  • Proper cooling of PEM fuel cell stack is essential for the high-performance operation of fuel cell system. Insufficient cooling of the stack can cause significant damage to components due to overheating and also can decrease cell performance by dehydration of the polymer electrolyte. In the present study, we performed a computational analysis to assess the condition of the cooling system to secure the proper temperature in fuel cell stack system for high altitude long endurance (HALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

  • Myelochroa (Asahina) Elix & Hale is a common foliose lichen genus found on the Korean Peninsula. Since it was first recorded nearly two decades ago, no detailed taxonomic or revisionary study of the genus has been conducted. Thus, the current study was conducted to carry out a detailed taxonomic and revisionary study of Myelochroa in South Korea. This study was based on specimens deposited in the Korean Lichen Research Institute (KoLRI). Detailed taxonomic studies and a literature review confirmed the presence of twelve species of Myelochroa from S. Korea, including one new record, Myelochroa xantholepis (Mont. & Bosch) Elix & Hale. Descriptions of each species with their morphological, anatomical and chemical characters together with a key to all known Myelochroa species are presented.

  • Observations of the J=1-0 transition line of HCN were made at the center of Comet C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp) from November, 1996 to April, 1997 with the 14-m radio telescope at the TRAO (Taeduk Radio Astronomical Observatory). From the obtained data, an HCN production rate at each observed date was derived. The rapid variation of the HCN production rate near the perihelion was detected, and it is thought to be caused by jet(s) from the nucleus. The correlation between the visual magnitude and the HCN production rate is found to be $Q_{HCN}=27.03-0.11(m_v-5log{\Delta})$.

  • The purpose of Computer Aided Design is to design good products as quickly as possible. To do this, it is important to reuse the old designs and build on them. Most engineering designers, therefore. hale studied methods for reusing old designs, and the results of their study hale been applied to new designs Unfortunately, this only involves reuse of geometric data without design knowledge. If they can design products with the geometric data, including design knowledge, of the old designed and share them through the Internet, design efficiency will be improved. In other words, one way to improve designer's productivity is to share design information that includes knowledge and scattered data across design offices. This paper introduces a shared design environment with distributed knowledge-base. A product design environment based on distributed knowledge-base is proposed, which integrates the CORBA, OLE and WWW as the network architecture, a 3D CAD system, and an expert system shell. A design example of the lens barrel of a projection television is implemented to verify the idea.

  • A multi-stage turbocharger system has been constructed for HALE UAV internal combustion engine. To boost rarefied intake air up to sea level condition, the turbocharger system should consist of 3 stages including heat exchanger located after compressor outlet to drop compressed air temperature. One dimensional system analysis has been conducted by matching required power between compressor and turbine and adequate turbochargers have been searched for from commercially available models targeting for automobiles. By applying commercial automobile turbochargers to the multi-stage turbocharger system, it is expected that considerable amount of research resources will be saved.
