Study of Al2O3/ZrO2 (5 nm/20nm) Nanolaminate Composite

  • A nanolaminate consisting of alternate layers of aluminium oxide ($Al_2O_3$) (5 nm) and zirconium oxide ($ZrO_2$) (20 nm) was deposited at an optimized oxygen partial pressure of $3{\times}10^{-2}$ mbar by pulsed laser deposition. The nanolaminate film was analysed using high temperature X-ray diffraction (HTXRD) to study phase transition and thermal expansion behaviour. The surface morphology was investigated using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM). High temperature X-ray diffraction indicated the crystallization temperature of tetragonal zirconia in the $Al_2O_3/ZrO_2$ multilayer-film was 873 K. The mean linear thermal expansion coefficient of tetragonal $ZrO_2$ was $4.7{\times}10^{-6}\;K^{-1}$ along a axis, while it was $13.68{\times}10^{-6}\;K{-1}$ along c axis in the temperature range 873-1373 K. The alumina was in amorphous nature. The FESEM studies showed the formation of uniform crystallites of zirconia with dense surface.

  • Titanium powder prepared by dehydrogenating the titanium hydride which is synthesized by reacting Ti-sponge (99.67%) with hydrogen using the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis method. In the synthesis of titanium hydride, the particle size of the product was found dependent on the amount of hydrogen incorporated into the titanium such that the particle size of titanium hydride decreased with increasing hydrogen pressure and after-burn time. In the dehydrogenation process, as the dehydrogenation time increase, the particle size of titanium powder increased due to partial melting and sintering of titanium particles.

Characterization of a LSCF/GDC Cathode Composite in Solid Oxide Fuel Cells Using Impedance Spectroscopy

  • A composite cathode of LSCF$(La_{0.6}Sr_{0.4}Co_{0.2}Fe_{0.8}O_3)\;and\;GDC\; (Gd_2O_3-doped\;CeO_2:Ce_{0.9}Gd_{0.1}O_{1.95_})$ was characterized in terms of an electrode response, using a point contact in an Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia (YSZ) electrolyte incorporated into AC two-point impedance spectroscopy. The point-contacted configuration amplifies the responses occurring near the YSZ/cathode interface through the aligned point contact on the planar LSCF/GDC electrode. The point contact interface increases the bulk resistance allowing the estimation of the point contact geometry and resolving the electrode-related responses. The resultant impedance spectra are analyzed through an equivalent circuit model constructed by resistors and constant phase elements. The bulk responses can be resolved from the electrode-related portions in terms of spreading resistance. The electrode-related polarizations are measured in terms of temperature and oxygen partial pressure. The modified impedance spectroscopy is discussed in terms of methodology and analytical aspects, toward resolving the electrode-polarization issues in solid oxide fuel cells.

  • TiAlN thin films were prepared by a multi target r.f magnetron sputtering system under different conditions. We have investigated the resistivity and T.C.R. (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) characteristics of TiAlN films deposited on $Al_2O_3$ and glass substrates by sputtering in an $Ar:N_2$ gas mixture. We used Al and Ti metal as Target Material and $Ar:N_2$ gas as working gas. We varied the partial pressure ratio of $N_2/Ar$ from 0.2/7 to 1.0/6.2 (SCCM). And the R.F power of Ti and Al Target also were varied as 160/240, 200/200 and 240/160(W). In this experiment, we can get the precision thin film resistor with a very low T.C.R. (Temperature Coefficient of Resistance) below 25 ppm ${\Omega}/^{\circ}C$.

  • In this paper, high Xe(Ne+Xe 10%, 20%, 30%) AC-PDP's discharge characteristics according to aging time were studied. The static margin, Vt close curve, discharge time lag was measured for experiments. According to increase of Xe partial pressure, the static margin and luminance was increased. As the result of analysis for misfiring probability, the misfiring is frequently occurred in accordance with increasing of aging time. To improve misfiring, we proposed 3Reset waveform and achieved misfiring probability which was improved.

