  • Lots of needs are being paid for how to design HVAC system in large-scale buildings. Increasing awareness of energy use is main point of this research. HVAC systems' energy characteristics are not clearly identified and understood, so the optimal design of HVAC system is very important. The energy parameters of HVAC design that are system input energy, water/air moving equipments (pumps/fans) energy and outdoor air conditioning energy for IAQ are important. The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data for energy conservational HVAC design strategies.

  • The building HVAC systems have very different qualities of performance and durability with the superintendent's ability for management and maintenance. The poor management of these systems finally lead to the shortening of the life expectancy and result in the increase of operating costs and energy consumptions due to low efficiencies. This study presents an example of appropriate use of the LCC(Life Cycle Cost) analysis in a process of maintaining and repairing old HVAC equipments, by demonstrating the difference of optimal economic life, decrease of running cost, and energy consumption according to the management level of the HVAC equipments. But there are no reliable life expectancy and performance history data at present for optimal management of various building service equipments. Therefore, it is necessary to construct long-term database on operation results of them for more accurate and optimized LCC analysis.

  • HVAC&R systems account for more than 50% of the energy consumption of buildings. The purpose of this study is to propose an optimal design method for the HVAC&R system and to examine the possibility for the energy conservation of a selected system. The energy demand for cooling and heating is determined by using TRNSYS and HEET. By an interaction between total system efficiency and cooling-to-heating load ratio, the optimal HVAC&R systems will be decided. The results showed that this proposed method is significantly capable of determining optimal system and building design for saving energy.

  • Although the importance of good conservation of historic sites including ancient royal tombs is well aware, still not much attention has been paid for the facilities and systems to preserve those historic sites, which includes precious artifacts as wall paints and carved works, etc. Even the level of general understanding about the environment of the underground space of tombs is not satisfactory. In Korea, researchers have recently begun addressing the importance of maintaining proper environment for underground space as of ancient tombs and are making efforts to develop suitable HVAC(heating, ventilating and air-conditioning) systems for them. In this study, an HVAC system for a tomb ($D{\times}W{\times}H=1.3m{\times}3.0m{\times}1.2m$) was installed to maintain suitable indoor conditions for conservation of tomb. The temperature and humidity inside the tomb were measured to represent the performance of the installed duct-type HVAC system. Vibration levels due to the installed an HVAC system are alive investigated experimentally. According to the measured data, the level of vibration inside the present model tomb with the duct-type unit showed significantly lower values than the case with the indoor unit inside.

  • The global decrease in traditional energy resources has prompted increasing energy demand, necessitating efforts to replace and optimize energy sources. This study focuses on enhancing energy efficiency in manufacturing plants, known for their high energy consumption. Through simulations and analyses, the study proposes a temperature-based control system for HVAC (Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning) operations, utilizing machine learning algorithms to predict and optimize factory temperatures. The results indicate that this approach, particularly the prediction-based free cooling algorithm, can achieve over 10% energy savings compared to existing systems. This paper presents that implementing an efficient HVAC control system can significantly reduce overall factory energy consumption, with plans to apply it to real factories in the future.

  • The optimized HVAC system design in tall buildings enable owners to save unnecessary energy consumption and residents to have comfort environments. The purpose of this study is to develop design process for optimized HVAC system design in tall buildings. As basic researches, literature researches and case studies of HVAC system design in tall buildings were performed. Survey was processed among expert in the field and key considerations on HVAC system design were drew as conclusions. With these conclusions, studies were performed on effects of wind velocity, outdoor air temperature, and solar radiation that are main factors of load calculation in tall buildings. Finally, air-tightness and stack effect were analyzed and estimated by literature studies, field measurements and computer simulations.

  • This paper studies an automation problem of a heating, a ventilating, and an air conditioning (HVAC) for the development of smart space. The HVAC system is described by the fuzzy system for the stability analysis and the controller design. The linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) conditions are derived for the stabilization problem of the closed-loop system under the analog control. Also, it is required to digitally redesign the pre-designed the analog HVAC control system in order to accomplish the remote control via web. It is shown the this digital redesign problem can be converted to the convex optimization problem with the LMI constraints. An example is provided to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • The building HVAC systems generally have very different qualities of performance and durability with the superintendent's interest in or capability of management and maintenance of them. The poor management of these systems finally lead to the shortening of the life expectancy and result in the increase of operating cost and energy consumption due to their low efficiencies. So it is necessary to develop tools to maintain adequately and to operate efficiently various building service equipments in order to cope with actively the global environment problems and energy crises. In this study the LCC based calculation program and package were developed, which could be used for analyses of the economic performance and determination of the reasonable maintenance time and methods of building HVAC systems.

  • Heating, Ventilation and hir Conditioning (HVAC) system in nuclear facility should be equipped and constructed more stable and allowable than that in common facility. The purpose of HVAC system is the maintenance of optimum working environment, the protection of worker against a contaminated air and the prevention of atmospheric contamination due to a outward ventilation, etc.. The basic scheme of a safety operation of nuclear facility is to prevent the atmospheric contamination even in low level. The adaptability of HVAC system should be taken into account in the design stage so that it is possible to modify the system which is in operation. In this study, the design requirements of HVAC system in nuclear facility and the HVAC systems in foreign countries are reviewed, and the results can be utilized in the design of HVAC system in nuclear facility.
