to both basin characteristics and precipitation data in the Han river and the Nakdong river basin. The model is developed with weighted least squares method in which the weights are determined by separating residual variance into that due to model error and due to sampling error. As the result of analysis, regionalized skews are estimated as - 0.732 and - 0.575 in the Han river and the Nakdong river basin, respectively.
This study was conducted to investigate the main cause of water quality deterioration during the spring season in the transition zone between the South Han River and the river-reservoir Paldang. A water quality model modified from QUAL2E (U.S.EPA) was used, and the model showed that eutrophication and algal production in the low flow season affected about 60% of the organic pollution at the downstream of the South Han River. This result means that phosphorus control is prior to external organic material management to ameliorate the deterioration of water quality in the water body.

Runoff at any given location along a stream can be expressed as a function of its upstream area. The runoff-drainage area relationship can be well expressed as power-law (Brush, 1961) with its exponent, ranging as high as unity (e.g., Stall and Fok, 1968) and as low as 0.5 in natural rivers. Here, we study the runoff-drainage area relationships for Han River and Nakdong River, Korea. We find that the relationships follow power-law and their exponents are highly related with occurrence frequency of flow. To support this, we analyze flow frequency with historical data measured over decades. Findings in this study can broaden our understanding on mechanisms behind the catchment response to runoff.