  • A lot of efforts have been paid to develop infrared imaging systems in last decades. Bolometer has a wide range of applications from military to commercial, such as military night vision, medical imaging system and so on. Bolometer is a resistive sensor that detects temperature changes through resistance change. To improve detecting ability, bolometer should have a good resistive film which has high temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) value. Colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) $L_{1-x}A_xMnO_3$ (where L and A are trivalent rare-earth ions and divalent alkaline earth ions, respectively.) are received attention to apply bolometer resistive film because it has a high TCR property which was discovered in the metal to semiconductor phase transition temperature region. In this work, CMR films were deposited on various substrates in relative low substrate temperature by RF magnetron sputtering. The influence of deposition parameters such as substrate temperature, gas partial pressure, and so on have been studied. The structural and TCR properties of the films were also investigated for applying to microbolometer.

  • GdBCO coated conductor have been fabricated using reactive co-evaporation. The batch type co-deposition system was specially designed and was named EDDC (evaporation using drum in dual chamber) that is possible to deposit superconducting layer with optimum composition ratio of materials at temperature over $700^{\circ}C$ and several mTorr of oxygen. The IBAD-MgO substrate with the architecture of LaMnO3(LMO)/IBAD-MgO/Hastelloy was used for coated conductor. In this study, GdBCO superconducting layer was deposited on IBAD-MgO substrate at optimal oxygen partial pressure (pO2) and deposition temperature. After fabrication of GdBCO coated conductor, critical current density was measured by 4-probe method. Surface morphology and texture of GdBCO coated conductors were analyzed by the SEM and XRD, respectively.

  • High temperature superconducting coated conductor has multi-layer structure of protecting layer/superconducting layer/buffer layer/metallic substrate. The buffer layer consists of multi layer, and the architecture most widely used in RABiTS approach is $CeO_2$(cap layer)/YSZ(diffusion barrier layer)/$CeO_2$(seed layer). Multi-buffer layer deposition required many times and process. Therefore single buffer layer deposition study reduce 2G HTS manufacture efforts. Evaporation technique for single buffer deposition method is used for the $CeO_2$ layer. $CeO_2$ single buffer film could be achieved in the chamber. Detailed deposition conditions (temperature and partial gas pressure of deposition) were investigated for the rapid growth of high quality $CeO_2$ single buffer film.

  • A 49-year-old male was found unconscious at his accommodation and visited the emergency room. He was on antipsychotic and antidepressant drugs (vortioxetine hydrobromide, mirtazapine, sertraline hydrochloride, quetiapine, and alprazolam) for schizophrenia and major depression. At the time of discovery there were signs of overdose of the drugs around the patient. A physical examination revealed, pain, pallor, and edema in the left buttocks and lateral thigh. Active ankle movements below the left ankle were not possible and sensations in the tibia and peroneal nerves were lost. The pressure in the buttock compartment was measured at 42 mmHg. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed edema and high intensity signals in the left hip muscles and surrounding soft tissue. An emergency fasciotomy was performed and partial restoration of the lower extremity sensation and muscle strength were achieved after 24 hours.

  • 일반적으로 AC PDP는 Xe+Ne이 동작가스로 사용된다. 본 연구에서는 Xe 분압을 50, 60, 80, 100 Torr로 고정한 상태에서 전체 가스압력을 변화시키고 Short 방전 갭으로 $80{\mu}m$를, Long 방전 갭으로 $180{\mu}m$ 적용함으로써 나타나는 AC-PDP의 방전특성을 분석하였다. 여기에 Xe 분압을 Short 방전 갭에서는 80, 100 Torr로, Long 방전 갭에서는 50, 60, 80 Torr로 각각 고정하고, Ne 압력을 변화시킴에 따라 나타나는 방전개시전압, 소비전력, 휘도, 발광효율을 측정하여 높은 휘도와 효율을 가지면서 방전개시전압을 최대한 낮출 수 있는 적정 조합을 연구하였다. 실험결과, Short 방전 갭 패널은 소비전력이 26% 낮았고, Long 방전 갭 패널은 휘도가 45% 높았다. 휘도, 소비전력 등 여러 가지 측면을 고려하였을 때, 방전개시전압이 가장 낮은 Short 방전 갭, Xe 절대분압 80 Torr, Xe 35%(Xe+Ne=286 Torr)에서의 방전 특성이 가장 우수하였다.
